Ige trying to buy Vanguard community sites

Probably old news for some, but I picked up this from gucomics http://forums.gucomics.com/viewtopic.php?t=6470#6470

Here is link to vanguard boards about it http://www.vanguardsoh.com/forums/showthread.php?postid=185209#post185209 They trying to buy their way to community...

I wonder if they have made offer for mmorpg.com yet as I bet this site generates a lot of unique hits? Does mmorg.com still host their ads?

I saw an IGE ad here on MMORPG.com not more than 10 minutes ago, so unless there has been a rapid policy change ::::02::

I expected as much from IGE - I had prior knowledge that this was happeneing with at least one fansite I frequent (they have a Vanguard portal, in amongst some others) and for small labours of love, that is a lot of money to be offered.

I sincerely hope that the majority of those who are offered this money refuse and continue to run the sites on the basis on which they were started.

Yeah I got the ad now too...

Maybe if they removed these ads here other mmorpgs could support this site more. I read that soh for example have very strict policy to not support any fan site that have ads to ige.

They are buying much more than that.

They own mmorpg.net as well all of a sudden ::::05::

Another post on this General Discussion was lameting the fact about kids destroying MMOs.

However I think the greatest danger to MMOs are places like IGE that buy and sell items, accounts and so forth.

I realize not everyone agrees but IMHO they are the greatest danger to MMOs.

As more and more people start playing MMOs and the population of real game players get diluted there is going to be a greater demand for easy access to the more powerful items.  This is a trend that I have noticed as more of the general population gets into games.

Another trend I noticed is how much easier the newer games are.  WOW is a joke and EQII is being dumbed down to appeal to the masses.  I cant really blame Blizzard or SOE however because they want to make money so they have to appeal the largest number of people.

Oh well I can see a hard road ahead for people that want a little challenge in their games.

Dont want to start a flame war but this is just my opinion.

i dont see how trading acounts and buying/selling items on a website are such a thread. its not like they are hunting you daown and forcing you to join their site

Ok here is a new concept for you....

How about earning what you get.

If you cant see how that cheapens a game then nothing I can say will convince you.

FYI - This site is not owned by IGE image

They buy ad space from us but that is as far as it goes.  We stand 100% neutral on the topic of item/currency trading and those that partake in it.

Yeah, but I was asking if Ige had made any offers to buy this site. I would be suprised if they havent as someone mentioned they already own mmorpg.net

No offers have been made - and I doubt they would be willing to pay the amount that I would sell this site for...cause it would need to retire me for life image

I believe they bought .NET in the same package as OGaming.com - as I know that OGaming previously owned .NET.

I never even knew that there was a MMORPG.net. But who cares if we got this site, right? ::::02::

Anyways I'm glad to hear that you don't have any intention of selling out to IGE. What they did to get back at Sigil for their comment about 2nd party companies was wrong and low. Sucks that they went for all those fansites just to hurt Vanguard.

I thought this site stoped selling ad space to IGE. I was very disappointed when I saw ige ads in this site. In other posts me and few other people told they were not coming back here as long you would sell IGE ad space. Imo it's an ethic choice to allow them to show up or not. Sure hiding ige wont "kill" them but it's a good start.

my 2cents (lol, that takes a whole other meaning when talking about those son %µ^ù@)
