Square Enix had updated Final Fantasy XIV Japanese official site yesterday and released the system requirement for FFXIV alpha beta test. The requirement may be adjusted before the launch of Final Fantasy XIV. (source mmosite.com)

pretty high but im good XD
I wonder what the recommended system requirements would look like
Take the Magic: The Gathering 'What Color Are You?' Quiz.
The higher the better IMO. I'm tired of games that aim for what 90% of players can handle TODAY rather than maybe shooting for what most players could handle 6-12 months after launch. I think it extends the life of game simply by not having outdated graphics so fast.
Granted, thats easy for me to say when I got a OC'd i7 and ATi 5850 :P
The devs said in the last famitsu that the alpha and beta testing would be higher in specs then the actual game.
Looks like I make the cut. Yipee!
I'm really hoping that they will make a dx11 patch, it dosent have to happen right away but as long as they implement it would just be a good idea in the high tech we live in these days.
I bought a new video card and changed from XP to Windows 7 from the time I filled my beta application, but I can't find any place where I can update my specs. Am I missing a link somewhere?
Hahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahah.........hahahahahahhahahahahahha.....hahahahhahahahahaha *passes out on the floor*
*several minutes later* ... hahahhahahahahahahahahahahhaha
VANGUARD!
edit: I would also say EQ1 (still a successful MMO from a players perspective since they get constant content updates) even though to say their graphics are outdated would be a bit of an understatement.
Doesn't matter anyways because FFXIV will have scaled graphics, I just hope they are LEARNING A LESSON FROM SIGIL and are going to do a hell of a lot more testing on low/mid level system performance. Exclusive alpha for high end computers isn't really a great sign of this though unfortunately. The saving grace for FFXIV is the amount of technophilia in Japan and the fact that it can be run on a console meaning it will not suffer the same problems that Vanguard had by not catering to such computers, and even if this game has only one NA player I can still have plenty of fun playing with the rest of the world.

I think it's a good thing the spec are high,it's about time devs realised that tec is moving forward not backwards. If you are really serious about PC gaming then you really should have a pc that can take advantage of the new tec, don't be thinking that you can run modern games on low end pc forever.
Take APB, i can tell you that the specs for their beta are higher than these specs and they don't hide the fact that they are making a game that will require you to have a mid to top end PC.

It's interesting, the XP specs aren't high at all.
The RAM requirement on Vista/Win7 looks inflated, but that's all I can see that could trip people up.
And I say this as someone with a 3 year old rig that ticks the boxes (still on XP...I know, the shame!) and then some.
If the beta requirements are higher than release requirements, then they're not really shooting for the moon in terms of the machines they expect people to be running.
I run an I5-750 quad core, 8gigs of ram, 2.6 gigahertz, Windows 7, 750gig HD space, 700w power supply and Nvidia Geforce 240 1gig mem. Looks like I'm more than ok but I'm sure I could find a better vid card to use before release.
i hope that is not the minimum.

Wonder if they are just starting high and going to slowly lower.
lol love the lil monkey.
I think thats what they are doing. Start at the top and work down so they can optimize better and get a clearer picture of what the minimum spec would be for the best look and playability balance.
That way they can make a game that will look great on high end hardware and still be accessible to people running slightly older gear.
There are 3 types of people in the world.
1.) Those who make things happen
2.) Those who watch things happen
3.) And those who wonder "What the %#*& just happened?!"
Those specs are not high anymore. They are a couple years old actually.
I just built my desktop August 2009. It cost somewhere between $1100 and $1200 for everything inlcuding monitor, keyboard, mouse.
GeForce GTX 260 core 216 512?? - I should probably look for this again and remember it this time. Intel Q6600 - not overclocked. 4GB DDR2 memory, 660 GB HD memory, 1k watt PS, ASUS P5Q pro turbo MB, Windows 7 64 bit, Razer lachesis mouse, Saitek Eclipse keyboard, and my monitor is an acer H233H.
Now I could obviously go for an upgrade on what's posted, but I can also run it quite easily. Also since I did this nearly a year ago I am sure prices have dropped by a bit.
Now be my guest the PS3 is a lot cheaper and will be until this game is 8 years old and it's also what the game is being made for, but any real PC gamer is going to have something at least close to this unless they are worse off for cash than I am.
I was kind of hoping for higher requirements to be honest. I'm really hoping these are the minimum requirements but I don't think that they are. I guess it comes with the territory though since a good number of people go 5-10 years without updating their systems. Ah well, the footage looks good graphicly so far so I'm not going to look into it too much.

Fairly certain they are just min specs.
SE stated in one of the many interviews (find them at Eorzeapedia or Core) that they designed the game so in the future if they wanted to make the more demanding and have more advanced features, they wouldn't be a problem. It really sounds like they aren't going to screw over PC users like they did in XI.
Darn, I just bought this laptop around 2 years ago and it only has a 2.0ghz Core 2 Duo. Hopefully I could play this when the final product is released.
Buy a PS3 and play with that. That's the options I am thinking of with a large LCD HDTV. That all written I have known players to get by on really poor systems with very slow internet connections in mmo before, the pain however is something I would prefer not to live through myself.
Yeah, that sounds like a good idea. Afterall, I did play FFXI moslty on PS2, so I think I may be better with the controller instead of the keyboard.
To my surprise... the PS3 has a built-in wireless modem. If you set up a wireless connection in your house... you can play FFXIV on the comfort of your couch with a big screen.
I believe my computer can handle FFXIV on medium to medium-high settings. On days where guildmates/linkshell members want to group it up, I'd like to have ventrilo support to coordinate. On days where I want to relax and do some solo fun, I'll go PS3.
If there is some form of built-in voice chat, with a head set available for the PS3 version, there's no reason to play on the PC, unless you like to overclock and get ultra max settings. I'm more about gameplay rather than graphics at max to enjoy a game.
Also, I'm sure you know, any wireless USB keyboard is compatible with the PS3... so you can chat it up and play with a controller on the PS3.
In terms of first generation graphics, you will see the PS3 and PC be very similar. A year or two into the game, you will see PC's surpassing the PS3 version.
You're better off getting PS3 for two years, which includes blue ray player, and getting an upgraded computer two years down the line.
My 2 cents.
