It looks like you're new here. If you want to get involved, click one of these buttons!
here are some things that have REALLY been bugging me about these forums:
-shift clicking on a thread or forum to open a new window does not work properly, it will open the thread in the current window as WELL as the new one. in fact it seems that anywhere i click, even if i don't mouse over a link it will load some new page i didn't want it to. way too sensitive.
-scroll mouse button cannot be used on post/text area, when i click it does not enable me to scroll. it will only work when i click on the side
-links in the top of the browser often cannot be bookmarked or sent because they appear to operate on cookies and therefore cannot distinguish what window is open or how many i have open. this causes all sorts bizarre problems such as the wrong thread opening up, being unable to get to a main forum, and even entire posts disappearing when i click post message when i have multiple windows open.
-and worst of all, the white text on black background is so painful to read it creates a sharp contrast that burns a negative image in my eyes that lasts for half an hour after reading anything on here. perhaps a light grey/blue behind black writing in keeping with the website style - ANYTHING where the background colour is lighter than the text. in fact this is such a huge complaint i have to type every single post in a word document, including this one.
i suggest using something universally familiar like vbulletin.

I got 2 words for you. Mozilla Firefox. Shift clicking in my browser (Firefox) DOES work, so just download that browser and if ya ask me half of your probs are solved. vBulletin is a good forum, but would eat up the mySQL databases needed for all these forums. And with the post-disappearing problem, just hit "back" with your browser (does not work on all browsers) or select it and copy it before you post.
probably related to the cookies based navigation.
another annoyance is that the window titles do not display the titles of the thread like most forums do, so i don't know which window is which.
oh god, just look at 1 forum at a time, then you won't be confused. And WTH is wrong with the white on black colour
what if i want several open so i don't forget about them later, or need to refer back to one another and copy quotes from them?
the white on black is one of the most unconfortable text formats as it leaves sharp negatives on the eyes when reading it for any longer than a few minutes.

Now that you mention it, I do agree. I sometimes highlight the text just because my eyes get tired and can't read line by line correctly (skip a line, read the same line etc..).
the problem is the eyes adjust to the main colour (the black background), so reading the white text (which is now bright in comparison) is like reading letters made out of sunlight.

View->Text Size->Increase or Crtrl++ I've never had a problem reading these forums, sober or not. I think these forums have one of the most unique looks to them of any forum on the net. I think ur doing a great job admins keep up the good work.
i shouldn't have to download and learn a new browser, increase my text size for every page, and still only be able to use one window at a time just to use these forums.
there is still the problem with cookie navigation. it doesn't know what page each window is open on and entire typed up posts can disappear.
what i said about the eye adapting to the black background is fact. it makes the eyes more sensitive to the dark so the white looks very bright bright and hard to read and leaves a "floater".
Well white is the default color which you can't change the theme of this forum like most but as for firefox i suggest get not for the reasons posted it is a damn good browser a whole lot less secruities holes than IE and viruses/hacked way less
i'm using winxp SP2 on a brand new machine i built myself, with no browser "addons" installed.
"Works fine for me..Quit using IE..oh wait nm It works for me in IE on my work computer too..so that rules that out..Must be your computer.."
so shift clicking a thread does not open it up in both windows for you? do you have javascript on?
"Again, this feature works just fine for me on both IE and mozilla..So I have no idea what you are talking about unless you have some pos prefab computer loaded with bs software like comet cursor, which does generally screw crap like that up."
i'm talking about actually clicking the middle mouse on the text, not scrolling it. some websites do it, some don't, and this happens to be one of them. it's the same as when you try to scroll click on a flash animation. certain content simply does not allow scroll clicking.
"Cry me a river, Get eye glasses. Forums that use lesser contrasting stupid colors like grey/black are irritating. Keep it black or white. If you are getting a "negative" image burned in your eyes as you put it, you seriously need to see an eye doctor. Or here is another novel Idea..TURN YOUR BRIGHTNESS DOWN...wow never would have thought of that.. I swear you have to the be the first person I have ever heard whine about a black forum with white text. My guess is its not a contrast based off how bright you described it, hence the brightness comment. I am betting your brightness and contrast ratio's on your monitor are Way off."
i already explained that, and it happens to anyone whose eyes function normally. no i will not turn down my brightness because then i won't be able to see anything ELSE properly, and that still doesn't change the fact that it is white on black.
"vbulletin sucks. who cares about familiarity, this is not an old person forum. it caters mostly to young to middle age gamers. I being 26 consider functionality far greater then familiarity, as I would rather change for better features then be stuck in the same rut of the same redundent crap for 20 years just because its what i know."
last i checked vb has all the features this board has and more...
Except this feautre Dekoth agreed on, I have no trouble at all (Mozilla Fireworks) Dekoth says they're ok for IE as well, you'd better check your settings mate

1. Forum colours are not that easily adjusted. It has to fit all the other colours of the site. The background should definitely stay black, because the rest of the site matches that. I can't imagine seeing the staff changing their CSS style sheet just because some visitor doesn't like the colours. The colour that best fits black is white or blue, but you see blue all over the net. White on black is simple, but it stays the best to use here. I never had any problems reading the white on the black, but I must admit I can imagine some people have troubles with it. But just try to change the brightness of your monitor, cause it will probably be just that that is to high.
2. vBulletin costs money to use legally, and a forum like this cannot afford using an illegal copy. And IMO IPB is still better than vBulleting, but that's just a matter of opinion. But I like this forum as it is, it's well integrated in the site, the colours fit the rest. These forums are also unique on the net, I have never seen any forum that resembles this one, and that is because I think they are created by the MMORPG staff. Let me inform you now that making a forum is not an easy task, especially with the options we have here. I tried it myself once, and the number of of codes you need is endless. I think we should respect the MMORPG staff instead of criticising them.
3. Like *I forgot his name* said, Firefox is a good browser and better than IE on almost all properties. You can easily brows without having the "favorites" bar, because you have some bookmarks in a special toolbar. You can also easily watch your other bookmarks and it has more options as well. Just try it out, if it wouldn't be as you want it to be just go back to IE.
That's about it
Funny, works fine for me as well, I'll have to second the "check your computer" motion and rule this issue closed. Thank you, have a good day, free punch and pie by the door on your way out.
