I see many blame EA for a bad game here and there, but many doesnt know what EA is or doing.
EA buys a Companys or buy them self in to the company, or conracts them , or parts of it, or helps them.
For Exaple.
DICE was a independet copany, made a game called Code Name Eagle back in 1999.
EA saw potential in the company and gave DICE money to help them devolope a new game, "Battlefield 1942".
But not without a hatch, EA takes a bit of the proffit DICE are making or of the sales market.
EA buys or helps companys and take a bit profit of every company.
EA dosent make games, they buy and help the game DEVs to make commercial, support and all that comes with EA.
For exaple, EA havent made a thing regarding DICE new product Bad Company 2.
The only thing they have made in Bad Company 2 is with money and with Commercial, and market sales.
And Ea gets , lets say 10% for every copy that is sold,
And DICE gets market sales sky high thanks to EA, DICE is hapy , and EA is Happy.

like any other publisher
Sorry for my english
That's called a "publisher", just like a book publisher. The publishers don't actually write books. :-| W/o publishers, you wouldn't see many games at all. The only real difference is that game publishers give money to the companies while the games are being made, where as I don't think that book publishers give most writers money as they are writing books. Therefore, they have a say in what direction their investments (games) should go.
But, I do believe that EA makes games.
If you had bothered to check the wiki on EA you would see this on the very first line:
Electronic Arts, Inc. (EA) (NASDAQ: ERTS)[2] is an international developer, marketer, publisher and distributor of video games

it does develop. but most of the games it deals with it simply publishes. EA sports and stuff is their developing area...
Problem with EA is, or should I say WAS given that they've apparently learned their lesson, that they tend to meddle into the affairs of studios they acquire instead of just providing the funding and let the guys do their magic. I dread to see what's gonna happen to BioWare when EA sinks it's corporate jaw into them and imposes "corporate ideas" on what they should focus in their games aka. what's marketable and what isn't.
Short version; EA should just provide funding and stay clear of the actual development.
The OP syas "But not without a hatch"
so how did dice make it so we can get in the tanks?
EA owns plenty of developers. For example, two many know of are Mythic and Bioware. These developers have their own name, but in truth they are owned entirely by EA. They have no say in what they do aside from what EA gives them permission to do.
You do make an exellent point though, EA are not developers, the core of the company are executives that know nothing about gaming or game developement and only view each game as a dollar sign. The bigger the dollar sign they see a game as, the more interest they have in it. There isn't much wrong with this, they run the company for profit and leave the design up to passionate developers who work for them.
However, like many of these big game companies are doing now is looking at metrics and ratings and making big decisions that in actuality, drastically change a game in concept and design. Another thing they do is con the consumer, such cons include putting the Need For Speed name on just about all their racing games, despite the fact that most of them are not Need For Speed and were never intended to have any relation to it. They found the brand name Need For Speed sold more copies and used it to death. Like wise with many of their other big name games. In addition, they often pawn sequels off on their more novice developers fully knowing that regardless of how bad the sequel is, it will sell well just because of the name it has.
So what exactly is EA? IMO its a plague on the game industry, like many of its top competitors are. What many would call it is a necessary evil. Maybe thats true, but I have a feeling we're all hoping someone finds a better way of doing it and making big greedy companys obselete.
That's a double negative, 'not without' reads as 'with'. So it would be 'But with a hatch'. Not that I really have any idea what this is about, the OP most likely ment 'Catch' not 'hatch'.
