Its not a terrible deal, its just a spin on the 30 day free trail, but this time you pay 2.50, and that really depends on some free trails limiting you to areas or level cap of 10, for 2.50 you can go anywhere and level up to full cap. (good going if you can in 30 days LOL)
As for getting into it, thats easy, the starter tutoriul is very good, its actualy very well done, and with the ability to hire a merc to aid you, and bless their little socks they dont start slugging you hard for a fee to you get past certain levels, it makes EQ1 quite soloable even as a warrior...Healer merc FTW.
What bothers me is, can i buy it now, and start my 30 days in may? Because i would love to tak a look at EQ as i never played EQ1, but i'm totally out of free time now - end of the project at work.
Don't for get if you have a previous EQ 1 account with SOE you do not get the 30 days. I never played the game after beta but apparently I did some other trial in the past. . this is considered a previous account I believe.
"30-day subscription included for new accounts only (existing EverQuest and Station Access accounts are not eligible to receive gameplay included with purchase). Afterwards, a Monthly Subscription Fee of $14.99 applies (plus applicable tax)."
Quoted from the offer, and this means it's the full box deal for only $2.50 (ps, you didn't put a dollar sign so i was confused that it was so cheap).
This leads me to the invevitable question, and that is can I buy & then run more than one account from steam at a time? Can I buy 4 boxes for $10, and then play all 4 at once via one account on steam. Or, do I need 4 steam accounts and individually launch each one lol?
Furthermore, is there any OTHER retailer doing such a deal so I don't have to go through steam (if you haven't gathered, I hate steam and their grasp over my collection of games i've purchased over time from them)??

I recently tried EQ1 again for nastalgia's sake. By today's standards EQ1 is very clunky and graphically crude. It's certainly worth a look if you can try it on the cheap. What I discovered is that the starting areas are mostly deserted. I came across veteran players who were grinding alts at all the best leveling spots to quickly get their characters to max level so they can play with their high level friends (Old timers can level an EQ character to max level in a few days).
I spent a few days visiting some of my old haunts--I love Kelethin forest. But nastalgia has a way of making memories about something much better than they actually are, and I stopped playing after a week.

True story, however $2.50 is rather hard to pass up. I'm just depressed that it's wasted on steam (or done intentionally, so you cannot purchase it more than once). >:(

They will charge the $14.99 immediately if you use a previous station account to sign up. It doesn't matter if you haven't subscribed to EQ in the past.
I have asked for a refund or credit of the $14.99 for the first month since I didn't have an EQ account previously. I should have an answer from SOE by tomorrow. If they tell me I should have read the fine print better, I'll ask if my continued patronage is worth giving a $15 credit. Every other company that I know of will give you the 30 days when you purchase a new retail game, regardless if you have done business with them before on a different product.
If $15 is more valuable to them than a customer who has spent quite a bit playing their games, I guess there are a lot of other companies out there that will appreciate my business and lay off the fine print in their billing details a little.

I had to enter my credit card info and they did chargge me the 14.99 but immeadiately gave me a credit for 14.99 so I paid nothing. I think you just have to cancel but only after you jump through a few sony hoops first.
I mean for 2.50, why not? I don't know that I'll stick around after the free 30days yet but I'm having fun.

I've been thinking about buying the $2.50 upgrade for my very old existing SOE account.
I played EQ back in early 2000 through the end of 2001, during it's golding age, until Shadows of Luclin came out. Then, unforutnately, my computer couldn't run EQ anymore, so I was forced to quit. I actually started playing again for a few months in 2005 through the release of Depths of Darkhallow. Unfortunately, these few months didn't last, and I, later, found World of Warcraft, which I have played till now, about 4-5 years.
I loved EQ, and I always wanted to come back, however, it's just too difficult to get up and rolling again. Even in 2005, I felt that too many things (zones, items, quests, etc.) were obsolete. It's just sad to see so many things unused, unseen, untouched. Zones that could be untouched for days, once bustling cities now barren and useless.
Lots of zones don't get touched anymore; lots of items you would work so hard for are no longer worthy of using. I see Everquest as a massive amount of wasted data.
As much as I would like to give EQ a try even just for $2.50 and $14.99 (existing account), I know deep in my mind, it will be just a waste of time. EQ is now only a game for veterans, old existing players that can step in at anytime and go about so easily within the game. They're the ones able to enter each new expansion so easily, raid or hunt in new zones.
I DO NOT recommend EQ for a new player. The true experience that once was is just not there anymore, and I'm sorry to say a new player will probably just end up moving on to newer things.
Everquest was truly an MMORPG, and playing with other people at early levels is a rare occassion. It'll take months to level up and reach playability with the veterans or when the true game experience begins. Until then, it's a Ever-lonely-quest life.
Originally posted by ttomm46 Steam has 15 expansions and 30 days for 2.50...My question is is it worth getting or is Eq too hard to get into at this late date.?
2.50???? WHATADeal!! But here is the problem . The 16th Expansion Underfoot is $35.00 Cha-Ching!

That's basically what its been like for me. Granted I did play about two months on the Combine Server, however when I re-sub for EQII with the All Access Account I'll stop into EQ do some porting around (venture around in a few zones), hang out in PoK to read the Chat then I log out. That pretty much does it for me.
I'm looking forward to Everquest Next.

I am wondering the same thing as there is SO much content now: 1000's of AAs and countless new zones... any servers that still have a lot of players?

Wa min God! Se æx on min heafod is!
You do get 7 days if you reactivate through the EQ1 site.
I don't see why not, SOE as no way of knowing how much you paid for the software or if you bought a boxed version or not.

They couldn't pay me to pay the current version of EQ, it has been ruined over the years.
