Stargate Worlds: Cheyenne Mountain Entertainment Enters Receivership

MikeBMikeB Community ManagerAdministrator RarePosts: 6,555

Continuing the arduous Stargate Worlds saga, Cheyenne Mountain Entertainment has announced that they have entered receivership. As part of the receivership CME has sold off all its  assets (including Stargate Resistance) to a company rather appropriately named Fresh Start, which was started up by former Cheyenne employees.

Nothing is mentioned of Stargate Worlds, however, leaving the MMO essentially in limbo.

You can read the full announcement here for more details. Additionally, you can check out Inktomi's latest entry to his MMO' Money blog here at MMORPG.com.

[Thanks Christopher8 and Inktomi and Cecropia for the tip!]

There is no way in a million years would I give them any money.

It is time to let stargate die, and move on.

Didn't the new company's owners think of the acronym FSS for their company, Fresh Start Studios and its similarity to another failed company's acronym, i.e Flagship Studios?

Not another Star Trek Online. "Bought by a new studio and dumbed down so much that it might as well be WoW with different graphics".

Goodbye Stargate Worlds. If these companies can't afford to continue the research for these games, they shouldn't even start.

Im sure they would like to borrow that crystal ball of yours, since you seem to think companies can see the future.

This was a certainty over a year ago it's just that the owner of CME/Firesky/shell studios managed to drag it out as long as he could in order to keep money coming in from his pyramid scheme/MLM/whatever that was based on SGW releasing.

This reminds me of Perpetual, transfering assets between entities.  Shame all that work going down the drain.

No argument but SGW was ripe to go to SOE.  They have the Stargate TCG and have the extra clout to support the game much like they did PotB.  I am sure they would differ with you on the IP care as they do seem to have a decent relationship with DC Comics.  That said, apathy towards the MMO market and its customers is awful with them.  They seem desperate to find the new online innovation to profit.

Well, if you followed the forum for the last year or so, you could have seen it coming too. :) I mean, when a gaming website took up a donation for unpaid CME employees because they couldn't put food on the table and presents under the tree?

    "There's yer sign!"

MGM never should have given the IP to a company that was completely untried. Ah well...

Seconded. Contrary to the poster above me, LOTRO is very well done, polished, and fun.

I'm going to be very blunt with this, have been a big fan of the stargate franchise for as long as I can remember, participated in the SGW community, took part in the testing etc. Long story short, the game was shit on the most fundamental of levels, if they ever think of continuing to work on it everything needs to be rebuilt from the ground up.

Seeing how STO turned out, I'm actually glad they failed before release. This way we might have a shot at a decent stargate mmo sometime in the future.
