They gave us all the expansions for free... and this new server merge..

Im shocked really.  I just came back for the 10 day trial on my account and found that I have all of the expansions unlocked.. for free?  I havnt played this account since 2001 I think.  Anyway, I looked into it and it seems they unlocked expansions for everyone some time last year.  Very cool.

When I logged in I actually found my old toon who was on an archived server.  In case some of you dont know, they made a new server and archived every other cluster/server.  You can log into your toons and move them to the new server for free as well.  Which you should do if you want to return to your old toon as nobody will be on the archived servers.

Its crazy active now.  Guilds recruiting, people everywhere and new players levelling.

I often go back to old MMO's from time to time (eq1, anarchy online etc) but this so far has been the best experience on returning to a game yet.  I also see they updated the graphics since I played last, considerably so (I just wish theyd update the sound effects) as well as the interface and the tutorial seems different.

I forgot how much content was in DAoC.  From the items you find, to the items you can craft.. and dye.  Very cool, I dont see why so many people turned away from it to play all of the homogonized MMO's that are popping up on the market year after year.

So do you just download, patch, and play then?

The missus want to reactivate our accounts (EU players on American server orginally), and I have a tonne of 50s I would like to re-play.

Pretty much as long as your accounts are active.

Is there a busy US server then?

Are the populations pretty balanced?  Last time I played was when the classic servers came out and having 60% of the server playing Hibernia and of those about 90% of them being Vampiirs was not exactly fun :P

This is one of the only mmo's I have never tried. Am thinking about having a look as well. Enjoying Fallen Earth and Bad company 2 atm, but am finding I am missing fantasy a bit. Going to have a look at the trial soon. Are there Eu servers? and if so whats the state of play on them? Is it still active?

There are EU servers that are hosted in Germany.  No clue of the server populations.  The EU servers use a different client, so you will need that:

    eu-accounts.eamythic.com/

And here is other info about the transfer of EU servers back to Mythic's control

I think DAoC is the best MMO ever, but are the servers even slightly populated? I checked on the Mythic site and never see more than a few people on the servers.

It seems that the only server that has few people on it is the pve server.

When I took a look at the game, that server had (at night) about 42 people on it.

Whereas the other servers totaled over 1000.

edit: just checked and at the moment the Ywain cluster has 2619  people playing.

Interesting, I might have to try this game again to see how it's doing. I did love DAoC in it's prime.

AC gave everyone their expansions for free too (and all of it's monthly updates). I hope this becomes a trend in MMOs because as it is I rarely ever buy an expansion which means I miss out on content and then generally quit. But if a game is willing to give that content to it's paying customers, the way it should be, I'm happy to play it and stick around longer.

You must not have checked recently.  Even in the middle of the night, it has over 1000.  During the day, the main server has 2300+ on it.  Starting around 5-6pm eastern it goes over 3000.  Sunday afternoons peak between 3800-4100 players.

Its good to see this game still up and going after all this time.

I am tempted to come back and play again, but I spent around 4.5-5 years or so in DAoC already. My best MMO moments were in DAoC many years ago.

I encourage anyone who has never tried the game to give it a shot, great game and the PvP has been unmatched for all out fun ( IMO of course ).

Gah wish i wasnt so tempted to play it again lol =)

I was wondering if I can get some more information from those who are playing. I played DAOC with a friend ages ago. I am interested in playing again to see whats it like (mainly for RvR reasons). My questions are:

    1. Server Merge? How many servers are there now??

    2. If my character still exists....or if its been "archived" how do I get him back??

    Thanks.

I assume you mean US servers so

Ywain (regular server and most populated.), PvP, Co-Op, Test.  So really just one server but it has a healthy population for play.  The goal seems to be to build up Ywain.

To get to your character, you login to the game (most accounts have 10 days free for comming back).  You click on the archieved server and it will display the old servers.  You login to those servers and your character and then you put in the command to transfer it.  Full instructions are here:

Where do we get the client for those servers btw?

I have tried to log on the EU servers (now hosted by Mythic) when I got some email about free time to try it again but the client I found wasn't working so guess it was the one for US servers. I tried contacting mythic to get some info on that but never really got a response....

really thought EA might do what i proposed to them... once SWTOR is released..

have a duo subscription for both WAR and SWTOR ($28-30 obviously for both per month) and offer UO and Camelot free as part of the package. Sure you're only saving a few dollars per month, but you get 2 MMO's for free... and since most people play more than one now to stop themselves burning out.

Since neither UO or Camelot will have majorily huge content patches or future expansions.. it'd offer the customer 4 MMOs for less than 2...

who'd turn down their nose at that, in order to dominate a market... one must be prepared to put their balls in the frying pan.

I remember the days when that was the population of just the lancelot server (2002-2003) and I played from Europe on US servers back then so I was always off peakimage

I have an itch for a PvP game and WAR doesn't cut it....

I have a couple old 50's that i never got to max master level, i heard that there is an npc to train those master levels while the character is still on the old server? Does anyone have any info on that?

  • JulianDracosJulianDracos Member UncommonPosts: 1,528

You heard wrong.  If you played on the classic cluster, then you can pick up token for the first 5 ML.  It is only on those servers and it is not for all 10 ML.
