So is there still no drug dealing or prostitution, AKA crime for criminals to do?

and I've just had another complety seperate thought...

City of heroes had drug dealing in it!  it wasnt a huge part but it was definatly there and there were hundreds of references to it.  Not drug dealing itself but getting involved with tasks which either had to supporting a drug gang or busting a drug gang.

If you want to see prostitution then you need to look for "adult" games. Ive never seen game holding that rating

Actually GTA IV has prostitution and it has a mature rating. 'Adult' raiting would only be for games that show nudity and explicit sex scenes.

Eurogamer: Are there goals for the more solo, casual player? You don't really have player-versus-environment content at all.

David Jones: We don't as such, we do a little bit for criminals because they can just ram-raid shops, steal stuff, steal cars, sell them, mug pedestrians. For example, a good solo one, if somebody plays the game a lot and they like solo, we have a league for the most damage done in the day. Being in a group's not a benefit for that one.

We even have fashion leagues, which is how many sales you've had on the trading house because you're very creative. And we reward that

This is a bit of a let down, seeing as most crime is somehow tied into drugs. Either being under the influence or trying to get money so you can score something.

The morals are a little subject here. Cop killing, arson, murder, pedestrian hit and runs, car jacking, drug running and other various crimes are ok, but not prostitution and drug dealing?

its not that its about the fun factor...which Im shocked some of you out there havent seen that...

look Sitting ona corner or in a back alley with your female toon or a female NPC waiting for another NPC too come and take you/her is boring..

waiting for another npc to come see you and hand him drugs really quick is dumb. But when you have cop killing, arson, murder, hit and runs, car jacking, these are FUN and action packed

I don't know if it's so much about what players will be able to DO, but rather, what the gameworld feels like, as we run around blasting the crap outta stuff. Will we see drug dealers and prositutes (even if they're just NPCs), for a grittier sort of urban environment, or just thier conspicuous absence, making for for a more implausible and shallow cartoonish environment.

In a gameworld that has such elements, players can at least feel like they're a part of it, if they so choose, even if they aren't actually doing any of the mundane hooking or dealing themselves, exactly.

    When I want a single-player story, I'll play a single-player game. When I play an MMO, I want a massively multiplayer world.

I can't really see the "fun" factor in drug dealing first of who want to stand on the site of the streets for 8 hours a day to sell drugs?

and i can't see the "fun" factor in prostitution either, would you be a pimp daddy then?

  • cosycosy Member UncommonPosts: 3,228

if i am criminal and i dont do bad stuff why police after me ?

i want to whit a gun take ingredients to make drugs then sell said drugs to other players drugs could have a short buff and then a penalty on players

if the war between police and criminals is like red vs blue is just bad

Neocron has a drug runner class in the mobster faction... they're sort of like the Yakuza of the future.  I wonder if APB will have a similar class?

So there is drug dealing; drug running.

As for drugs....if they want this game to be realistic or believable, they need the drugs...I live in Stockton California, this is a pit of gangs and the whole cops and robbers crap...to be honest, almost no gang members actually "pimp", but almost all of them sell drugs.

When I look at vids and pictures from this game, realism is not what strikes me the most.

But drugs or no drugs, it alone does not make or give it more depth. The same economy can be built on weapons manufacturing and sales, forging mony, or whatever. I actually played a game that you could sell drugs, it was called 'Face of Mankind', production and sale was just a nice addition to the game.

I can only hope there will be some depth in the actually planning/solving of the crimes, but do seem more focus on the getting away/ catching phase.

A think a lot of people seem to be missing the point of this issue.

I don't think most of the people pushing for drugs and prostitution want to play drug dealers or pimps, or use the drugs or hire prostitutes. I'm sure plenty do, but I doubt it's most. I think the point is that these things ought to be at least attributed to the criminal groups and acknowledged in-game. Because sex and drugs are the driving forces behind most of the crimes that are in the game.

I seriously doubt that the rating would rise from M to AO by acknowledging that these things are, in fact, illegal, and permitting a criminal character to support them (whether or not they can be in any way 'experienced').

I'm confued. Why is it okay to have assault and shootings but not drug dealing and prostitution? Is it down to the weird morality from the US again? Sex naughty, guns good!

Their are drug related missions from what i can gather.

I thought I'd really heard just about every type of complaint possible about MMORPG's.... until I got to this thread.  I give the OP some credit there.

I honestly don't see where prostitutes played by players would be a great idea, imho.  A game that would essentially ask it's players to cyber one another (or RP sexual acts) without a true age-check system for the players, would be begging for lawsuits.

Drug dealing... meh.  I don't really care too much for it.  Question is... who would buy the drugs?  Who would use them?  Players?  Or NPC's?  Are you imagining becoming some major drug lord, maybe Pablo Escobar?  Could be funny to watch someone work hard to build up an empire like that.  Millions of in-game currency... planes... hired henchmen... huge houses... a 'compound'... And then have it all burned to the ground while they are afk/logged out by someone who decided that it would be funny.... cause it's just a game.

Might as well add the ability to make/use nuke's?

Where did you get that number from?  It's 100.  Which is more than enough random people to play with.

im sorry lets take that out and JUST have drugs and hoes...

    some people lol

Selling drugs and pimping hoes is a crime.  In a game about crime, there should be these aspects.  Stop thinking morally and think virtually.

Crime game.. Needs crime.  Selling drugs - Boost money, power, respect, and gangsta thugin! It would also benefit the cops, busting a large drug ring, cleaning the streets, a.k.a the war against drugs.  This drug and prostitute aspect could be vital to this game if some producers / developers actually wrote out a list of pros and cons.  I'm sure the pros in this case will heavily outweigh the cons.

People are still failing to realize the a video game is FAKE... and parents need to draw a line if they don't want their kids playing certain titles.

The game is a fake because there aren't drugs and prostitutes?  I bet we could all think of 1000 different crimes that aren't going to be in this game too.  It IS about crime.  Just because it doesn't have a certain criminal act that you would like, doesn't mean it is a fake.  It's a game about crime.  In a game, what you do is supposed to be fun.  How is a back-alley drug deal fun to pull off?  Most of them will never be caught.  How is selling yourself to a NPC for sex fun?  Remember, it's a game.  This company has to weigh each idea with whether or not it's going to be fun for the majority of players.  I know if one out of ten people were interested in something, I'd probably have to re-work it or leave it out entirely.  I certainly don't want to be forced to waste my time having virtual sex with another player or a NPC.  Think a little bit.  Your brain can come in handy if you actually use it.

Then again, that's just my opinion.

  • LordRelicLordRelic Member Posts: 281

wow alot of you have no mind for what crime is,, so to you only drugs and selling ass is a crime huh.. you know  murder or  robery and grand theft auto is no longer a crime huh... I supose you want rape and  and tossing babys off of a building to be in there too huh.

  • DAS1337DAS1337 Member UncommonPosts: 2,610

I think adding a drug system to the game would add quite a bit of depth.  I could see where it could range from small $20 transactions in dealer-consumer crimes and you could go all the way up to building coke labs and having large gang to gang transactions in the thousands.. or even millions.  It could add to economy if used as a crafting skill or sorts.  Certain zones could be controlled by certain crews.  Which could result in criminal v criminal activities.  But, that may throw off the balance a little bit, the game is supposed to be faction based.

As far as prostitution goes.  It doesn't seem like it would add to the game in any way.  We already know there won't be any nudity.  So what's the point in pursuing the addition of sexual crimes?  Again, most people are playing the game for fun.  Most people aren't interested in virtual sex.  Go outside and get laid, that's my suggestion.

This is kinda a strange topic. I think adding both in would be a cool thing. It would make this game totally different from other MMO's

As much as we hate to think about it, there are alot of people out there who cyber in MMO's and a Prostitute who was good at it could make alot of in game cash. I think it would be fun if I could pimp my wife out in the game.

But it's one of those taboo things. It is perfectly legal to have sex, but totally illegal to write about it. At the same time it's totally illegal to kill someone, but perfectly legal to write about it. It doesnt make any sense, it's just the way our society is.

In other news, police relieved as crime has been reduced to simply drug deals and prostitution. Commander Johnson was quoted as saying "It's sure going to be a hell of a lot easier catching those drug dealers without all that gun crime! Those bullet proof vests were heavy!"

Bans a perma, but so are sigs in necro posts.

Do you seriouslly need to have low-life crimes such as drug dealing and prostitution in the game? Do you honestly think thoes are the only crimes in this world? If so, you sir, have some serious issues. Not to mention this game appears to be about action oriented crime, such as bank robberies. Its kinda hard to have running shootouts with prostisutes...

Do you really think drug dealing and prostitution are somehow worse than theft, murder, assault & battery, etc etc etc

If anything they are the lesser crimes.

    So retarded...
