can one get used to first player view?

I've been playing the beta a bit on and off, have been lucky I guess, since I didn't encounter too many bugs or instability as of yet. I also don't have a problem with the sandbox concept and no quests, etc, but what does get to me is the first person view constantly. in DF at least when you are in combat or harvest or rest, you get to see your toon.

I know this might sound odd to be bothered by this, but every MMO to date I played you see your toon which you created paying more or less attention to details. But maybe one can get used to it? Or?

You are used to not seeing your toon in real life, i dont see why you wouldnt get used to not see your toon in a game...

I've gotten used to the 3rd Person View in games today so you could probably get used to first person aswell.

well, when I play FPS games, I play them for a while, not careing what I look like in them. But that I play perhaps 20-40 h? An MMO though will be 80+++, depending if I stick with them or not.

If RL reasoning would work that easily, you wouldn't have people asking ingame "can I switch to 3rd pv?". But that is just a guess o/c.

Ah well, it is just to continue and see if I can live with it.

It took me a while to get used to FP but you get to the point when it is fine.

Also, try to think that not only you are in FPV it is obvious but for the ones like us that are used to 3rd person view is difficult to understand that if we see someone that does not means the other are seeing us :D

At first I really wanted the option. . but after only a few days . . especially when I let myself get lost. . (well I guess I technically did get lost) in the game I found the first person perspective to be very immersive. . . the time I disliked it the most was when I looked down while riding my horse.  I had lost my clothes previously.  That bit. . er bits. . less immersive :)

Real life analogies never work well when it comes to a video game.

And getting used to the PoV is the last problem this game has.

     lol, indeed.

it will take some getting used to it but that in itself would make it different from 99% of other mmos out there, and therfore interesting. i would personaly like at least on option to switch to 3rd person but i agree that it would make the game different since first person view you can't see behind you.

i do belive you can go to 3rd person view when you leave your char inactive for a wile.

In real life you have peripheral vision. First person in video games you don't.

Having third person in a video game gives you the field of view of peripheral vision, besides being able to see slightly behind yourself of course.

Either option is going to be a compromise, for the reasons listed above.  Neither is completely "realistic".

As far as getting used to FPV, it took me a little while, but I'm fine with it now.
