After the recent interview with David Jones, it got me curious about what payment method they are going to implement.
As it seems right now, they are neither going for monthly subscription or micro-transactions.. Whats left then?
Any ideas on this topic? He say's that everyone they confronted with this payment method, are overall happy about it, even EA.
First I thought it was something like Global Agenda's payment method, you pay for access to a certain area where all the fun is.
But if there is no monthly payment or micro-transactions..?

could simply be a buy to play method..buy the game ..play the game like GW and have expansions which they said in the article they had planned or....
a by the hour which was said in the article but i highly doubt that
It would be nice if it was like guild wars.

And breathed in the face of the foe as he passed:
And the eyes of the sleepers waxed deadly and chill,
And their hearts but once heaved, and for ever grew still!"
~Lord George Gordon Byron
Could be something similar to Global Agenda, free to play for 30 days when you pay the initial cost then after that you have a choice to play for free or gain additional benefits from a small monthly fee in some form. Free to play, but pay 5-10 dollars for additional content, such as motorcycles, or special districts that suit your taste similar to buying content on Xbox Live. And also, given the games theme and setting they could honestly very easily sell in game advertising to cover operating cost and funding and pull it off, billboards, side of buses, and it wouldn't seem out of place in the slightest.
I would love if you had to pay monthly because (and this might anoy' some ppl) i don't want a lot of 12 year olds in the game, i know there would be some anyway but atleast there would be a lot less of them if it was monthly pay, since they would have to ask mama and dada to pay monthly for the game. anyway let the flameing start xD
btw this game is goign to be the best game ever EPIC
I disagreed about the kids playing. The most important thing about an MMO is the first M = Massive. The more people the better the experience. Ok kid have their down side bu i would have them in it rather than not simply because of the numbers. More so in a pvp type MMO as this is.
I have had my problems with kids in WoW as has everyone i guess, but not all kids are obnoxious and there are ways of dealing with the few that are.
Sometimes i think why the monthly sub has to be €15 or $15 for a game, why can it not be less, say $2 or $3, this would allow more people to afford to play, as there are many who would like to sub to more than one game, this kind of pricing model would fit this game me thinks or some kind of in game store.
In fact if you check out the FAQ on their website they say that there is unlikely to be a monthly sub and allude to some kind of alternative payment scheme, which makes me think about the in game store.
With the massive amount of customization they've said is in the game, I think an item shop which sold clothes, car modifications, etc, would work out very well for them.
My personal preference though would be a subscription as the base payment method. The "kids" that people complain about don't bother me, every game needs them, but the "f2p elite kids" I simply cannot stand.

well I believe what they said was that it was VERY unique and never done before so it can't be B2P, P2P or CS. I too am wondering what it could possibly be but regardless, I'm up for whatever it is, well...not if it's CS because CS games are BS games xD
one thing is certain is that it is going to start out B2P then from there it gets cloudy
lol yea and your sponsers pay for your gametime
I loved that you pointed this out. I've never been apposed to the idea of have in game advertistments IF, done properly. A title like APB could really make this be one of the only situation where it wouldn't seem off point to walk passed a store and see a Coke light up sign. Or driving a car on a road and seeing a build board with a Nike ad on it. I'm in a city it would make sense to see ads.
People will complain though, there's always the people who will. Even and a method a-la xbox live, I'm perfectly fine with that.
The current MMO subscription really needs to be changed. Not from P2P to F2P but more of a Guild Wars kind. I really shouldn't have to pay monthly for a game. I can be connected on xbox live with what ever game I want. Sure I pay monthly but 15 dollars for one game ever month is crazy.
Yes I pay for subscriptions. I'm don't currently and I'm not playing f2p, I'm just not playing any MMOs now. Than again I always think 50-60 for a new console game is fucking ludacris.
This would mean APB would have to hold a reasonable number of fans that are watching let alone playing to make it worth it for companies
9dragons had that at one time the top 1-1/2 inch of screen was constantly changing adds it was horrible and created major lag
I would assume it is going to be more like DDO, but instead of mission packs, you will buy new districts in the city. So every month or three months they will come out with a new district, with what ever theme people wanted the most, it may even have modified rule sets, etc... These districts would be like $10-20, making it about the same price as a monthly fee, but you only have to buy the ones that interest you, which if you only play casually and dont want a district for every imaginable theme would save you big bucks. BTW a district is what they are calling portions of the city, at release there will be 3, 1 of them will be a social only district, and they are 100 man instances.
As far as monthly fees keeping away zergs of little kids, thats completely false and you only have to look at WoW to realize it. I have no problem with kids playing along side me, infact, many times it adds fun to the experience. HOWEVER, with that said, the VOIP in game works so that whatever you say can be heard by everyone around you, not just your friends or group. I hope RTW has a plan to control this so you do not end up with everyone going around screaming the N word into their mic as they are fighting. Obviously there are other examples of what can happen, but you get the point. This is not specific to kids as many are more mature then the adults that play online games, however I assume its the generalization that is being made about imaturity and not someones actuall age being descriminated against.
You are absolutely right in that subscription-based MMOs do not stop obnoxious behavior from happening, if anything it often gives gamers a false sense of justification for their immaturity. They feel they are entitled to behave how the want because they are a paying member of the game. Vast majority of poor MMO etiquite come from adults looking to take their frustration out on others because they are having a bad day.
I too hope RTW will have some way to prevent or discipline VOIP abuse.
