Dosen't sound like a 'hands on experience' from what I am reading? Sounds like a dog and pony demo. If it was (hands on) I'd have liked to read something about that experience, it would have been good to get some new information about how the game 'feels'.
Well hands on experience could be provided only by Beta testers. And trust me no beta tester would be dumb enough to talk about APB, RTW(Realtime world) have really strict NDA, strict enough that you are not even supposed to tell others you are beta tester, as if you would tell somebody and they found out, youre permanently removed from beta testing.
No. He's press. That's an altogether different proposition. If you read it he talks in the 3rd person about the game, or more commonly about what he was told about it. Just a deceptive heading to the piece. It should have been introduce in the same way as Dave Jones piece was last week as an interview/demo. Another thing with hands on is the reporter sits down and does as he pleases, might be quite a limited subset of the game or even a single area but the reviewer determines direction. The way the piece reads is as a 'dog and pony'... a representative of the company presents the game while a sidekick moves a character round the world. Obviously in this case 'direction' is determined by the company presenting the game.
If it was 'hands on' as the title claims it was a wasted opportunity to describe how the game plays rather than a list of features (that have largely been reported
Occaisionally press are also restricted by NDA but normally this would be stated in the piece. Anyway still reads like it was a demo.
I should add that the game is on my radar which is why I am keen for info on it
Shame Global Agenda is rather shallow and repetitive, I hope it dosen't go the way of Fury before they add some more stuff to do. I think there is a niche for this style of game. Mind you I was one of the few that logged into Dungeon Runners every now and then.
The art is to make it simple and engaging to jump in and start blasting but have enough depth to keep you coming back for more and to satisfy the longer term sense of achievement.
I watched a very long video that a guy posted without showing his name for a while and caught a lot that was in the game. I wont discuss a lot of it here but one thing is they're serious about fast-paced combat as you flow in and out of combat very fast.
Roleplaying from the looks of it is on the low-side which was a bit of a "downer" for me. However reading different things about APB there will be a nice gang-like "guild" system which could possible get some roleplaying in. I looked on the forums a few times and there is roleplaying gangs going up so I have a feeling the game will have more despite their intention.
I'd like to say that a lot of what you see is true. The game in a lot of ways is quite successful. One problem with the game though is the reward for being good and doing well. You basically don't progress in the game beyond a days work, you just get stars and get missions against you for a while till you get knocked down. I'm not entirely a power-hungry person but I'm sure anyone would like something more then a slap in the face.
But all-in-all keep in mind, the game has been in dev. for an extremely long time and has been pushed back several times for more testing, more updates, more content.
I had great hopes for this game when I first saw it. Wonderful concept and gaming idea. It now seems the game has turned out to be a "shooter" with instances. I'm not interested in another 'shooter' game and I've been recently in too many games with nothing but instances. I think I may pass on this game until reviews are in from the commercial release. WoW anyone?
Either I'm an idiot and you're being sarcastic, or you are wanting to play the most instance-heavy endgame on the market.
APB is open-world (with a 100 player max per open world instance, to keep it from being laggy). There are no stupid dungeons or anything, ala City of Heroes or similar games.

Yeah, would have been nice to have like a Saints Row or San Andreas neighborhood turf system in the least, but nope just seems to be shooter combat. As a GTA/Saints Row fan, I ain't interested in this. And if GTA/Saints Row fans ain't interested in it, then who the hell is your target audience? Oh that's right, the people who want to dress up their toons and detail their cars...
Sorry I am so critical, but all I wanted was GTA-Online and instead we get this.

wha wha what? Open world instances? isn't that an oxymoron, like jumbo shrimp? I think Cryptic tried to pull that slight-of-hand with STO, and it didn't go over too well.
In any event, I'm gonna give this game a spin, but if it does turn out to be nothing more than a rudimentary third-person rotating map shooter like Global Agenda, welcome the mediocrity,
Striving for Silver Stars since Gold is so effeminate.
If you are interested in this I recommend you go and watch all podcasts they release. The info there is accurate.
If I can I will give this a try, at least its not a Asian F2P or a WoW clone.
maybe they did play it, i know i did last night... although i can't comment on much because of the NDA, needs a lot of wrinkling out though..

It has a very long way to go they need another good year but are launching it soon...a GTA type game just dosen't transpose as well as you might think to a MMO.
I don't know of any that have been made so I wonder what makes you so certain maybe it translates much better than you think it would, works both ways. considering the guy making this one helped make GTA I'm going to give him the benefit of the doubt and give it a go atleast, it fits well within an alternative mmo setting for me since I have no interest in alot of the other genres that are tackled or planned to be delved into like horror.
but yeah, to call this game Fantastic is like calling Twilight the Godfather of vampire movies....

Legends live on forever.
I'm kind of worried about faction balance. As soon as one side is shown to be more powerful all of the FOTMers will be flocking to that side...
Considering the battles are 20vs20 max I doubt that will me such a huge problem.
