LF Nice RPG (seingle player) Game to play..

mmorpgmanermmorpgmaner Member UncommonPosts: 241

Hey, I have been playing MMO's for about 6 years now. My latest was darkfall, But i've quit that due to a few reasons, still love that game and it's my favorite, just can't pay to play anymore :(

What I'm now looking for is an RPG. Solo player one, is there any free RPG's anyone can suggest?

Appreciate feedback!

If you've already tried most of the old ones and haven't see torchlight then check it out.  Not challenging or really deep but fun.  Kind of toony graphics.  It feels like a spoof of diablo 3 made by the Fate and some of the diablo guys but it's really a decent hack n slash.

The thing is I havn't played really any single player games (except diablo).

I also am looking for more of a Deep one, as I want one that will take up some time, because I'm not going to be playing to beat it, just casually playing it 2 hours a day or so.

That's why I heard Dragon Age is a good one. and The Witcher, but you have to buy both those and I'm broke :P

Try Baldurs gate, Dragonage, Mass effect. If you go with baldurs gate, I suggest to start from the older ones, this way you can follow the story line between the games.

I am the type of player where I like to do everything and anything from time to time.

Im going to ignore the "free" part and say:

Oblivion, Risen, Dragon Age, Two Worlds (fun but buggy)...

Or if you're sick of the fantasy setting:

    Fallout 3, Mass Effect(s), KOTOR

I'm personally playing through titan quest again, great greek mythology hack n' slasher (clone of diablo)

    Wildstar:
    Phantazm, Pago(PvP), Exiles

    Guild: Socks with Sandals

    Playing: Wildstar
Retired/Tried: DCUO. The Secret World, Darkfall UW, Darkfall, Mortal Online, DDO, Rift, Fallen Earth, Aion, APB, EQ, EQ2, PoTBS, WoW, WAR, SWG, CoX, Vangaurd, CO, GW, EVE, DAoC, LotRO, SW:ToR, GW2, Dragon Nest

If you can't afford a game, then have a look at www.sourceforge.net

There are lot's of open source projects. Well, but don't expect something like Dragon Age.

Another tip would be "Abandonware". All those RPGs that came out during the 80s and 90s (SSI games, Ultima, Lands of Lore, etc.). Some are still great (story wise and from the game concept). But outdated.

Yeah I'd try "Risen" if you want "deep".  It's the best I've had recently.  Really different.  It's hard but worth the trouble.  "Titan Quest" is arguably the best diablo-clone--real clean, lots of content.

So you're saying you can't even afford Oblivion?  A game that you can get for about 20 bucks?  sheesh.  Lazy much.  You want cheap, head over to Impulse.  They got Divine Divinity on sale for 2.49 this weekend.  Try that.  Or the Witcher.  9.99 this weekend, also ony 9.99 on the Atari website.  Or go to www.gog.com, games there cost 5.99-9.99.  [Mod Edit]

If you really got get your Elder Scrolls on, and you really can't be bothered to pay the pittance they cost, then here, first 2 games, free and clear.

I would reccomend The witchet or oblivion. Both solid games though honestly while Oblivion was good its not as good as everyone says it is imo.

I would also say give The Last Remnant a shot. The most irritating (and to some would be gamebreaking) problem with it is load times. Story is good. How "Deep" it is all depends on how deep you want it to be. The combat and ability to learn some really powerfull spells/skills can be easy or really deep and involved its all up to you. Combat is basically you giving unions (groups of your npcs) basic instructions and they follow it. As simple is it sounds it can get really involved. Oh another irritating thing about it is square enix was VERRY lazy with the port and while it supports keyboard and is good on the keyboard the tutorials are all done with the xbox controller in mind. Verry easy to learn the keys though and easy to remember once you do learn them.

Prelude to Darkness is a free one. Check it out here:
    http://www.zero-sum.com/
But the download link doesn't work there cause they were too lazy to update it... :)
Check this thread here http://rpgcodex.net/phpBB/viewtopic.php?t=20563 for a download link. The link that is posted on the 2nd post of that thread, works.
It's nice game but kinda buggy.

Let's try to keep as far away from discussing illegal sources and methods to get games as we possibly can.

    Thanks everyone :)

Just so you know. . Torchlight is on Steam for $5 this week-end.   Iwas not impressed with the toony graphics but the game plays okay.

Oblivion of course will keep you busy even if you can find the core game somewhere cheap.

Oblivion and Fallout are great singleplayer RPGs to play. The mods for the PC versions make it even more of a blast and can add hours of replayability to them, as well. However, the game engine's a hit or miss with most people; to me, it's buggy, stutters quite a bit, and can crash at the most random of times.

But they're still awesome RPGs, nonetheless.

You could always try games like Gothic 3, Risen, Dungeon Siege (more actiony than RPG), or Titan Quest, as stated earlier, if they suit your tastes.
