I've been giving this some thought tonight. Should I give in and finally get this game? Is this the game of choice for now?
Just a few quick question.
Are they unique items? (rare drops) Is one rare item the same as the next copy of that item? Or is each item unique like in Diablo II?
When it comes to PvP, can you be killed anywhere by any player? Or are there certain areas you have to be to fight other races?
Looking for something new.

*smacks forehead* duh, I dunno how i forgot about that :P
Looking for something new.
if you like waiting in line to log in, lots of lag, no customer service skills, getting banned for no good reason, horrible graphics, broken pvp, no content updates...i could go on. then be my guest, go get it.
To narrow it down... World of warcraft is Diablo on EverCrack
Dunno but the Euro server i play on perform good imo, Community is thriving... Can't say of US servers obvious.. But can't be as bad as you make it sound..?
Well hopefuly I can be more helpful then these blokes.
1. There is customer support and yes they are helpful. This is comming from a player who yes has had to use it a few times.
2. PVP is bad in PVP servers IE, it's your feel free to gank anybody anywhere style of gameplay. However go to a PVE server, and the system works great. Most of the raids and fighting happens between players in their high fifties to sixty and really make for a more fun experance, at least as far as I'm concerned.
- I think the only reason our EQII friend is complaing is because his game still has to wait for PVP . WHich is funny because the whole game is knida based around that concept.-
3. There are no lines to log in anymore on any of the medium or low pop servers. Even when there is a line which is on high pop servers durning primetime it isn't long.
4. As far as content updates we've had two instnaces open since launch and two more sechdualed to come next patch, isn't EQII just now getting their first add on.
5. The graphics or as I would like to call it "art dirrection" does require a perticular taste. Yes some people don't like it, and really it's up to YOU to decied weather or not it works for you. It does for me, infact I'm willing to say as far as grace and beauty of landscape is concerned world of warcraft has probably the best art dirrection out there. Sure it doesn't look realistic, but what it does have in spades is style, something that somepeople have no accounting for.
6. As far as getting banned for no reason is concerned I find that disticntly hard to believe. However blizzard is a bit to draconian for my tastes when it comes to certain issues. IE Naming and harrassement. For instance my Gnome Mage's name used to be twopacksaday, however after making a harrasment complaint aginst another player the GM I convesed with thought it was a bit to much like a sentance for his taste and decied to force boot me and change it. Extrodinarly not cool. They did eventually allow me to change the name, however, it was some work. This marks my only real BAD experance with customer support.
There I think I've addressed the points of our EQII friends, now how about some pros and cons.
Pro's for buying world of warcraft-
1. As far as world flow and is concerned I have not played a better MMO to date. By world flow I mean how the verrious "Zones" feel as you move from one to another.
2. The art dirrection of WOW, if it's to your liking, is simply breathtaking. I will redaly admit some people don't like the as they would say it, "cartoonish" look of wow. However if you can look past the bright colours and exagerated bodies you'll see a world or lush vibrant landscapes and quirky characters who's simple elegance delights the eyes and fills and pleases the soul.
3. Fantasticly innovative take on old classes. Each class in world of warcraft save maybe the mage, priest, and paladin, play with new life thanks to some interesting touches. Which mean that whenever you get behind the controlls of these classes you have a totaly new experance waiting in the wings. Where as in other games IE DAOC, which I am still a great fan of, and Everquest spell caster classes and fighter classes seemed to feel much the same with diffrent effects. My hat goes off to world of warcraft for making each class distinct and rich. Even the warrior, if you have the pacents to level him to a point where he's useful.
4. Quests abundant. World of Warcraft is simply bulging with things to do. Just about everwhere you go there is someone with a big yellow excalimation point above their head. The real fantastic thing is dispite alot of these quests falling into the fedex or killtask quest catigory they still seem fresh and new even at higher levels.
5. The instances alone are worth the price of admition. I've played my fair share of mmo's in my day, but world of warcraft has actually made instances fun, long and involving. Not only do they require a fair amount of skill to defeat, but they are crafted with such love and care that it's almost impossible to not enjoy yourself, assuming you have a good group.
6. Soloing is not just a fantasy. Ever have one of those days where you simply don't want to deal with other people but for some reason feel the need to play an mmo. I know I have and simply hated it in games like EQ1 where solo wasn't really an option. Well your in luck because just about every class in wow is capabile of soloing and you can have fun doing it. Infact most of the quests in wow, save the ones with the little elite tag next to it's name are capable of being soloed. So feel free to eat your little antisocail heart out.
7. Ease of use- Ever heard the expression easy to use hard to master? Well, that in a nutshell pretty much discribes world of warcraft. Each abbility in wow has a perpous and use, and it's real easy to figure out. However figuring out which combination of spells or abiblites works best for your class or fits your play stylle takes a long time, and really makes you stive to be a better player. For the most part eleminating that lather rinse repeat feel of other mmo's
8. Fast Paced Action- Lets face it most mmorpgs combat happens slow and is boring. This is not the case in world of warcraft where combat happens at a nice fast pace, but not so fast that you'll find yourself scrabing to figure out whats going on, but just fast enough to get your heart pumping.
9. Little to no downtime- I play a mage in wow, a class infomous for it's long down time. Now in wow that means maybe a minute out of combat to stock up on mana, in other games it means ten. Heath and mana both regenerate and a nice pace, and there are plent of regents out there to help speed up the process when necesary.
10. Ease of Travel- It is fantasticly easy to get around in wow. If you've played other mmorpgs before one of the things you'll notice in wow is how fast you move compaired to other games. Bsse land speed movenent that is. However if thats to slow for ya at level fourty, if you've got the money or are a warlock or palaidin you can get a mount, which will provide a bonus sixty percent movement speed. In addition to hunters get an ability to help whole party movement speed. Mages can portal players to major cities and warlcoks can actually teleport party member to the rest of the group. Add in a hearthstone that will teleport you back to your home inn and you'll find getting around WOW to be a breeze.
Cons
1. The game is still pretty buggy in some parts. Thing like the combat bug which prevents a player from going out of combat mode has fubared parties of mine in high level instances so bad that we actually ended up having to give up. Or seperating instance raids which can totaly fubar an instance run.
2. The player base does have a high level jerks. Alot of the this can be curbed by switching to a PVE server as they don't attracted as many greavers and even still your going to have to deal with your fair share of childish comments and yell spam. Which can also be curbed by disabling general chat and yell channel, however this is something that you shouldn't have to do in an MMORPG and does bother me. Now don't get me wrong I'm not trying to say that the whole comunity is bad or that the majority are irritating it's just that WOW does tend to have a higher population then lets say EQII which for the most part does have a more mature player base. Pervious two posters excluded.
3. Crafting is almost to easy to accomplish mastery and doesn't provide enough boons when it does. This has caused a crash in the econmey of player based goods. IE it doesn't pay to have a profession infact you loose money doing it.
4. Other than instances, which are FUN, there really isn't any high level content... yet. They do plan on adding battle grounds and a few more instances next patch which should curb this hunger, but a lot of the high end quests are not soloable, and as such you spend a lot of time time as a player grinding. WHich is something I as a player don't find enjoyable expessaly when you have 250,000 exp to get and mobs are only tossing you 300.
5. Not enough classes or races- Four races per side and eight avalible class perside leaves you with simply not enough diversety in the realm of azeroth. Hell you know there is a problem when players are allready with in four months of the release begin whining about needing new classes.
6. Dispite having fixed most of it there still are some lag issues.
In conclusion after reading the pro's and con's you really need to make your own choince. However in this humble writers opinion I say go for it. What do you got to loose other than 50 bucks and your life.
Plus all games come with a free bring a friend 10 day pass, so maybe you can get someone else you know to play as well.
Just one word of advice before I leave you:
Please choose your server carefully pick one to low or highly populated your really not going to have as much fun as one thats more evenly distrubted.
Mr. Vice out
PS: Please excusse my spelling and grammer I don't feel the need to proof read on forums and it's late.
Excellent post MrVice. At the very least I think you should try it out, I personally think it's a great game.
Haha? I basically got to 26 purely by soloing, a small group for a single instance maybe twice, once for 10 minutes in the naga cave at darkshore and once for VanCleef, the rest was solo, the game is easy to solo up to 20, even 26.
Stop dreaming.
Heh, sounds like me playing City of Heroes. I've only grouped when I had to for certain missions, and I solo'd up to level 23+.
Thanks for the long post bud, I think I may try WoW out for once.

i finally gave in a month ago and bought WoW. i was playing EQ2 for a few months but the game is so boring i couldnt take it anymore. i love the pace of WoW. the graphics grow on u, and if u have all the settings cranked it looks really good, cartoony but still good. PvP is alot of fun. rewards or not, kicking other players asses is just too fun.
the way u can use talents to make your character different from someone else of the same class is really cool. (EQ2 talents and traits are a joke).
all in all, i was 100% against WoW in beta. but giving it a second chance without 500 lvl 5s in the same zone, the game is much more fun than any other game out atm, IMO of course.
kind of ironic though,
I went into EQ2 with huge expectations and they were crushed.
I went into WoW with moderate expectations and they were blown away.
WoW is really fun, give it a shot.
WoW - Wrython, lvl 36 Troll Shaman - Elune
EQ2 - Wrython, lvl 32 Erudite Dirge - Befallen (cancelled)

If your already aware of most of the players concerns on the official forums and still interested in trying it then sure, why wouldn't you try it unless paying for the box is a concern.
