I really like Aion. Everything from the breathtaking graphics, the amazing music, great crafting and gathering system, spectacular writing and dialogue make for a absolutely outstanding mmorpg experience.
I'm currently level 24 and loving every chance I get to play the game. The PvP seems really good and balanced from the bits of duels iv experienced and the animations are great. Needless to say I could see myself playing Aion for many years to come, (or at least until FFXIV came out). That being said I'm going to end my subscription after my free month is up. MAYBE after I pay 1 month.
Why?
Well let me put it this way. I'm a full time college student. I am currently taking 12 Units, In the honors program, as well as the Speech & Debate team.
My weekly classroom time alone is 18 hours or so. On Average I spend 5-6 hours a week studying for each one of my 4 classes. That is a total of 42 hours a week, add 1 hour a day for transportation which is my average and adds up to 46-47 hours a week on average. This is just for my basic class work and school.
The debate team takes up another 5 hours a week of classroom (In college) time, add 47+5 = 52 I also practice for the team outside at least once a week which usually takes up 3 hours more. 55 hours a week so far. The honors program takes up 4-5 hours a week on average to do what they ask me to so thats 55 hours a week. (HOWEVER since the honors program only happens one month on one month off I won't put it in my calculations) This is all entirely based on school.
My college time Is 55 hours a week doing school or school related activities.
+ 6-7 hours a sleep per night X7 = 104 hours a week. Add my 5 day a week part time job, usually 6 hours each day and that is. 134 hours.
Add the few times a week I get to socialize with my friends or just spend time with my family, and that adds up to about 8-10 hours a week. So far we got 144 hours of the week.
This is having a full life and focusing on what matters.
Now There is 168 hours in a week, subtract 144 hours you get - 24 hours a week that I can play Aion.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
This is how my Aion play session usually goes.
I log in, maybe take 10-20min to talk to my legion check my sales, and do a bit of crafting. Then I go out and do some exp, I go for about 20min on average sometimes 40min and I start to exp, then bamn Get ganked. Ok, so I figure Ill wait a bit. wait 15min in town, go back out, usually again get 20min of exp and get ganked again. Once more I decide to wait, 15min or so go back out and if im lucky ill say I get 40min of exp this time, by this time I usually have to log out because I have to sleep or Iv pushed back my study time to get some game time in and I need to study so there we have.
So on average generally speaking 30-40min out of every 2 hours are spent waiting for the Asmodians to get taken care of so I can go exp.
This is on a weekday, on weekends things are much worse, but I won't go into more detail.
I love pvp, I truly do and If I could find a way to exp freely without being ganked multiple times in a 2 hour period I would be in heaven.
I love open PK games too, but my last open PK game was not as bad as this. I usually got ganked once every 2 hours sometimes once every 3 hours of exp there.
This is kind of silly really. It just seems like the game was not designed with the casual user in mind. I maybe able to get to level 30 maybe even 35 at this rate. But what happens when I get above that? How about 40 and 45? From what Iv herd with that time I have available I could probably only get 2-4 bars of exp per week at 40+ maybe 6-7 bars with the bonus exp for not being online a few days.
No matter how I look at it I can't come up with a way to continue to have a good busy real life, and be able to at least progress in Aion.
I love mmorpg games, I just need to find one that is as good fun and enjoyable as Aion is, but with a more casual friendly style. It's really to bad because Aion is BY FAR the BEST mmorpg game I have played since I started FFXI back in 2003 when I was in highschool and still had time to kill. Those were the days.
I guess you can call this complaining or crying about ganking if you wan't although I really don't feel that way about the game at all. TBH I really don't like when people go around saying how much a game sucks. And Honestly I usually don't post when I leave games there's really no point generally for it. However I think this is a special case that is not your average "I quit" thread and actually has a point to it. My point being, Aion is not very casual player friendly. Which maybe a lot of you guys knew, but I honestly did not. From the early interviews with NCsoft back in 2007-2008 about the game they made it seem like it would be. Guess they fooled me.

You study too much mate
Can I have your stuff?
The average MMO gamer plays 3 hours a day. You're quitting Aion because you can only play 24 hours a week which is 3 hours more than the average MMO gamer according to multiple MMO comapny censuses. I'm curious as to how long you believe someone is supposed to be playing an MMO for it to be worth the subscription? I play on average 43~46 hours a week, my peak being fridays and weekends. My girlfriend on the other hand plays 10~15 hours a week and still pays for a subscription. Now if you're on a one month reoccuring subscription you are paying $0.12 USD per hour since you're playing 24 hours a week which is 120 hours a month and a month sub is $14.99 USD. That's not even the price of fucking cheap bubblegum!
I don't know what other things you need everyday that you need to save $0.12 USD everyday but an MMO in my opinion is a great way to spend $0.12 USD.
This is just my opinion. You might know some use of twelve cents, but I don't. Here in Canada I can maybe buy a stick of really fucking cheap bubblegum with that but I won't enjoy it as much as the friendships and relations I make in any MMO.
My suggestion to you for Aion is get a good group of friends together, if not find a good legion then spend about one hour or less planning out your next 2 hours. After that follow through. 3 hours a day is enough to get everything in a game, those who play more are usually just socialising, preparing for boredom by rushing to max level, or griefing since they have real life issues.
Anyways, I hope you reconsider after reading this since you do seem to enjoy the game. I know I do, and there's only one thing that would ever make me quit the game: another great game.
glhf!
You make good points I'll have to think about it now that you put it this way.
Also yeah I study a lot mate but I can just manage to get C's and a few B's
I'm just not the kind of person who can "get" stuff when they see it. Takes a lot of work for me to understand things people could generally go to class and pick up.
Then please do yourself a favor stay away from MMOS.
One of their allure is that, unlike real life, they project a sense of accomplishment. But you don't really gain anyting from MMOS.
Stay in the real world, pick a subject that you like and read up on it. Work on problems that interest you. Leave the MMOS to rot.
Hint - before studying, try to play. Only play until you get ganked 3 times. If this happens too quick for the time you wanted to spend playing, go study and try again later after you're done or you're on a break from studying, or on the next day study less and attempt to play more, making your Aion time flexible to whatever-day you're not getting ganked too much. Win-win situation, either you'll have fun or you'll succeed more in life. Don't waste time in a virtual town doing nothing waiting for time to pass so you can try leveling again.
yikes, worst advice ever. Study first, when your work is done then play.
Geez. I know it is the internets, but that's some that's kooky advice right there even by those standards
What I normally do Is I don't even get on if I know I have work to do for school that day. Especially if there is a Quiz or a Exam coming near. Basically even though it seems like I have 24 hours a week to play, realistically I only get on Thursday Nights for like 3 hours Friday about 4 hours and Saturday about 3 hours. Which I don't know how much I can get done with that limited time later on. I absolutely do NOT put the game before my school work. I don't think I could be getting A's if I worked any harder considering I work hard enough to be completely burnt out with studying 5/7 days a week. This next week of March 29 ill have a BIT more time to play only because spring break. Yet I still have 3 Team projects I have to finish in this week. Meetings with my team, and study for a Exam that is going to take place the Monday after spring break is done. So at most ill have the actual 24 hours this next week to play.
damn. you make me want to activate my aion account and force myself to enjoy it just because i feel bad for you that you cant play much.
do what was suggested here and play it if you enjoy it.if youre planning to stick with it a long time you will get max level eventually and be able to compete.......you might actually enjoy the game instead of everybody else who rushed and there will always be new content out before you get bored with whats there.
op!if you get the jitery at time you can always come play aika online.
I was like you few months ago...so I decided to just stop playing MMOS...not enough time ...and anyway there is not a good MMO that I wanna play.

Yeah I decided not to keep playing it.
I really don't want to try so hard to force myself to squeeze the few hours of relaxation time I have into Aion.
There are so many other fun things that I can / Rather be doing than sitting infront of the computer playing a game for 3 hours.
Aion is not a bad mmo, but I think I'm at a point where Iv out grown mmo's and my interests have completely shifted away from this type of game in general. At one point I used to view them as huge fun open world communities, full of wonder exploration and endless adventure. Now I just look at them as Kill unlimited number of mobs to gain loot and levels. My view has completely changed on this genre and with it my ability to want to spend what free time I have left on them.
As I said, the game is fine, As far as the mmo genre goes its one of the best by far.
There is a non gankable zone for players level 20-25 and 45-50,
Also if ganking is that much of a problem for you, try re rolling a ranger or Assassin, and poping hide when you think dangers comming.
Or you can do what i did and be a meet bag templar witch half the people don't bother killing because they take so long to kill.
Eyther way, I hope you can find you way around the ganking to enjoy this marvolous game!
