Some Questions to Players

I'm looking for a game with a good community and some group content, since that is something the other game I'm currently playing (Darkfall) does not offer. I did try the trial and generally liked Fallen Earth from what I saw.

So, some questions:

1) Is there grouping content?

2)Can I make my living as crafter,or isn't it worth it since everyone can craft?

3)Is leveling easy/a chore?

Thanks for any answers.

    1. There is group content but most of it can be solo'd if you return later

    2. Not sure you can make a living but it certainly helps your progression. If you intend on serious pvp then a toon that is spec'd for higher crafting will be gimped as valuable AP are needed to be spent in intelligence. I am hoping that as the higher levels are added, level cap is expected to rise to 99 I think, crafting will become more specialised and therefore more lucrative.

    3. Levelling is not like other MMO's, I have not needed to grind at anytime, except for faction rating, and have reached the current level cap. Quests seem endless, there is no need to grind mobs and the actual levelling curve/speed stays fairly constant i.e. the higher levels don't take any longer than those below it.

The community is good although outside of clans there is little grouping. There are live GM's 24/7 and also a help channel which is full of players to answer your questions as you play. The learning curve can be a little steep if you are used to being spoon fed but there is a great deal of information accessible in game just type /support to open the knowledgebase, there is also a help guide that explains game mechanics as you go.

This is truly the only game that I didn't feel had a grind.  I don't even usually know - or care - what level I am exactly.

The crafting is interesting and I spend all day scavanging.  I am addicted and if you like crafting and exploring you will likely spend way too much time just wandering around salvaging things to craft with. . . and you ge XP for this and crafting.

I done a few group activities. . I don't think it happens a tonne outside of clans but any time I have wandered into an area that had major questlines or "bosses" I have always had someone to group with if I wanted.

Great community.  I stopped playing for a bit though.  I like the openness but sometimes I feel a bit directionless and like there is no point in logging in.  This is my own fault as I tend to play until I get burned out :)

As a side note I am a Darkfall Vet who plays and likes FE. My only trouble is time between two MMO's.

Please do not respond to me, even if I ask you a question, its rhetorical.

As for group content, it is true you can come back and solo some group content, but at the higher levels, soloing some of the group content is virtually impossible.

You CAN make a living as a crafter, but only at the hgher levels really.. most everyone can craft low level stuff, and most everyone does.  Theres a misconception about crafting alts... most of the crafting alts are created to make ammo and weapons at low levels until people get enough money to buy faction weapons and better.  Leveling a separate crafter at the same time as your main is tough.. so full on crafters are great in the high levels, especially  since you will get recipes through crafting missions that cannot be traded.

Leveling is not tough and not grindy, but don't expect to be level cap in a week.. or two weeks.  or maybe not even a month of solid play.

The progression is crazy, and theres so much to do on your way to 46.. and they plan on raising the cap 4 more levels in the coming month.

  • Hm, thanks for all the answers. I have been hopping between MMOs for quite a while now, never quite finding what I have been looking for. That is why I most of the time play two or three games at once, to not get burned out so fast.

I do love crafting and I love the idea behind Fallen Earth. It's pretty cool to start off basically in rags and work your way up and improve. I can also imagine that I will have a good time looking for mats and generally exploring. And, as long as I don't have to go through repeating content without having anything else to do, I wouldn't mind if leveling took a bit longer, but if it would feel boring (like a chore), then I do mind.

But the question is if I should play if I am looking for a game with good group content. I mean, I have played alone long enough. What do you guys think? Should I just give it a shot or rather not? And is it wise to search for a good guild to play the game with if I want to play with others?

It specifically depends on how you wish to play the game. If you are looking for group content, then there is plenty.  In s1 there are at least 4 towns easy that require grouping if you do them at the appropriate levels.  If you plan on crafting and farming materials, but still want consistent interaction with players, you'll want to join a clan as region is not adequate to carry on long term conversations as traveling outside of region will cut you off.

A good clan will always yield you a group.  In most group oriented towns you'll find groups pretty easily too.  If you like crafting, thats fantastic, but keep in mind at the higher levels, you will seriously have your crafting queue busy for days at a time when building high level armor and vehicles.

Try the free trial, this game isn't for everyone, but those that get into it REALLY get into it.

Totally agree with this. I dont think I have ever played a game where levelling/advancing is less of a chore (except maybe Eve). A lot of times I forget to level alltogether.

The crafting is interesting and I spend all day scavanging.

Scavenging nodes are spread out and easy to find, and they are diverse. I dont think I have seen any scavenging sites that are camped.

I find it hard to believe that you cant make a living crafting. While it is true that the game can be soloed easily, most people will not have the time to spend building all this stuff, especiallly those specced for PvP. Building vehicles is an involved and time consuming process.

Levelling is slowish in this game, which is not bothering me all that much. I am currently level 8 and have been playing a week. Your level mostly determines your current skill cap. And your skills determine what weapons and armor you can use and what crafting recipes you can learn.

From what I have heard, there is no end game content yet. So enjoy the ride.

I do love crafting and I love the idea behind Fallen Earth.

This is the most crafting-friendly game I have played so far. Even moreso than Eve, because you can do most (all?) of it solo. I really love that.

But the question is if I should play if I am looking for a game with good group content.

From what I have seen so far, group content sucks. This game likes solo players. There are group activities, and some missions are hard to solo (even though it is possible). That being said, I have recieved 4 or 5 unsolicited blind Clan invites so far. So there is obviously a demand for grouping, even though its not required to advanced. You will advance faster as a group IMO.

    This.

I did the free trial, and ended up upgrading after the 3rd day. The only annoying part was the steep learning curve (and the in-game docs suck). But the help channel is very helpful. There are GMs in there constantly, and other players will jump to answer questions for you. Every time I asked a question, no matter how stupid, I would get 4 or 5 real answers minimum. And not just sarcastic smartass answers like in Eve, heh heh.

Sector 2 has 2 group instances (around level 25-30) Sunset Hill Crypts and New Flagstaff University.

NFU cannot be soloed, even by a level 46 (max level) the boss is a level 45 Master Boss.

Other that a few other Bosses like El Cadajo in Sector 3 (level 45 group boss) most of it is solo or small group content.

Only grind spot I've seen is from level 30 to level 35 (too high for s2 too low to get quests in s3 faction towns).

Other than that the XP curve is nice.

Crafters make a living?  Yes.   Get 'filthy rich'?  No.

  • Haha, I don't want to become a crafter only because of the money, my question was if they are needed, respected, generally recruited by guilds and fun to play. I might have been a bit vague on that point ^^. I might begin to play Fallen Earth tomorrow, hoping that it will captivate me enough to become my MMO for at least a few months. Thanks for all the answers so far.

  • Update: I'm in the game now. Currently crafting something and waiting for it to complete. I have to say, the beginning always impresses me, finally an actual story that is both good and open. I think I will probably run around and try to gather resources more often than not ^^. I haven't played much yet (first hours in), but my first impression is good. Well, I'll tell everyone about the experiences of my first day (even if no one wants to hear it hehehe) soon.

I'm a new player. I have found the community to be very good. The "Help" channel is one of the best I have seen. GMs are on all the time, and seem to be ready and willing to assist. they even chat!

The game is pretty solo-friendly, but there seems to be a lot of goup content.

Everyone can craft, yet, but only to a point. a full on crafter will be able to access more stuff to make at the higher levels. As far as making any money at it, I can't speak to that. I suspect you can.

Leveling... I don't pay much attention to this honestly. I've been playing for 2 weeks or so, and almost every level I have came as a surprise. There is so much to do, i don't feel like I need to race to the top.

    My 2 chips worth,

    Best of luck to you.

Grouping hmmmmm low on games priority at present will prob change.

Crafting very useful make lots of money mmmmm not at present.

Help/community ... one of the better communities as its full of hardcore players who are still playing other MMO's and have lots of experience. GM's best on net.

Levelling ...no grind at all levelling is never an issue.
