This is what happens when you selling a million copies of your MMORPG game worldwide in less then 6 months. Lots of jobs open up to support the flock of gamers who are playing. I can see WoW holding a solid user base for at least 2 yrs and then the hype and addiction will start to die down. By that time, I would have had as much fun and adventure then any other MMORPG I've ever played.

Blizzard North is hiring for an upcoming RPG... diablo 3 perhaps? ::::34::

Seeing as just about all the people who worked on Diablo 1 and 2 left blizzard and are now creating guild wars, I doubt we will see a diabo game for a long time...

I think it is that Blizzard has no idea what they are doing in the MMO buiness... their customer service sux, they can't keep servers up and were pushed to an early release by Vivendi.

Typicaly Blizzard push back any product they were not 99% satisfied with. Open beta eas more stable than what I am playing now. I havn'tplayed in over a month, went back to eve and CoH. Not as fun, but I can play without ques and have a stable environment.

Blizzard is hiring to try and make their product workable so they can start to sell more cpoies of the game to make up for the people who got fed up and quit. As a share holder I have that information, and they have lost ALOT of subscribers (people who did not renew their sub after jan/feb).

Blizzard need to hire more people, unfortunatly with the loss of the people who left due to the disgust thet felt for Vivendi the new people are starting with a half finished product and trying to learn the coding stiles of others who are not there to help them along it.

It's a shame, Blizzard was a good company.

    Keep moving.

    I so love this game...

I hope it doesn't go the way of Horizons, due to lack of knowledgeable people to continue to keep it running. On the boards, I see so many unhappy people, and no Dev's to help ease their fears. (Mine Included :(..

Their main problem atm is that no-one talks to the players. By that, I mean.. No one of higher importance. Yes, the poor MODS try to keep things in order, but flames, whining, and disorder are occuring at a alarming rate lately.

If Blizzard would just TALK to their player base, it would help bunches!!
If they came onto the boards and said: "Hey Look!" "We are having problems with such and such.. please bear with us, through our growing pains." I think players would calm down more and try to be less frustrated and more reasonable.

    But..
To absolutely say nothing.. is NOT good business policy!!

    *sighs*
    What do I know?
Just my humble opinion on the state of things atm..

OSI talked to their player base and it didn't save UO.  You can't please everyone and frankly, I don't think Blizzard is worried about loosing the few (let's say less than 1% of the player base) who cry, bitch, and threaten suicide on the boards.  I think Blizzard is doing just fine.  Yes, I play WoW and I will happily continue paying my subscription along with the other 99%.

Blizzard North is a seperate company, or division I guess would be the proper term. Blizzard owns the Diablo license and can continue to make them regardless of who worked on them. Just because the original devs aren't there anymore doesn't mean they cant keep making them.

So far in total they have lost more than 1%, they have less total accounts than they had for open beta signups on release, and have lost somewhere between 7%-9% of initial sub scribers. Seeing as they are not producing WoW copies at the moment and there is no ETA on when they will. It's projected they will lose over 100k of regular subscribers by April at the current rate of player exodus.

As for Blizzard North, Their office is an hour and a half from me. The job postings are for california. I am not in California.

    Keep moving.

I'm not sure where you're getting your information tryancy.

They are still producing copies of the game, and it's for sale at their official store here: http://shop.blizzard.com/section1/?user=n1FH1lQIuvYgAELiJyFUKugPcDJyP%2BJsZr8II7MLkj4=

According to their company profile (http://www.blizzard.com/inblizz/profile.shtml), they have a current subscriber base of 750k subscribers in North America, which is well above the cap of 250k subscribers they had for open beta (or was it 500k? I can't remember).

I agree completely that their communication sucks, that people are getting pissed off, and some people are leaving. However, I still feel the vast majority of players are still happy with the game and don't really care about the communication. I don't believe most players even read the main website or forums, and even fewer post in them. Why waste your time in the forums when you could be playing the game? Granted, many people check forums at work, but still I think the majority are quite satisfied. If they've only lost 7-9% of initial subscribers (could you post a link to that source?) they're doing pretty good.

    Shareholder only info.

As for OB was 500k. your number 750k is the number of active characters not accounts it even says based on players not on subscribers. Seeing as I had about 10 chars spread over 6 servers I accounted for 10 or that 750k, figure on average most people have 2-3 chars...

There is well under 500k people with active accounts. Many MMO's Try to use the number of chars to define accounts. It's symantics and it helps make them look better. Games like EVE are fairly honest because they tell you how many people are logged in when you log in.  Eve has about 20k accounts total. They do more updates, produce better patches and have better customer service.

    Keep moving.

Tyrancy you're an absolute moron. Shareholder? I didn't realize Blizzard was a publicly traded company...Oh, that's because they aren't. image

And FYI, It is Blizzard North that is hiring for the positions in California. Jesus, you're stupid.

  • vash85vash85 Member Posts: 75

They better get more people on-board and help with WoW. By looking at this chart, Blizzard is high over their head with this MMORPG.

    http://www.mmogchart.com/Chart1.html

The more people, the better. If not, they are going to have problems down the road.

Yea, I;m think either they really need more programmers with their success with WoW, or it's just all the employees don't like the way they are treated.  Guild Wars was made by an ex-blizzard guy, an the original team that made Diablo II also quit to form Flagship studios. The creator of Starcraft also left Blizzard...WoW!

Vivendi Universal is Publicly traded, and owns Blizzard. I would hope you will in the future do some research before you try to flame someone.  As for the postions, they for California. Read the site, it asks for people tp relocate to Irving. Blizzard North is not head quartered in Irving, though the Blizzard head offices are. Please check your facts. Some positions may be forwarded, but not all, and certainly not most.

    Keep moving.

Since when does Players=characters? Even if a single subscriber has 50 characters, there's still only 1 player behind the keyboard. The only site I've ever seen that equates players with characters is WoWcensus.com, which lists 1.4 million characters tracked. Warcraftrealms.com lists 1.8 million level 10+ characters tracked. If Blizzard were counting number of characters, their number would be much higher than 750k!

    *shakes his head at Tyrancy*

although... he did have one thing right, Blizz is a division of Vivendi Universal. The following is a direct qoute from  http://www.blizzard.com/inblizz/profile.shtml :

With a subscriber base of more than 750,000 players and peak concurrency of over 250,000 users.

    Note it says players...

Also, this is a qoute from one of the Job listings for a Blizzard north Position:

This is a full-time position in San Mateo, CA

    wait... another direct qoute...

Located in San Mateo, Calif., Blizzard North strives to push gaming technology to the next level.

You live somewhere in the pacific maybe? because, by looking at this: http://www.mapquest.com/maps/map.adp?searchtype=address&country=US&addtohistory=&location=t7LiipowTLK5efx09uTNWJfnBivoyfltS1LqEEAhfQz4fKnRNWWYFKdCU7V%2fVwnrYzmbgpGr8%2f5L126ngWBuOg9lIyjy2YoEMvDwi6dq1Pk%3d

We can see that San Mateo is pretty darn close to the West coast. unless, of course, Blizz does not know where their offices are.

(lol... he said he wanted research image )

With how they've done lately I wouldn't be surprised if they didn't know.

Glad to know they've taken my advice finally. I've posted a few messages on their suggestions to hire more peeps to help accomodate the overpopulation. Maybe this will help the servers get online so they can start concentrating on getting some content released...

How old would you have to be to get a job like that?
    Salary?
What kind of classes/education would you need?

  • DremvekDremvek Member UncommonPosts: 160

You'll probably need a college degree in some sort of technology or graphics design field, and in the cases of most of the positions posted, a fair amount of real world experience to boot. Programming, administration, management, etc.

The jobs will probably pay very well, but are designed to be career type jobs, not part time after school jobs. The requirements are posted for the jobs - take a look at the descriptions. Most people won't be eligible for most positions.

I think Tyrancy is right, they are obviously hiring tons of Senior Programmers, Artists, Game designers and GMs because they are on a downward spiral with no end in sight. That would be the only reason I could think of to hire people. ::::37::

I had to create an account just so I could respond to this guy. Tryrancy, quit spreading invalid and false propaganda. Even as a share holder of Vivendi which is traded on the New York Stock Exchange, your not entitled so every bit of information you are pretending to know. Your entitled to the companies financial reports and analysis like the rest of us. It is readily avail be to anyone, even non-stock holders. You see when you go to buy a publicly traded company you are entitled to all that information in what they call a Prospectus. It is not going to have jack about the number of subscribers either. So your pulling numbers out of the air to help support things you assume to be true.

A Prospectus is a formal written offer to sell securities that provides an investor with the necessary information to make an informed decision. A prospectus explains a proposed or existing business enterprise and must disclose any material risks and information according to the securities laws. A prospectus must be filed with the SEC and be given to all potential investors. Companies offering securities, mutual funds, and offerings of other investment companies including Business Development Companies are required to issue prospectuses describing their history, investment philosophy or objectives, risk factors and financial statements.

I am a Vivendi stock holder, and have been for quite some time. I didn't see anything on number of subscribers of one of thier divisions (Blizzard Entertainment), nor would I expect to see that type of infomation.
