So i just finished dragon age which blew my mind away and had me captive for a few months, really awesome game! and now i've been thinking of giving FF a try. I've tried playing these games and really could never get into them, i even own FF10&12 but never got past the first 20 mins of number 12 and 10 felt so bland and boring after about 2-3 hours in. Now the last time i played them was awhile ago so my question is, which final fantasy game would you suggest playing? I'm pretty sure i'll enjoy 13 but instead of buying it i owuld rather just borrow it from a friend once he's done.
-- I was also wondering if i should get Mass effect 2(360 or PC), oblivion and fallout 3 for PC or PS3? Also in general could someone tell me pro's and con's in terms of RPG games for both systems.
Any help appreciated.

Buy oblivion for PC
10 was better than 12, IMO.
Mass Effect 2 is awesome but it feels even less RPG-esque than the first one and mostly like a third person shooter, still a great game.
Oblivion is good if you like a big open world, most people loved it, I hated it because it felt so empty.
Fallout 3, I didn't care for either, again the empty world.
For which system, if you have a good PC, I would suggest all of them to be PC. The graphics on all of these games can go well above what the consoles put out.
You don't play them, really, but Cloud is your avatar? Dude....10 is one of the best, no jokes really. I've been playing FF since 1992 when 2(4 japan) came out for SNES. People will say 7, 7, 7....but all of them that I meet never played any before that. 6, imo, is the best and will always be the best. 7 is good but it's really highly over-rated. if you're going for newer generations try 10 again. give it a few hours. the gameplay is great. when you get to switch toons in battle it makes it a lot more fun. the leveling system is great. the voice-acting is not that good but this is when voice acting started to come into RPGS so it is tolerable. The story line is different which I loved, the graphics still hold their own, there is a lot to do in it also; the mini games are fun. for me i dispised 12 and i am currently playing 13 though, ironically, i'm playing part 8 again more (lol...love the card game). play 10, fuck 12.....10 all the way if it is between the 2. any ?s message me. been a die hard FF since forever.
remember, also, that FFs are JRPGS. The irony is that the new, "cooler" rpgs are better now but they have been around even before FF. Might&Magic/Wizardy + many others are the kind of games that people love now but during the rise of JRPGS people hated them. weird i think...
Funny how our preferences differ, I loved the empty world of Fallout 3 although I didn't feel it's big enough = even emptier. Can't help you Gabby, haven't played any FF either, even though I've been playing a lot of games since the third FF was released. Are we like sinners of gaming?
Waiting on Xsyon & betaing stuff
Well for me FF7 is the better one, the story is amazing, this mix of fantasy and science fiction is really good too. The combat system is the traditionnal turn base. Anyway that would be my choice for a FF game to play if i didnt not already complete the game 6 time.
Personnaly i didnt like oblivion, fallout 3 was good but got bored after some hours of intense gameplay . i didnt t try mass effect 2 and i cant tell you about console since i play almost on PC.
Wow. you asked a lot of questions in that small post. i'm wondering where to begin.
First, my favorite FF game was VI, (III here in the states) the last one before the started trying to compete with other games graphically. VI had one of the best stories (FF tactics had the best), the best characters, and the best villain (sorry Sephiroth fans). It was also the last one released for SNES so i'm not sure if you have access to it or not. Between the ones you have (10 and 12) its hard to call because I wasn't terribly fond of either. (just thought they were both ok) To me VI was the last one that embodied what the entire series was originally about. (Before the started trying to have great graphics, cutscenes, and actiony battle systems)
As far as your other questions....i have no opinion on ME2, as I haven't played it yet. I want to though, I did kind of enjoy the first one. But with Fallout 3 and Oblivion, you definitely want to go with the pc versions. Why? Because of (player made) mods. Mods can add months...no years...to a game. The original NWN captivated me for months on its on. Then I discovered mods. I went on playing that game for easily 2-3 years. So much fun.
My only, real, issue with it. well two actually....are: 1) graphics dont mean anything but man, now...i cant play it because its that bad...i mean very bad.....but you can disregard that one, and 2) playing the previous ones the story is cheesy, cliche, formulatic, and has been done; the main toon/villian also. it was old for me. I can understand that it came out during the peak of rpgs and with the power of the PS1 it helped break out the genre to the world and i'm thankful for that but if you played all of them before it it doesn't do that. I really did enjoy how open-ended it was and the materia system was fun (ff6 still has a better one, and villian). i agree with you on oblivion and fallout 3: just because a game is big doesnt mean its great; all it really means is there is a lot of places to explore...that have nothing.....mass effect is always great but is meant for PCs
Well i cannot agree with you there, i was a big fan of FF before 7, and yes 6 is really great too but for me 7 is the only one who blow me away in fact just to talk about it, i think i will play it again Anyway the 10 is good too but i didnt like the ssphere grid system, im more the traditionnal FF player. for the 12 i have to agree with you,
All I can really say is I COMPLETELY 100% AGREE. For all those wanting a 7 remake, screw that...remake 6 to show them how it's 5x better than 7. I loved how 6 had no main character, how it was open ended, how Kefka was such a badass and had a great laugh, how magicite was fun to combine. The opera house was amazing; the end of the world was amazing. god...i want them to remake this game.....way more than 7....
Yep graphic are out-dated that for sure but you can still upgrade them a litle on pc with a unofficcial patch, not much but still better than the original one. I most admit that it been a long time since i complete FF 6 and i was young tooso maibe if i redo it today i will like it more.
I find 6 graphics way better than 7 lol.....cut scenes are cool and all but man 1) some are too long, 2) i want to have the option to skip them and 3) sephiroths attack....i literally went #2 and came back from the restroom and it was still going...
You should. In fact, I think I'm gonna replay it too. Right now I am replaying Dragon Warrior VII. A lot of people missed out on that one. but that's a topic for another thread
I must agree too a remake of 6 will be really cool. geez i think i will play right now. ehe see you later.
Wow wasn't expecting a reply until next morning haha
Ye i've heard good things about 7 and 6 but the problem is that i don't have the old systems to play those games on, i have a ps2,3 and pc but have access to a 360 and wii as well. Also i don't have to choose between 10 and 12, i just thought i would first play through one of those before buying one more game and letting that rot too.
As for the pc vs console thing, ye main thing seems to be about mods and i really don't have much experience with them but after seeing some amazing things i guess PC does win for me.
As far as cloud as my avatar goes, i dno i just really liked how the pic looked and in general really like the appearance of the character.
Loving the input guys
As someone who grew up playing a lot of JRPG's and every FF until 10, I would say that 7 is my personal favorite. The story is very well done and brings you along as if you are reading a book, the music is great, and the sidestuff is entertaining. There is a good balance of humor intermingled as well. 6 is another good one, whereas the story isn't as tight, but the diverse characters, ships, and little other stuff make up for it. The battlesystem of 6 can be very unique on certain characters. That was the sweet spot era for Square I would say. I dont remember much of the older ones as its been a long time. I remember 8 being mediocre, almost like an ultra-serious version of 7. 9 was more of an attempt to throwback towards the older games if I remember correctly. Personally thought 10 was crap on most accounts, but some people here seem to like it. Final Fantasy Tactics is another great game if you enjoy a tactics-style battlesystem.
Start with 3/6 !! Do 2 after for fun!! and then 7! and then 9! my personal order
Esper learn magic system for 3/6 was great!
Materia for 7 i loved
if you have a PS2 you can play VI. If I remember right it was re-released along with another square game for PS1 (chrono trigger maybe) then all you'd need is a PS1 memory card. backwards compatibility is awesome.
you can play all FF on ps2 and PC and
final fantasy anthology is a comilation of FF V and FF VI for PS 1
You can also play FF 1 to 6 with an snes emulator.

the release you talk is FF Chronicles with FF 4 or and Chrono trigger
There are also FF origin with FF 1 and 2
You can buy FF7 on the PS3 online shop, I'm pretty certain they added 8 as well, there like a few bucks.

Thanks. I used to own the FF origins what. which is how I found out that 2 was my least favorite (well either 2 or 8 can't decide) 4 was decent though, and paired with chrono trigger (amazing game) i may have to go pick that one up.
Alright thanks guys, i'll try finding 6 and 7 in the local games stores and hopefully i enjoy them. Also if i buy it off the ps3 store, how exactly does that work? Does it work exactly like it would if i had the original system or is it even playable since my ps3 isn' t compatible with ps2 or ps1 games (160GB limited edition).
Why stop playing DA:O? Have you gone through all the DLC? The expansion?
DA:O makes the last six final fantasy games seem like low budget indy projects.
Don't even bother with the PS3 version of fallout and Oblivion for some reason 360 runs them better and PC has the mod community.
ME2 plays extremely well on 360.
Depends if you mind sitting in front of the PC for a while playing. I've played Oblivion over 500 hours, ME2 for about 100+ and FO3 goty for about 200+ I would rather my sofa with that type of gameplay value.
Playing: Rift, LotRO
Waiting on: GW2, BP
You download it and it will play on your ps3 or psp if you have one. Doesnt matter which ps3 you have
