A lagging game

Larry2298Larry2298 Member Posts: 865

Every game I have played before all have lags problem from time to time. Recently, I found out the game lagged become very stable lag, 5 times laggy than normal. It went up to 8 times more lags occassionally but it will not exceed 10 times lags than normal. The duration is almost all day long. Playing this game for 5 months till now, I remembered none of the server updates from the past has been normal status. So averagedly, I could say the game is laggy.

Sometimes, I suspect it was ISP or router problems, but after I changed both for better, boost internet connection, close other Windows programs ….etc but the lag still there. It just wasted my money to change something for nothing. It is server problem.

Many skills are counter skills or responsive skills or followed up skills in Aion, due to constant stable lags, the tasteless grind become even unplayable. I noticed that the range class would be affected worse than melee class. Because most of the melee skills are instant cast, the range classes such as sorcerer has longer casting time and their skills have much higher probability to be interrupted.

I havent play other server but only on EU server. For these few months play, imo, Aion is not just a heavy grinding mmo but also a laggy mmo.

Hi, I am not trying to shut your post of short, but.. I play on EU castor. I can honestly say, I do not get alot of lag. Maybe a little here and there like most mmos, but nothing to grummble about.

I'm sorry to here it is bad for you. I will say one thing in your favour. I do get a slight desync at the air boat in sanctum.

That sujests server side instances, well that is what someone sujested.

As for adding in the extra , 'its  a grind'  part. Yes aion does havre some grindy parts to it, but like such games as DF and so on, people want the stats and armour, but wont to apply the effort to getting it.

    cheers :D

Well the first paragraph was hard to read, but I take it the game just became more progressively laggy as it went on for you. You never really specified what kind of lag, like skill delay / net lag or fps lag. You could try the lag reducing programs that came out specifically for these problems, since for some reason the ping is very high on aion even when the server is located near you (I'm on west coast and was getting 400 ping all the time on a west coast server). But if it's FPS lag then it is your computer.

Well, I'm not going to get too deeply into the whole "grindy" thing with you as I've played an actual grind game and Aion is very far from that game.

I will actually agree with you about small lag bits.

With some games you can hit the skill and "bam" you feel an instant (or practically instant) response.

I've noticed that with Aion, even though movement is very fluid and responsive, that skills feel laggy and in some respects you feel the slight pause pressing a skill button.

It's not even that you press a skill button and wait for a response but that the actual pressing of the button feels as if somethign is being loaded.

I'm not sure why and I'm not sure if everyone experiences that or not. But I sure do.

What are your comp specs? Aion is a more graphically demanding game as oppose to games such as WoW or F2P games. Your "Lag" could be due to an influx of users and events around you. Try killing your anti-aliasing and running them game with almost no graphics and up it from there. Before I rebuilt my machine I encountered what appeared to be lag, which turned out to be my video setting set to high.

It depends on what type of lag you have as the previous poster said. I had a spikey ping problem with Aion when I played. I live in the US so it may be different for you. What I did was used smoothping and I didn't have any more lag problems after that. When I used it they had WoW and Aion proxies, the WoW ones cost money but Aion was free when I used it. http://www.smoothping.com Hope that helps.

Playing on a 200~250 ping (I could pay a tunneling service and get 100~150, which would be low enough to avoid ALL these issues I am going to mention but after I got hacked I don't really feel like sending my account name and password through third party servers, especially when that's the only thing I think about that could have caused the password leak), I have some trouble gathering stuff. I have to move one step or wait a few milliseconds before repeating the gathering otherwise the attempt to gather will start and cancel, wasting one gathering usage of that node.

I don't remember feeling lag when using skills, but I remember feeling lag when using conditional skills such as the scout skill that has to be used behind a foe, those would be based on server-side locations and not client-side, meaning it might not match and you end up using a skill incorrectly.

But no, the ping I get is not really bad considering the distance to the server. Playing from Brazil on NA servers I get an average of 200~300 ms ping, in some rare good times that becomes 100~200.

As a test I turned down most everything and it did make the interface feel a bit snappier. In some cases there is still this sense of a slight wait for the skills.

Which I find interesting as I don't really get graphical lag with most everything turned up.

That's exactly what I'm talking about.

There is some sort of slight but perceptible pause with some things. I had it on skills but I had noticed it on gathering as you mentioned.

It's so slight that it's barely even an issue but I've noticed that other games just seem "snappier". Yet my fps is fine and I have no complaints.

Normally, I had 56-85 ms. Since server updates, my ping getting up to 436-850 ms, if there was Abyss fort fighting, it went to 1036 up to 1350 ms. Therefore, it is impossible for me to play Abyss with such lag.

My PC is a bit old but I use it only to play game and I have reformatted hard drive, reinstall Windows XP, update drivers etc a couple days ago and fine tune the entire PC for best performance to play game.

Core 2 Quad, Q6600 2.4GHz CPU, DDR2 8MB memory, Nvidea 8800GS 1MB, SATA2 HDD, Asus P5K motherboard, frontbus 1066MB. I have another PC Core 2 Dual E7500 2.9GHz, Nvidea GTX240, had same lag. And no one using the internet except me. No other background application running. No spayware, no malware etc to drag down the internet speed.

As said before, whenever there was Asmos come closer to me, I could sense there was strange lag spike all of a sudden. The lag spike is different from the server lag. I was grinding in Heiron 2 nights ago, all of a sudden I sensed such lag, so I stop a while and looking around, the lag spike definitely is true. I didnt see any asmos, and keep grinding then a Asmos rogue appeared, I guess lv40, I am lv44 Sor, the rogue has plenty time to prepare to ambush me from outside of the screen, stun first, then......aether strike .....to place you in the air then when I was released from the air. I am as good as dead. Didnt even make one strike.

Some skills are 0.5 second so if the game is so laggy, it will lose any fun.

My isp is usually good. The ping allways shows around 60ms. However this good connection seems to have nothing to do with the lag in game. An example, I use a skill that is suppose to stun the target and teleport me to be exactly behind his back and in melé range. If I do this on a running target , then he gets stunned (at a certain probability) but he still continue to move forward while he is stunned (this happens on both pve mobs and pvp targets) with the results that I still end up being at a large range behind him and having to walk for 3 seconds when I was suppose to catch up into melé range. If this is not called lag I don't know what it is, it makes the skill worthless. And it's same with all skills, a lag factor is constructed in the game so you really don't know when the skills goes off in a chaotic situation when targets are running around. It's just a buttom spam fest without control.

Hmm started playing on EU Votan 3 days ago, everything runs very fluid up until now. In fact i'm pretty impressed with the responsive character controls(Assassin). No lag at all. But yes there seems to be some kind of delay on gathering, even though it's just minimal, it is there.

    Sorry for my english ;)

    Use this http://www.wowinterface.com/downloads/info13581-LeatrixLatencyFix.html

Yes, I know it says for WoW but Aion and Wow both use networks in a similar way and the "fix" is a universal change and just changes the way windows uses its network. I live in Houston and was getting close to a 300 ping on east coast server (which is crazy, every game I play I have at most a 50ping anywhere in the US). This fix reduced my ping by my ping went from being 300 to 100 and most people report the results the same with a 66% decrease in ping and latency. Hope this helps you. I'm guessing Aion has yet to work with ISP's to make sure latency is low : /

Kar posted what I was going to, that fix will work on any MMO and reduce latency.  I had a friend last night in Sout America try it and it reduced his ping down from 1000 to 500ms, not great ping for him but better then what he had.  As for Aion lag in general I can say that since playing at launch my ping averages around 60ms and my response on NA servers has been very fast.  Europe or elsewhere I cant say
