Over all it will cost a lot less than any other mmorpg. Well maybe i shouldn't call it that becasue its not, but hey is isn't supposed to be.
The other thing about expansiosn is that u probably won't have to buy the first expansion before the second. Lets say hat when you buy the game it's chapter one. Then along comes chapter two but you are a little short because you used all your money on beer. Well then along comes chapter three and now you have some moeny because you've joiend your local AA. Well you can buy chapter three without buying chapter two. Not saying you still can't buy chapter two but oh well. I am pretty sure that this is how it will work but i could be wrong.
Guild Wars will be priced at a comparable cost to other first tier PC games.
Will there be a monthly fee for Guild Wars?
No, there will not be a monthly subscription fee of any kind, anywhere in the world.
anyway my take is Compared to most games, Eve excluded you have to Pay for the game, monthly, and for expansions. Considering that there will be no monthly on it I think it is great. What would be better is if you could pay for the expansion online and never have to go to the store and buy it.
I think more games should have options like this, plus it would cut down the overhead for the company selling it.
i dont see expansions being an isues for gw. the way way the games works, pretty much means that any update, new area etc can be done without re-installing or instaling a new component, after all this is what they did last beta, so short of a serious problem with the source code getting people to pay for any "expansions" is unlikely at best..and if they decide to actually release expansions that you have to pay for then theyare just giving ammo to the people that seem to want to flame this game at every opportunity
When most people reach and beat the last mission, what will the ArenaNet live team do to add variety and life to the game? Is it possible they will add more explorable areas, new PvP concepts?<?XML:NAMESPACE PREFIX = O />
Like most roleplaying games, when a player reaches the end of the missions, there will no doubt be a draw to play through the game as a different character, that is, a character with a different profession set. There are, after all, 30 possible combinations. And of course, playing through the missions no doubt will result in a character that is ideally suited to PvP play, as well, which is where many players will choose to become engaged. But yes, it's entirely possible that we will add new areas to the game when we conduct our regular updates.
We will actually have three areas of focus for various parts of our team:
· We will support the existing Guild Wars players with such things as technical and account support, a growing Knowledge Base, and our website
· We will add to the existing game with new and updated content
· We will develop the next chapter of Guild Wars
The additions to existing content will be conducted by our Live Team, and Team 2 will be focused on the development of the next chapter of Guild Wars. There will be some overlap, of course, and well need to decide what types of things to roll out for updates, particularly knowing that the game will be expanding over time and being careful that everything supports the expansion of the story. But I can foresee that we'd definitely want to consider content that adds fun and freshness to the game, such as seasonal events, perhaps a new area, a quest related to the story that has been told so far, and so forth.
And it just occurred to me that, after the first chapter has been out for several months, it would be super to add a "teaser" or two. Maybe an area that was previously inaccessible is now reachable; perhaps you find that a character that you thought was dead is actually back and alive and causing monster-sized problems all over again. I didnt ask Jess Lebow, our writer, about this directly, but I wouldnt be surprised to see him and his team foretell a bit about the coming chapter in the first chapter of Guild Wars.
Originally posted by Xardasteo Well, i can tell this much: - GuildWars Costs $50, NO Exceptions - NO Monthly Fee - U get when u buy the game, ....(how do i explain this ).... ok, u get like....Chapter 1 for an example. Later on u can buy Chapter 2, 3, 4 whenever u like, its not that when chapter 2 is released u have 2 buy it 2 be able 2 play the game, so u can also stick just 2 chapter 1 , ofcourse this is just an example, but pretty close 2 how it will be . - And I am Convinced that it will EXPLOSIVELY overrun EQII, in Sells Greetings, Xardasteo
Well If u ask me (I know no one is but i say it anyway)
DON'T Be so Darn Cheapish .(j/k)
Ok i don't like to pay extra cash to play (Hmmm Wonder if that MAY have been One of the reasons i chose GW)
But if u read the FaQ's on like ALL Fansites And Official GW page thay ALL r saying the same thing.
There Will be NO Monthly Fee BUT There will be like 2-3 Uppgrades to buy /Year AND you as a Player Do NOT have to buy it to be able to play or use Items from the new Uppgrade (Just buy the items from friends who have the uppgrade) BUT also i feel i "will have to" buy it as i will otherwise get to darn curious of what's new in the uppgrades .
The Uppgrade packs will contain stuff like new quests,Items Maps but still Items That is Possible to compare with items in the "Base Box" as they say Loud and Clear that the players shall not feel "forced" to buy them to be able to compete in pvp with people who do order the uppgrades.
Also if u ask me uppgrades make a Game Progress...How many here did buy a "Secual" to a game like Fallout and Fallout2 (almost the same game just a new Storry, some new monsters and new items)i sure did
hmm.... i reckon the fee will be free but they may charge for the expansions but theres one thing doesnt the game automatically get updated everytime you log on, duh!
I heard that some Expansions, that will come out for GW, will be apsolutely *FREE !!!!!*. This is no joke, i read it somewhere today....just 4got where . And thats a goooooood way 2 favor those who buy the game, i must say. I thought is was the second expansion that was going 2 be free
does anyone have any ideas on how much these expansions are going to cost?? i doubt that they will cost $50 but i would be disappointed if they were around $30, which seems to be the average price for expansions. i was hoping that they would be around $15 a expansion that way, it would still be a heck of a lot cheaper than paying the monthly fee of other mmo games. if anyone has any information it would be much appreciated
I doubt that they request more then $30, lets say $20 thats more likely. btw, if they give some of them for free i doubt they ask $30 for the none-free ones. so, i say $20, wich is VERY accepteble
Even if they are 50$ I am sure they will make sure their supporters get their moneys worth. It is possible that they will contain a whole new map full of new mobs. If they put as much time and effort into the quality as they have done with GW I am sure they will be worth it imo. One of the main reasons I will buy this game (besides the insane grafx, bulletproof gameplay, and great fun and variety) is to support the coming anti-p2p revolution that i believe GW is spearheading. To be honest I dont care if it does end up costing more as i just hate recurring bills and renting games.
I hate all these people saying that they don't want to pay for expansions. They do realize that ANet needs money right? They can't just sell the game and keep going with all the costs they have with this kind of game. I plan on buying the expansions not just for the new stuff but to also to keep the gw going.
Dont get me wrong, but they give some expensions for free u attract the ones that have GW, for example: if they give Expansion 2 for free, but to play that one u ned Expansion 1. You must admid that that is pretty clever, that way u make ppl but the first exp. to get the second also => 2 expansions for the price of 1 . so they know what they are doing.

Pretty sure AN has already said you won't have to buy a previous Expansion to enjoy a new one. Allowing you the freedom to pick and choose which expansions you want to buy.
In War - Victory. In Peace - Vigilance. In Death - Sacrifice.
Well you know what i think, well of course you dont but ill tell you
Guild Wars is free and will remain free of monthly charges no matter how many expansion packs they come out with becuse they done said it and if they change there mind them people will just go to WoW.
I love this game 1. reason is becuse its free of monthly charges 2. reason is becuse of the guild wars 3. reason i dont have to play the game 10 hours a day just so i dont get slaugter in a pvp battle.
They will make expansion packs becuse thats there way of making money and also think about it this way.
Originally posted by classperiod3 I also heard someone talking about in there first expansion they will add a new race and ill like to confirm that the new race will be UNDEAD.
Umm i have heard nothing about undead being a playable race maybe in wow but in GW undead are too overated games always incoporate them in most of the time. Always I just can't see undead tieing into a playable race they would be cool but no. Undead are suppose to be evil!!! lol not good :P start seing chosen undead.... i can see dwarfs but undead?! nope. i could see them tieing in with necromancers but thats it
Don't believe most of the stuff you read off forums anything official they have said about races are "not know at the time" they have not confirmed any race but where the heck did you pull this info out of lol
"Do you think Guild Wars will outsell Everquest II?" Yes, soley based on the fact that there are no monthly fees. You will not have to pay $120+ a year to play this game, like many of the other MMORPGs out there. This one aspect, most likely, is the reason why they'll be able to sell more copies than Everquest II will.
2. I cant remeber where but i remeber reading that you will get to mostlikly be undead and face humans in quest to give you a differnt prospective or something.
3. Undead where the only other race that was strongly influnce in the WPE
4. They already had undead mesmers and warriors in WPE
5. Undead chosens ones can be the chosen of the dark!
=> Now that's something i like 2 hear , in WoW i also played undead.....but i think that game stinks.... So if you play the undead u will be evil or am i misstaking? Anyway, thx 4 tellin' can't wait
hell i wouldn't mind if they were evil but how would that work in gw since there are zones and districts and the outside is each a single player realm only or a group realm that you is solely for you and your group now if gw was like tradition mmos i could see it work. i could only really see their evil in pvp but we already fight eachother in pvp. I don't think humans and undead will ally thats just me the undead defy nature and god by living

4-6 months between expansions
$30-$40 dollars an expansions
-or-
$15 a month
no new updates while paying 15$ a month

Arena net changing their mind and making GW pay to play is less likely then Wow becoming free.
Anyone that says so is highly uninformed or delusional

Well i cant confirm that it will be undead but here are some reasons that lead me to belive that very strongly
1. I read it on www.guildwars.com
2. I cant remeber where but i remeber reading that you will get to mostlikly be undead and face humans in quest to give you a differnt prospective or something.
