Why is this site a magnet for surveys?

What's the deal? It seems like ever week, there is someone else posting a survey for their sociology project, master's thesis or some other random BS class and they expect to get some sort of non-biased answer from abunch of forum trolls (not that it's a bad thing **looks at post count**).

But, seriously. What do they think they are getting from these surveys? Everyone of them is probably the least scientific survey I've ever seen. None of them could be writing anything halfway decent for a thesis or anything else. I mean, doesn't posting a survey in a place like this violate like half the rules for surveying in Sociology? Idk, I remember there being something like that in Sociology 101.

well for one most of em are for MMO's.  Considering this is only of the few Forum heavy MMO websites i would say this is the best place to do it.

2nd most people don't feel comfortable talking about gaming or MMO's and this place offers them the chance to answer the questions in an annonymous way.

thirdly any decent student knows ALL survey data is innacurate to a certain degree and that you will never get 100% truthful answers.  That being said most people are happy to provide the information and it is usually fairly truethful.

    MMO wish list:

    -Changeable worlds
    -Solid non level based game
-Sharks with lasers attached to their heads

Well, wouldn't a better solution be to actually go into alot of the games yourself and try to solicite people to take your survey? In some of them, you could even offer ingame incentives. Yeah, it's alot of work.... but if you're not accustomed to alot of work, then why the hell are you trying to get a Masters Degree anyway? Honestly, I don't think it would be very hard at all to hit every English speaking game out there, it may cost a few bucks........ but we go back to what I basically said before, a Masters Degree is alot of work and isn't something that should be handed out lightly (although I know alot of schools do).

I'm immediately skeptical of any survey.

Why?  'Cause nobody gives a rats azz what I think.  Its safe to assume they're selling something.

One man, a small pile of money, and the screwball idea of a DIY Indie MMORPG? Yep, that's him. ~sigh~

First we have some questions for you.

    What is your major?

Why have you chosen this topic in your own personal opinion over other potential topics?

What MMORPG experience do you have? Games played? For how long? Why did you choose the game you played over the other potentials?

What is the conclusion you wish to reach with this paper?

What is your personal opinion on the effects of MMORPG's on teenagers and adults?

Answer mine and I'll be happy to answer yours!

Thanks and welcome to the community!

This is roughly my staple reply for every surveyor. Most polls have an agenda. Find out what it is and if the person even really has any experience in the subject presented and to what end the research intends to pursue or present. If they're asking questions you should feel free to ask your own.
