My first 15 minutes in MO

2can2can Member Posts: 57

So after countless patches I was finally rewarded with my game client being up to date! Yay!

So. I go on and create my first character, and leave to watch March Madness..

Here I am, thinking im loading into the game...but noo, 30 min later its stuck on the infamous spinning sword.

I then create my second hideous player, which is also annoyingly naked, because the failed log in erased it...

Rebooted MO, this time the log in was a success, load in takes less than 2 min

Log in, see a dude in front me, smack him with my fists, he turns and 1 shot kills me with his sword for 400 damage ( I had 64 hitpoints). Well, i find myself walking around in game still with a water effect, and grey color pallette. I read up in the ingame help tab, and find out i need a priest. (WoW anyone? Sorry just had to) Well, being the carebear i am i choose to teleport to the nearest priest.....only to find myself load in underneath the world...stuck in some rocks. But, lo and behold, 20 feet and some distance beside me floats a priest...

So here I am

Only thing in game that does 400 damage is the guards.  You attacked a player and got killed. Lol.

You attacked another player in town, he called the guard and the guard splatted you. Why did you attack the first player you saw? Also there's a priest close by in town you'll just have to wait to go blue again. You'll need to send in a ticket to get unstuck or just re roll.

Hmm I think you almost mentioned everything that is used in the typical bash MO posts. You forgot a few, maybe a thief stole from you right before you nowgame.exe?

Dont forget the obligatory Dancing Banana!!

Dude why would you even think to attack the first player you see, and why in town ? You deserve everything you got, probably more. Also they got their death idea of turning to a spirit and going to a priest to get a  rez  from UO , you know the place WoW got their idea from, like the many other mmorpgs they tried to emulate ( sorry just had to). Why dont you learn a little bit about how things work before making rediculous posts.

This did make me laugh pretty good though.

My 15 minutes were even worse. The most short lived MMO on my HDD EVAR!

  • Good job bashing the OP. Show the world what mature players Mortal Online has image

To the OP: Attacking any player after you just started is a bad idea in any MMO. However, I can understand that you just wanted to explore the PvP content, but then, you should have known that you would get killed for sure.

I too did the same thing my first 15 minutes JUST to see what the outcome would be. I wasn't mad. But the next 2 hours of gameplay would be an even more frustrating experience. After finally understanding how things work I have now ventured out, killed "higher level"  "mobs" and reaped in more cash. Now, my character sits in a place I cannot free myself from. Figure I would try a /stuck /unstuck command to find nothing. I was about to suicide when I thought to myself..."if I have to suicide for getting stuck in someplace I should not be stuck in while exploring an "open world" I might as well give this up now."

I have been playing MO pretty addictive until today, when everything finally hit me. There really is nothing more to do other then farm mobs for crap, harvest trees or stone, craft items that have no stat value or cash value or randomly attack other players.

Hopefully there are enough people to buy and sub to this game for those features to keep the game going, but something tells me not to many people will find this fun after the first month.

How does this vary from other MMO?  Aside from quests in which an Npc tells you which mobs to farm, which trees to harvest,or what items to craft. Items have plenty of stat value (weight, damage, durability), they just don't automagically alter your stats.

Other MMOs might not have a larget set of actions to perform, but the point is that there is a reason why you're doing it. There's a goal to achieve. Take EvE for example, there isn't much more than that to do. But, take PVP and say to any EvE player that what he's doing is "randomly shooting other ships". Watch as you get laughed out of the room. Whereas in MO, the players themselves admit that there is no driving goial behind it other than what you set for yourself.

But it's hardcore! It's sandbox! You create your own goals! Sure, whatever floats your boat, go for it. I'm just saying sandbox does not mean lack of goals.

The difference though is that other MMOs don't get these kind of complaints very much, while with MO it's a running theme.

The problem with MO is the complete lack of content to provide a goal for the player. In WoW you want to hit a higher level to do a tougher dungeon, or get better gear for a tougher raid instance, or get better skills and equipment to make the most of nullsec space in EvE. In Mortal Online, once you max out your stats you'll be doing the exact same stuff you were doing at the start of the game, whether it's crafting or beating up other players. Sure, you'll be better at it, but there's no change of scenery so to speak. Just the same stuff you were doing before.

The vast empty world means that guilds have little reason to fight over territory. You plonk down your keep and a few houses and then what? I suppose you could go knock down the guild next door, but to what end? Eve at least provides lucrative reasons for a corporation to declare war on another.

I can usually play an MMO for a month before I start to lose that "new game feeling". MO hit me in a few days. I'm not sure what stats your referring to but no weapon I have come across so far had any type of damage stat. When moused over I got weight, and durability.  I don't care if a new sword has "+10 str" or not, but  some sort of damage increase would have been great.

The point is its going for realism. My guild and I have sat around and crafted tons of different weapon combos and tested them over an over. The same goes with armor. The only way you will know what damage it does is if you test it. The type of material you use effects the damage as well as head type , grip, and handle type. Test them for yourself and find out what works best.

Also the amount of damage you take or if you hit a person solely depends on what part of the body you hit them and if they blocked with a shield or what not. The weight has a big factor in damage as well. Although heavier weapons would do more damage, it'll drain more stamina from you and take you longer to recover.
