Iv gone to an Aion fan site and got a lot of info about the game. Most of the players there seem quite upset about it and didn't really provide me with much information. I hope I can get some information here.
I am a heavy PvE player, I love to quest, I love storylines, chatting with other players, I love being the party leader and going off to do dungeons and raids. That's my kinda fun right there.
Now I know Aion has open world PK, Which I can totally live with as long as I can still get things done in between. That means As long as I don't have to be killed every 15-20min I will not mind it.
There is an area called the Abyss, I have herd that it is optional to go in there. Now I have also herd this is where the majority of PvP happens. As well as end game PvE dungeons and raids.
Now I don't mind PvP when it is organized. I just mind complete gank fests when I am busy trying to quest (Example Age of conan PvP servers last year where you couldn't quest for 3 min before you got attacked).
I am also a very casual player I only have about 12 hours a week to play the game. So Being busy trying to survive from PKers for 6 out of my 12 hours I have a week will kind of be upsetting to me as well. Hopefully Its not as bad as AoC was in a PvP server.
My 5 questions are now.
#1 How often do you get PK'd per hour when you're out questing?
#2 Is there any way of knowing someone is coming to an Area so that you can move away or does some one in your area generally want to go after them too for rewards?
#3 Is the abyss optional if I have no interest in End game content?, Now this may sound odd but I generally don't care much for end game content. I probably will just reach max level and take a 3-4 month brake Like I do in most mmorpg games. I like leveling classes what can I say.
#4 Is there a solid Storyline in this game?
#5 What server is mostly dominated by the Elyos?
Comments
I think most people will tell you that if you like you like, if you dont like you dont like.
But I could try to answer your 5 questions:
1. I have been playing like 4 months, total 8 characters, 13, 21, 22, 23, 27, 30, 32, 44. Total PVP kills is 4 opponents. That was 1 kill every month.
2. The mini map is really difficult to use because too many red dots on the map. I have never seen opponent display in the mini map before. BUT, I getting used to notice one thing is that when there is any opponent getting closer to my spot, I will lagged at once, but I dont know if anyone else same like me. It is kinda good warning tho.
3. I never doing Abyss fort since I playing Aion, and that was the place I hate to go. So I cant give you more information.
4. The storyline about Aion is, after the King died, the kingdom fell into 2 sides, and each side need to grind forever and ever.
5. There is no server is unbalanced in worldwide, if there is any you may report it. Ncsoft will make it balance again, or Asmos will negotiate with Elyos to make it balance.
That was all I know, hope it is helpful to you.
In my experience is the PvE the problem.
I didn't even get to the PvP bit, because I quit when I reached lvl 25, due to the tedious PvE.
So My suggestion would be, skip it.
1 - Depending on the server you choose but sometimes you can have some elyos/asmodians camping certain areas in the places were there are rifts or in the abyss but when I played if you put the location in general you would get help in a matter of minutes so it was not a big issue.
2 - Didn't understand this part but some areas let you change "channels" so if x item in channel 1 was taken you can try in channel 2 or 3.
3 - Atm no it's not optional unless you don't mind grinding on mobs and dungeons to level meaning there's not enough quests to reach cap if you don't go in the abyss too.
So wait for patches 1.9/2.0 before trying it if you don't like partying and/or killing mobs and doing repeatable quests to earn some exp.
Like you said in the abyss the major things happen, dungeons, world bosses and other things.
4 - Personally I didn't find the storyline bad more immersive then some mmos if you bother reading and/or not pressing ESC during cutscenes.
5 - Ncsoft tries to make the population balanced so nothing like war would happen so if you go in aion's europe or usa website and check servers you can see how's the number of elyos vs asmodians.
From personal experience on Azphel server.
I have an asmodian: 50 sorc, 30 temp, 30 ranger, 30 assassin, and 31 glad.
If you have 5 chars (minimum of 30), there's a quest line called ceremony of the wise where you can gather level 30 blue daeva gear which any of your chars can use indefinitely, interchangebly, also a daeva weapon that matches the set.
Its pretty overpowered at 30, just saying, if anyone is wondering why i have so many chars at 30...
For your questions:
1. If your asmos (don't know about elyos), in prime time 3pm -11pm est: in Morheim, prepared to get ganked a couple times every hour...I swear there are more elyos invading morheim than there are in Eltnen (their equivalent home).
In Beslulan: same deal as above, maybe even more so, because you'll encounter more level 50s. Morheim has a level cap of 45 for elyos being able to enter...however there is a bug where a 50 can enter via a spy quest.
2. Usually someone will say "ely here "location" watchout or something to that lines. You can click location and it will give you the spot in which that person encounter elyos. You can then check to see if you should move or not.
3. Yes, its optional...but you're missing alot. ALOT.
4. Not really solid, no. You're a Daeva at level 10, congrats. go to war now!
5. Almost every server is dominated by Elyos for a good reason.
They have more quests than Asmos, so you'll most likely never need to grind as much. You can just quest.
They have, I think, 4 world bosses which drop gamebreaking gear. Asmos have no equivalent (except Alukina, but not really).
The gear can be disenchanted and used to +10 your weapons, which is why most Elyos have ++ weapons while Asmos rarely do.
They also get access to xenophon's weapon (asmos equivalent is betoni) 2 levels earlier than Asmos....wtf. A free gold weapon through a quest line...which by the way is easier to do than Asmos.
So basically, playing Elyos is like playing Aion in easy mode. Real players go Asmodian, the underdog. That's where the challenge is.
In the end, Aion is a PVP(ve) game, you're suppose to kill the other faction. You are at war. You can play without pvping but then that's like missing half the game...
Honestly you should try Lotro or just wait for Final Fantasy 14, they are your best bet for good PVE games.
Aion is a pvp centered game. This is coming from someone who played it since beta until level cap. Did everything and anything the game had to offer pvp and pve wise. Pve is majorly lacking.
I agree about LOTRO or FF 14, but It is pretty much a given that NCSoft will be creating PVE severs for Aion, they see the writing on the wall hordes of people begging for them all that lost income...and they could easily do it, and keep the Abyss as a PVP end game. But...you won't see that until Aion 3.0 I belive LOTRO is here and FF14 will be out by Oct. So go with one of those.
This sword here at my side dont act the way it should
Keeps calling me its master, but I feel like its slave
Hauling me faster and faster to an early, early grave
And it howls! it howls like hell!
To be honest, I'm a mostly PVE player myself and quite enjoy Aion. In terms of PVE content, the only thing really lacking is raids. However there was a video shown in Japan awhile back demonstrating a new 24-man raid instance, and I'm pretty excited about that. Regardless, I thought the 6-man dungeons Steel Rake, Draupnir Cave, Adma Stronghold, and Dark Poeta were all really fun, as well as the Mist Mane and Bakarma outdoor dungeons.
To answer your questions:
1. All the way to 1-50 I was honestly only ganked maybe a ten or so times. And I started my current character a month after launch, so it's not like I was ahead of the pack. I guess it's really server and playtime dependent, but with how rifts work and the curse for ganking lowbies, it's really not possible to completely grief someone for a real length of time. It's not uncommon to have a two to four hour window where there's no high enough level rifts for people to even come through. There's also no PVP at all in the 1-10, 10-20, and 20-25+45-50 zones.
2. You can create a separate chat window set to display enemy attacks/buffs and such and a lot of times get a nice heads up if an enemy is in the area. It even shows people going into Hide. Past that there's a radar that shows non-hidden people without regards to geometry, so it's pretty easy to stay on guard and avoid PVP if you wish.
3. Well, a fair amount of the quests 25-40 take place in the Abyss. So if you choose to avoid it you probably will end up having to grind at some point, although there are other areas for that level range. However, the Abyss really does cut off at 40 in terms of content. So you have the last 10 levels where you really have no reason to step foot in the Abyss.
4. I get the feeling that nobody in this forum even paid attention to quests. The campaign quests actually lead you through an overarching story. You're introduced to a heavy plot point somewhere before level 10, that ends up getting resolved at level 50. And then you even get an epilogue cutscene with a cliffhanger of sorts.
5. I'd tell you my server but I don't care to make the problem even worse. ;_;
I have played some group quest in PVE. At lv25, NTC, it was boring enough, I can't stay for more than 30 minutes. At lv37, Kaiden and grinding for molars, if you want to get +20% run speed boots, you need only 100 molars, if you want to have a piece of bodyarmor, you need another 150 molars. Normally, in a six man group with robin loot, you will get 1 molar every 6-10 minutes, because you can loot only when it's your turn. The loot rule is in turn but sometimes, some people loot more often than others. You also can buy molar from auction house. But the thing is that there are too many things you need to buy from auction house, and every kinah you spent means you need to grind more mobs. So, it basically grind = money, money = grind.
I have finally got the +20% run speed boots until lv42, because everytime I arrived Kaiden outpost, I got bored immediately after a few kills. I go Steel Rake instance, it is the same boredom, there is no fun at all for such grind especially those mobs have unintelligent AI. I feel I am hitting dummies.
If you are used to play F2P before and for a long time, you may like Aion because you will be familiar with many things in common, in addition, Aion is better than other F2P on the market.
If you do not mind forced group play ( past level 10 or so ), then FFXI is the best MMO on the market. The only PvP is ballista, and I am not even sure what that is, but it is optional to participate.
Aion is the least grindy korean MMO, and that is it's only merit............ if you consider that one.
Yes I agree, Aion can get pretty grindy when doing PvE and it seems to last forever. I quit at lvl 30 but am considering going back again after I find a good guild.
My suggestion is dont play Aion. You wont get to 50 without either getting ganked or seeing PvP so if your goal is to avoid it...you wont. Once you get past level 10 there is only 1 zone that the enemy cant attack you in and the level range for that zone are 15ish to mid 20's and the same zone again from 42+. That means levels 25 through 42 you will have to level in zones where yes, you can be ganked.
Just signed up to this site to answer your question m8.
I was in the same mood ONE month ago. Likewise im a pve player (carebear) And as there is no trial for aion ive bought and played the game.
After a month i got bored and cancelled my account. BEWARE.
In my opinion this game LACKS everything for a pve player. First, let me give you some game information and then answer your questions:
# quests r too low. After LVL 25 the xp gap and the quest levels gets out of control.
The quest variety in minimal, you kill, collect/gather or go to someone in somewhere to deliver a thing and WALK like 1000 miles. IE: Go kill 20, go collect 15, go to that npc and after that that that that that then return. and IN RETURN you ll get a bravo or a useless scroll.
You cant fly or mount. THATS A LIE. Walking all the way FTW.... In limited areas you can fly but as the limited areas its also LIMITED. Or you can buy temp speed boosts to do more WALKING .
Till 25 i only got 2 pvp quests (called SPY mission) which i have to find a random appearing rift to travel other side of the world.
After 25 You may go up to Abyss to get GANKED .
When i tried to do quests everytime 3 members of opposing faction appears above my head and when im attacking a mob they start to BACKSTAB.
Anyway, Back to land and questing..
You spent like 4 minutes to kill a mob by yourself.
You hit less, they hit hard and after 2 minutes you have sit to refill your health.
OR you need to have some fellow HEALER next to you or ull go bankrupt for buying POTions.
Item drops and rate sucks as a cloth wearer i only got leathers or chains.
Or as a plate wearer i got mostly cloth. LIKE the quest rewards.
You may get 1 item per 25 quests.
Also you wont bother with it, cos u already bought something from the broker.
CRAFTING sucks.
There are million of USELESS items that creates more USELESS items to create a less USELESS item which mostly going to vendor.
You mostly spend all of your time to GATHER the stuff. Guess what? GATHERING sucks TOO.. 3 minutes to gather 1 SINGLE iron ore? Yes thats true... I dont want to mention ABOUT aether gathering. You'll have to leave that for a higher level cos your flight time sucks at the beginning. When you leveled enough You can buy WINGS to increase your time.
There is no fun apart from killing mobs or getting ganked. Because there is no instance / lvl variety. You may enter the only one instance when u reach lvl 25 which is in the abyss which also resets after 16 hours which also has a level LIMIT.
There is a level limit when killing mobs. You cant go kill lower level mobs they wont drop anything apart from quest item.
There are some irritating BUGS that may kill you when you are fighting, flying, and walking. As nearly 1 year passed but they still exist.
As for your questions:
#1 How often do you get PK'd per hour when you're out questing?
You'll be ganked alot. So you cant be able to do quest. This will turn the game into a grind fest. You EVEN will not be able to move to the next quest location inorder to leave gankers behind and to move somewhere else. Because when you die you have to RUN from the soulhealer and have to pass the same spot again and be killed.
#2 Is there any way of knowing someone is coming to an Area so that you can move away or does some one in your area generally want to go after them too for rewards?
Maybe computer loading lag will tell you a glimpse of someone is near. but it may be also another fellow quester. Minimap doesnt show anything apart from red and green dots.
#3 Is the abyss optional if I have no interest in End game content?, Now this may sound odd but I generally don't care much for end game content. I probably will just reach max level and take a 3-4 month brake Like I do in most mmorpg games. I like leveling classes what can I say.
Campain Quest still continues in the Abyss and as for the instances are in abyss. You can bypass normal quests if u dont want to.
#4 Is there a solid Storyline in this game?
-We are the Good Guys and You will pay for what youve done!
-No!. We are the Good Guys and You will pay for what youve done!
-HAHA We are the BALAUR and WE EAT YOU ALL.
#5 What server is mostly dominated by the Elyos?
Check Website for domination status. Although it may not give the info that you want.
IN SHORT STAY AWAY!
There is basically no raiding for PvE. There are some daily named bosses, but they are routine and super easy to kill. Aion is not a PvE game, its mostly PvP and its contents will heavily be based off that system. The endless boring grind is the worse. It's so bad, it was one of strongest reasons to quit Aion. It just got incredibly boring with the lack of quests to change up the grind.
Aion is a mixture of older MMO ideas, but the bad ideas and actually made it worse. I would NOT recommend this game to anyone, much less a PvE gamer.
There is a trick to this (in case no one mentioned). Go into the chat options tab and enable enemy chat, combat, etc. and then make the color of those red. Believe me you WILL know when they are coming your direction. Worked every time for us.
To answer the OP I would say that there is a large amount of PvP in this game. Even though the non-abyss zones are fairly safe there are random rifts and you will get attacked from time to time. If you are adverse to the thought of engaging in any open world PvP then this game is not for you. It is not carebear friendly.
However, if you like crafting this game is actually good for that because the crafted items, if you make the right things and get the right pattern, schematics, etc you can craft stuff better than what drops off of most mobs. Exp gain through crafting is good too as you are not losing out on all experience if you spend an hour or so crafting things.
If you like the occasional battle than you may like this game but if not then it may not be for you.

1. Depending on which server I'm assuming, there was a point where I would get pked every 5 minutes, that points gone now, but it's more like every 30 minutes, just depends if the hard core rifters are out, then you'de want to go the map where there is no pvp, idk what its called in asmodae but its called theobormos, soemthing like that for elyso.
2. Yes people who get killed usually flag the people down with locations, which you can make in chat and by clicking on it view in map, idk any other games with that ability, so tried explaining it.
3. It's pretty optional, I never have to go there, and besides for forts, most pvp doesn't happen here, mostly through rifting.
4. Haven't really noticed a storyline, pretty much just the begining credits and whatever quest text says on campaign quests, but don't really know many people who read that.
5. It's actually pretty balanced out, most servers only vary by a percent or 2.
From what you have said, I don't think you would like aion very much, you will eventually have to face a decent chunk of pvp and pve is somewhat boring due to its repeatativeness.
I played Aion and i can tell you PVE wise,yo ucan get the exactsame thing in any F2P game,so why bother paying for it?
If you don't mind a half ass WOW copy a game that has enough quests to level to max, then play ROM.I am not sure if yo ucan find enough players to group with to do the raiding content, and it is hard to do without using cash shop, but for the most part ,you can play for free.
In Aion before release they claimed this huge story line and said they were spnding extra time to make it North Americanized,i have to say lies.in one isntance they send you off in a cutscene to a fiery planet, but other than that the game had no feel of a story,if they didn't tell you what the story was,you would never know.
The quests and the leveling is linear,so again this is nothing new at all,why would anyone pay for that? Many people get excited about being able to fly,imo it is a gimmick ,it does not make a an average game any better. Also the art/graphics are imo nothing brilliant, many like it,i know how they did it all and it takes no more effort than any other game.If your sole reasoning behind a subscription is the PVE,then just go play ROM.
Never forget 3 mile Island and never trust a government official or company spokesman.
My humble opinion here. Aion has a made it clear its a PvePvp mix. The game has a good pve concept but here are some of my pionters (prolly repeats from above) you'll get lost trying to solo, entering the lag filled abyss below 40 is stupid, gold sellers and hackers rule aion (because alotta players are buying it), Low item drop rate (affects crafting big time), Crafting is like vegas but way way worse. enough QQ the game is fun and pvp can actualy be fun in aion adds a risk watch your back edge to it, killer graphics ect. Its worth a shot you might realy like it.
Now i have gotten to 50 on a templar and have been 50 for about 4 months now.
This game has an amazing storry, lore, and verry complicated instances, more so than any other game i have ever played.
But the PvE content dose lack quite a bit.
This is a heavally based PvP game, and if you can't stand a little PvP I'd recomend to stear straight away. This is by no means an easy game, and it is like no other. PvP is the foccous in this game though.
So it's not weather you like one more, or not. It's weather you can stand both.
If by PVE you mean you like to kill mobs from 1-50, regardless of how long it takes, then yes Aion will keep you occupied for as long as you want. If by PVE you mean instances, however, be forewarned that instances in this game are few and far between. When you finally get to SR in the 40s, you have to run it till you want to kill yourself. When you're 50 you can run the DP, and upper forts. The three middle forts in the Upper Abyss are the exact same instance. Even the bosses are the same, but slightly tougher variations when you run it on "awakened mode." Again you have to run all 5 upper forts if you have access to them everyday and in the most efficient manner to maximize AP item gain endlessly.
To sum it up:
It's just plain boring.
This post is really all you need to know without all the bias and other game referrals.
If you like PVE there is plenty in Aion if you just explorer and enjoy the game. There will be times when you are ganked and there are time when some people will just pass you up. I had a few Elyos just wave and put up a shop to talk. There is a story that involves the Campaign quests and some of them are in the abyss. Every server is not dominiated by Elyos...as Lumiel is dominated by Asmos cause we work together and kickass!
If you don't want to get ganked at least once a night then i would not suggest Aion to you.
I also have to say that there are some really nice quests with some really nice stories.
On the asmo side there is a quest where a scarecrow has promised not to leave his master's fields even though the master has long since died and the land is filled with undead. But the scarecrow doesn't want to let his master down even though he doesn't know what happened to that master.
There is another quest where a skull asks you to find him some sort of body, any body, because he is jsut a skull and hates it. So you find the bones from some skeletons and bring them back only to find the twist in the quest...
On the Elyos side there is a young woman who yearns for a man she once knew and asks you to bring him a piece of jewelery, only for you to bring that jewelery and learn her secret...
So there is some nice writing and some nice quests. But when players are too busy just grabbing quests without really reading them then it becomes a bit sterile.

Personally, I enjoyed the PvE in Aion, however, past level 30 the grind really starts to wear on you. And it only gets worse the higher you level - my breaking point came in the dungeon Steel Rake, where you need to run through each section 15 to 30 times just to be able to complete a quest (compounded with a ~5 hour lockout timer, you can see how this becomes quite the time sink). However, Aion's PvP system provides a nice balance, and takes away from the monotony of the grind, provided you still enjoy that style of gameplay.
mm! aion was a nice game at start!dont know if its stil is!one major yes going for it was no gameguard
if its still like that !i would recommend it!sound silly but most gameguard type program even xtrap
bring lot of various issue that make gaming eratic.(i play aika ,and xtrap will be the main reason i leave if i do!yes its that bad)
aion is good game !is it worth its monthly?
now thats another question!
since a lot of f2p game have blurred the diff between p2p and f2p
game like rune of magic, allods ,or true mmo like aika(deceptivelly simple but very hard core)
so its a matter of personnal choice
but seeing the rest of the gaming community ,gamer are slowly moving away from p2p and are
gaming on various f2p game so its more you then us that decide
(on xfire its still in the top ranked so its a good game)
This is so true there are plenty of quests that are fun and actually have content but more people will never even read them. There are plenty of cool things in Aion alot of people will miss out on cause they are too worried about leveling. Too bad to sad.
