Meh I kind of agree with him about the customer/merchant side of things. Square does have a tendency to ignore the heck out of people and they take forever in getting around to doing things game wise. But it doesn't bother me enough to blog about it, or to look at the game in a negative light lol...
Same goes for the Japanese bias/advantage the games usually hold, I've just come to expect it. It doesn't bother me though, I could care less how other people are progressing, I'm just there to have fun.
I just hate the fact he thinks because it is more suited for the console that it is a bad thing. The only positives of a pc is better graphics and voice chat. I said I was going to play thi siont he pc but I decided to go on the ps3 for serveral reasons...
1. More comfortable playing on a console
2. UI is much easier on a console for this game. The graphics on the console will be nice but gameplay matters most.
3. More stable on a console because there is less issues to deal with playing on a console compared to the pc. I love my pc but not for this game. I'll have GW2 and SWTOR for my pc.

Yeah, I'm sure it'll be mostly optimized for the console, as it seems FFXI was. Hope it's not too bad though, don't have a PS3 and don't feel like buying 1 just for this xD
There's only 1 part of that article that I agree with, at the very end, when he says that "we need to temper our expectations just a wee bit from time to time."
I think it would be good for everyone to remember that FFXIV is pretty much just a sequel to FFXI and not to expect an entirely different game.
In my opinion if you liked FFXI you might like FFXIV too (there are some pretty big changes)... but if you didn't like the first you're probably not going to like the second.
"There is as yet insufficient data for a meaningful answer."
It pains me to see people judge a game before its out.
He complains about the developers being quiet. Of course they should be quiet do you want them to make a lot of promises they can't keep and then people bitch about why they didn't keep their promise. Best way is to keep silent til you are %100 sure. Look at AoC(last pay MMO I played) before launch they were throwing out DX10 this and Mammoth/Rhino mounts at launch. When the game launched look what happen no DX10 and the only way to get those mounts were to preorder the game. Don't get me wrong I think the dev's should comment on the game from time to time but they can't be there 24/7 that's the job for the community rep.
How can he comment on world size and endgame with a brand new game that isn't even out yet. Most MMO's at launch will not have a big end game they will wait til the 1st of 2nd expansion. From what I read FFXI did not have an end game when it first launched, I started on PS2 NA release with Rise of the Zilart which had end game and also its first expansion. Also funny how he compared endgame with XI. Of course XI has more end game because its been out for 8 years and XIV been out for how long, oh wait it isn't out yet. I agree that people will rush to end because they do it in every MMO I've played. If they do in XIV like they did XI and raise the cap on the next expansion it will be ok.
His comment on console is solely his opinion and to each his own. I personally think it will be equal ground with the controls since on the PS3 it will have mouse support. I hate to admit but I agree with him on his last statement "But we need to temper our expectations just a wee bit from time to time."
I can't believe how bad this article is. And it's not the first article that sucks. Most of them do.
It's full of cynical anti-SE jibberish that doesn't even make sense 80% of the time.
BUT LOOK AT STAR WARS: THE OLD REPUBLIC! THIS GAME WILL BE AMAZING, AND WE HERE AT MASSIVELY ARE SURE TO BE JIZZING ALL OVER THE GAME ALONG WITH YOU READERS!
Using LOL is like saying "my argument sucks but I still want to disagree".
It's funny, most of the things he picks up on are the reasons why I loved FFXI over all the other MMOs out there. I'd rather a dev team stay silent and stick to their plans than change their entire design direction every couple of months to suit the community. I also loved the fact that no one really knew how the mechanics worked, it drew the community together to try and figure things out and it meant that players had to actually teach each other.
Hell there are a lot of things that people still aren't entirely certain about and that sense of mystery is great in an MMO. Knowing how finite the world around you is can ruin the immersion; having things that aren't entirely understood or not fully explained adds a massive amount of realism to the game. Also when players know exactly how things work they suddenly stop playing the game and, instead, start working the system. It's far far far better for players not to know everything in an MMO, it makes the world feel 'bigger' and the game more fun.
The console point isn't really a valid concern since FFXI was made exclusively for the PS2 originally; the PC port came later and this is why the controls and UI are poor. FFXIV is being made for both PC and PS3, and judging by the fact that the PC beta starts first I'd say there's more of a focus on the PC this time around.
The rest of his comments are universal issues that apply to all MMOs and are pretty irrelevant since everyone is well aware of them.
Have a console and PC , you can run mule on console, main w/ PC and still be able to use controller, and switch back and forth vica versa... for whatever you are doing at that moment.
I agree on points where others' say he "doggs" the console. I started on ps2 and then switched to pc, and had both and experienced both, so why not just have both of best worlds.
I do however, like his points on character evolution, and how some classes will emerge as "OP" as enough time goes by and elite folks start setting the standard cookie cutter pattern of build for each classes. His argument is that we are "playing it blind", (and he see's this as a bad thing from what I have read) unlike the NA launch of xi, where the Japanese domestic market have had a one years head start...

I couldn't agree more with you Alberel -that is why I loved FFXI as well and the reason I don't enjoy WoW as much as FFXI. WoW feels very scripted and new dungeons, bosses, armor, quests, etc...(you name it) , is all given away before patches even hit... everything in the world is instanced and zones are worthless as soon as you "lvl" out of them... Every zone in FFXI had dangerous aspects to them and high level areas that made them relevant for everyone.... PLus, the game had a great sense of exploration. Keep an aura of mystery as a core aspect of FF14, please.
Think you guys might've missed much of the point of the article. The author is very excited about FFXIV; this article looks like a change of pace where he reigns in his enthusiasm with a reality check about things that are sure to be disappointing/frustrating to everyone who thinks S-E can do no wrong. His article from the previous week about all the fantastic things about FFXI helps put this article in context.

The positive is the mouse/keyboard soemthing consoles do not utilize. In a console setup you have to waste time wading through menus/options/scrolling.On the PC keyboard/mouse you just hit the macro and your done.
The console game is actually going to have more stability issues because of less available bandwidth. My guess is the consoles will not be playing with anymore than 30fps,so if anything you are going to at somepoint experience more hitching than the PC user.
The only thing i like about a console is sitting on the couch relaxing to playing on the TV.However memorizing all those L1/R1/L2/R2/triangle/square ect ect is annoying,i enjoyed the simplicity of a simple alt+ or cntrl+ that is only two buttons to worry about.Chatting?how do you chat on a console?you have to drop your controller to grab a keyboard ,where as PC players are already on the keyboard.
Never forget 3 mile Island and never trust a government official or company spokesman.

So you don't have to memorize all the alt+ ctrl+ commands? That makes absolutely no sense. There's dozen times more commands to memorize, simply because you Don't have menus/options/scrolling to go through.
Every USB keyboard & mouse works on the PS3, fyi.
It's simply a cheaper choice if you can't afford a good PC. Instead of playing the game on a shitty PC, you can play it on a console instead. That's the main benefit, and big one at that.

Just sounds like a giant troll/rant to me, if i am to be honest.
Half of what he thinks is negative actually isnt., and the other half is just pure speculation.
