Guild Wars: BWE Coverage @ Pro-G

Pro-G, a gaming site in the UK just published some nice coverage of the Beta Weekend Event for Guild Wars with some cool screen shots.  A small preview is below:

Guild Wars is a lovely little game. 'Little' figuratively speaking, of course, as the game itself is pretty much hugenormous. Through a mere weekend of play my entire viewpoint of the MMORPG genre has been changed. Whilst I doubt the game is groundbreaking or will change the lives of the more grizzled veterans, for a mere n00b (feeling… of nausea… rising…) like me it was perfect.

Starting out with a pretty small download (broadband-wise), I was soon greeted with my options for creating my character. Now the game is currently in a beta, so is by no means finished - this is the most likely explanation for the lacking customisation options, with only around five or so hairstyles available. All with pony tails of some kind. Nevertheless I soldiered on, choosing my class as a Ranger - nimble, good with bows and able to control wild animals to fight alongside them. Opting to make my chap a tiny sort and giving him a nice red tinge to his hair, he was soon christened: Ianos of Ian. You can feel the imagination pouring out of me right now, can't you?

i love how lots of people hate MMORPGs for the same reasons as he listed in his journal, but yet, when people play guild wars, they seem to relive the MMORPG experience, in an entirely different way.  i enjoyed reading and i hope he had tons of fun!

oh yes the game is beautiful. But I find that there is one major problem with the game design.its a little thing I call target locked on. Once you have selected a character and click on it the I. A. takes over and it will follow the character allover the map. At that point you can select from Magic to weapons to kill the monster/player without ever having to reclick on the character you chose. So has this game become a chat zone with some entertainment in the background. like I said the world that you go through is amazingly beautiful. character handling is smooth. I know this game is still in beta. I have played since the first beta weekend and I have never found any items that I can upgrade weapons armor etc.. I have managed to clock in at least 36 hours per beta weekend so I have gotten a good feel for the game. so I'm wondering if the game designers are going to address this little problem.

Well sry to disagree but the game haz upgrade for weapons and armors .. i myself have a few of them and there not even hard to find ... if u whant to get such upgrades u need to salvage specific items (check gwonline.net) and i have to remaind u that this game isnt based on PVE is based on PVP and team play the game will be released on the 28 of april and it will have around 30 misions and 60 explorable areas . Dunno if uv ever been in a Guild vs Guild battle but its realy amazing all the things that u have to think about jut to be abel to win .... and the best part of the game (at least for me) is that the max lvl u can reach is 20 u can lvl from there on but u whont get to 21 or get any new points to pump ur stats up ... u will get skill points witch will enable u to buy skills .... This game isnt ur usualy hack&slash and i did love the game from the first time iv played it ... iv been playing mmorp's for 4 years now and i have to say this is the first game that doesent reward HARD CORE GAMES ( the sort that always lvl and look for better equpment and such stuff)
it rewards the ones that actualy plan there strategy carefully and think of the best way to make there carracter better and complement for ur team's weakness not trough lvling lyke a maniak or hunting for eq but by combining the skills u have and countering the oponent ur facing ... for me at least its the game iv always been w8ting for
I suges u go and vizit the tombs on the folowing BWE and ul get a small ideea what a GVG situation is

    *scuze my grammar*
