Hi all, hope you are all having a good day!!!
OK now I have read a lot on these forums about how bad MO is but I am not going to put too much stock in those posts as the game is still in beta plus I am downloading it now so I will make my own decision once I start playing.
I am currently playing WOW and have to say I am enjoying roleplaying on the Argent Dawn server. Say what you like about WOW but you have to admit it is polished, easy to play and is justified holding its spot at the top of the pile. However, I have never felt like I am truelly in a world when playing WOW. It's too cartooney, the cities don't feel like proper cities and well it just doesn't feel like the fantasy world I want to play in anymore.
As I said I love roleplaying and when I saw MO I though this certainly looks to have loads of potential. Here are the type of things I am looking for:
1 - A massive world and I do mean massive, a world you can get totally lost in and still find new places after months of playing.
2 - Proper cities, if a city has a population of 5,000+ then it should look like it does with all the shops and people to go with it.
3 - Seasons, Day, Night, Rain and Wind.
4 - Tons of emotes
5 - An item creator, sort of a built in GHI. (not crafting, a roleplay item creator)
6 - Loads of customisation, the ability to write a detailed description about your own character that others can see.
7 - Guild creator, the ability to choose your guild type (military, thieves, trader etc)
8 - Large roleplay community (obviously will hopefully come with time).
For me the above are very important for a great roleplay experience so what do you guys think??? Does MO have RP potential? Is there going to be a big RP presence?
Please only serious responses don't post just to bad mouth the game if you have a constructive statement than great, if not don't bother posting. Games can only get better if ideas are talked about properly.

What do you mean by a RP item creator? whats that? sounds pretty neat.
If you stand VERY still, and close your eyes, after a minute you can actually FEEL the universe revolving around PvP.
In WOW you can download an addon called GHI that gives you the ability to create any item in game. So Greens, Blues, Scrolls, Books, Potions etc.
You can then trade that item with other people who also have GHI installed. It is great for creating guild rules and stuff cos you can create a scroll write all the guild rules or, commendation, or newspaper whatever and then give it to anyone else who has GHI installed. I think it would be awesome if MO had something like this but part of the official game.
The items don't do anything like improve stats or anything. It is just cool for RP purposes.
reijan thank you for your comments going to give the game ago shortly once downloaded.
Well, if he decides to uninstall, that will depend on many factors including, but not limited to Hard drive speed and type( internal/external, HD/SSD), processor speed, available memory, etc It would be impossible to answer your question without the specifics.
I don't think I can give you a thorough point by point response like reijan, but I will note that some design decisions have been made specifically to encourage roleplaying, sometimes at the expense of making the game less accessable (or more hardcore, less casual... hard to say it in neutral terms. Anyway, some of those design choices.
No global chat. This is probably the decision that impacts accessability the most. This will make it harder to find groups and harder to trade. That may be a pain, but it does push you to interact with the people around you and helps to increase the sense of place If you are in a guild, the guild can invest in the guild stone to get global intraguild chat. If you are trying to meet up with friends, there are also plenty of workarounds (communicating via text message, guild website etc.)
No instant travel Again this can be a pain in the rear with regard to grouping, but it does help to increase the sense of place.
No radar/ overhead map There are (or are supposed to be) player created maps. Again, potentially annoying, but early in beta testing one of the people described the sense of wonder in actually getting lost.
Full loot/ Murderer stat loss system Both of these are not strictly role-playing, but they do help to increase the sense that your actions are consequential.
Where reijan was saying "Let's just say I had a few "encounters" that made me doubt that you would find many like-minded, because everyone is too harcore to role-play (they need to grief, after all)." at least a little of that is because of being in beta testing. Some of the people griefing people in game will be more reluctant to do so when their character is not scheduled for a wipe in a week or so.
As reijan said, the game is in free open beta, give it a whirl. If you enjoy what you see, your presence can only increase the likelihood of a strong RP community. If it's a little to rough around the edges, you can just keep an eye on it after release.
The cities at the moment are pretty big, but empty and very articifical. NPCs are literally just vending machines, standing still in one spot with no dialogue. If you're looking for something like WoW where NPCs are walking around, talking to each other etc then you'll be massively disappointed. Similarly, the buildings are empty with just a few tables and chairs.
There is a day/night cycle but it's currently unfinished so you'll pretty much be bumbling around in the dark until they add moonlight and more external light sources. I think there's supposed to be a weather system in the works and a temperature system but they're not implemented yet.
To be honest, Mortal Online's only appeal right now is roleplaying due to the lack of content and stuff to do for the non-roleplayers. Asides from exploring, anything else is going to have to be added with imagination. That said, there are probably better games out there for roleplaying anyway.
