Lineage 2 Question

L2 had some epic-looking siege screenshots. How does L2 accomplish this with a PvP system and not an RvR or at least a GvG system. Are the conquests really GvG?

The seiges in L2 are huge battles between live players and NPCs.

The first time a castle is taken players attack and the castle is defended only by computer controlled guards.  If the castle is taken it is then put in the hands of the controlling clan.  When the next seige date is set the controlling clan and any other clans they invite take defensive positions inside the castle walls and defend, along with a certain number of NPC guards that will continue to respawn as long as the attackers don't get inside the castle and take out certain crystals or something along that line I believe ( I have never successfully taken a castle  image ).

The attacking clans form up on the outside and set up "flags" which are the point at which they will respawn at upon death instead of the normal respawn location which is the nearest town.  The flags can be taken down, something defenders and rivals will attempt to do.

Seiges are filled with lags and deaths, 20+ deaths are not uncommon if you engage consistently, but the experience loss per death has been reduced to 1%.  Seiges are basically chaos, quite often with clans that are both attacking the castle also engaging each other in attempts to thwart the other from being the one to capture the castle.  At the same time parties of defenders are also engaging them, making for alot of fun.
