Many people think a WoW clone is pretty much running around an open world while excessively hitting jump to entertain yourself, and a skill bar, one of the biggest parts of a "WoW Clone" (Actually EQ2 Clone but more have played WoW then anything else) Thats where Guild wars is interesting. Its not spamming 1,2,3 like EQ2 clones but with more skills as you level, Guild wars is tactical with the skill bar, its not a talent tree or something that defines your build, its your skillset mainly (and your attributes fit accordingly to your skills) This I hope they keep more than anything in Guild wars 2, without that part, then its another generic over-hyped MMO that has no innovation. The skill bar made Guild wars, your build, your gameplay, and tactics, without this, then yes, is will be a "WoW clone" but i sure hope not
Skill bars are not unique to WoW, or EQ2...
And no, called WoW an open world? lmfao.
WoW clones are generally... linear worlds that funnel players, TONS of instances, quest based leveling mechanic, end game is all about getting gear and having the level cap raised with no meaningful PvP, crafting, or other objectives. And the biggest symptom of a WoW clone, everything is so simple and easy that you couldn't possibly ever mess up, they pile rewards onto you to keep you happy, make sure you never get frustrated and if you somehow do mess up, there's no penalty.
When I ment open world, I ment not Guild Wars, where you only see people in towns, and I know thats how WoW has become, you barely see anyone unless in towns, and also, who said WoW or EQ2 made/are unique to the skill bar? You make assumptions quick I see, I just said thats a generic WoW/EQ2 Clone
MMOs played: Too many Watch List: FFXIV, CoH:GR, GW2, SWTOR, TERA, Earthrise
I think it is something new but it semans alot like WOW. What do other people think about GW2 so far.
is it WOW clone or Diffirent in a a lot of ways.
While Guild Wars had some similarities to WoW in the sense of, over use of instances and focus on soloability instead of virtual world, the POINT of the game was entirely different, and rather refreshing.
GW2 is starting to look like a different animal, no exclamation point quests (THANK FREAKING GOD, one of the most ANNOYING things to come out of WoW), a wide open seamless world (haven't heard if there will be instances or not, hopefully no) . Seems they're actually trying to do something new and untested, which WoW NEVER has.
I think Anet has already suggested that it will have instances: Missions and PvP. -You know... the good stuff.

Uhhh..... First.... to answer your "Question" No I do not believe this will be anything close to World of Warcraft.
I also have a question for you, Have you ever played GW? I believe WOW is the clone in this case buddy... World of warcraft quite a few years after GW's release made an "ARENA" Pvp. Im pretty positive that GW was the first to successfully do Arena style MMO PVP So, No. I really hate the term WoW clone aswell, everyone swears World of Warcraft is the best game ever created when I can honestly say I enjoyed Runescape more than World of warcraft. Also I hate "Level Grinders" Guild wars has a very low Level cap but it requires that you do alot of killing purely to get good loot which in a way is SORT OF like wow but the looting generally is for "rare" skills used for different classes, and things that bonus your armor with different stats ( Cant remember the techniqal name havent played GW in a while think they are tomes ) I personally made a mistake by getting WoW and other new MMOs that looked good instead of just buying Guild wars and it's expansion packs. I think I will just wait for GW2 though instead of buying all of the expansions etc. now. I am very much so looking forward to the release of this game and I really wish that everyone would look at the game's features etc. or the previous game's features etc. before calling a great game like this a "WoW" Clone. What ever that even means...
Uhhh..... Im just gonna go ahead and say with out reading anyones posts, and start with World of Warcraft if i remember correctly released AFTER Guild wars 1 so really I dont care what they do, They cant be a clone if they were in the market before wow even entered the playing field, and as for your "Question" No I do not believe this will be anything close to World of Warcraft.
World of Warcraft: announced on September 2001, released on November 2004.
Guild Wars: announced on April 2003, released on April 2005. ArenaNet formed on the Spring of 2000, so that's probably roughly when the development actually started (it's their only game).
Their release dates are too close for one to have cloned the other although some of the developers of Guild Wars were early developers from World of Warcraft and Blizzard that left way before release.
Too early to know about the gameplay, UI, leveling systems and any other details of Guild Wars 2, which I am VERY curious as much as everyone else that played and enjoyed GW1 is.
From the early reports it actually does look like the game is being WoWified in that they are adding persistant zones and increasing the level cap.
As long as they keep the skill bar, secondary class system and pvp characters then I don't see this as a bd thing. They are basically improving the PVE portion of the game, which many people have criticized, and hopefully keeping the pvp elements that made GW1 the best area pvp game in the genre.
Wowified is such an overused term, yes it will probably have mmo aspects that are similar to WoW, as many other games have (even those who came before that game).
And who knows, it might even take some of the same design directions as WoW (aka, making it accesible and solo friendly).
That doesn't make it a clone of anything.
So far the artwork at least, seems to be rather unique for a western mmo, I like the mix with some eastern elements.
Feel free to use my referral link for SW:TOR if you want to test out the game. You'll get some special unlocks!
I think it is something new but it semans alot like WOW. What do other people think about GW2 so far.
is it WOW clone or Diffirent in a a lot of ways.
Never heard such a BS in 20 words post. GW HAS NOTHING TO DO WITH WOW. Just buy the whole pack for round 30 euros play the game for a week or two and then think again if it has ANYTHING to do with WoW. So far no one can tell anything about GW2.
From what i've gleaned ArenaNet are making GW2 "more like an MMO in the traditional sense" with less use of instances and more use of open world area's where people can play together.
The use of instances (hosting by players) in GW1 is how they get around needing power-house servers and alowing it to have "no monthly fee's"
So the new version of GW suggests this may change.. but they are still using a business model based on a "no monthly fee's" structure. This we assume means more cash shop kind of features or may more small expansions which was GW original intention.
I think this is where people might be thinking GW2 will be a Wow-styled-mmo, but as we know Arenanet dont do things the way everyone else does, they try to stay unique and their "no monthly subscription" structure of GW1 is arguably what made it so successfull.
Of course much of this is still speculation, the instanced way of GW1 is now old and has obvious down sides, personally the only way I'll ever buy GW2 is if it IS more like an MMO in the traditional sense... but I'd definatly go for it if it was more like DDO.
I hate "WoWClone". It's so overused its not even funny. WoW basically copied EQ2 if I'm not mistaken, all they did was improve on EQ2. But, idk, never played WoW too much.
But, even though ANet plans on making GW2 a more traditional MMO, doesn't mean it will "clone WoW". For christ sakes there isn't even going to be actual quests, its going to be replaced by an event system (which sounds epic tbh). There is going to explorable water which won't have a lot of limitations, which I've never heard a MMO do sucessfully. And hopefully there won't be a skilltree and "can't rerole attributes". As far as I'm concerned the only thing GW2 will have in common with WoW is open world, solo friendly, and certain areas instanced...
I fail to see where GW2 will be a "WoWClone".

Guildwars 1 doesnt seem to be anything like a WOW clone to me . .. only 8 spells brought into the battle. No grind and immediate PVP. Hopefully GW2 sticks along these guidelines.

1. As far as PVP is concerned, WOW is tried to clone GW not the other way around.
2. GW is no grind, no equipment centric, but rather skill based (almost balanced) instance PVP. That is 180 degrees fro WOW.
3. GW PVE also took a unique approch.
I assume GW2 will follow those lines that made GW what it was.

Guild Wars 2 will have no colored exclamations points or question marks above npcs heads for quests.
Guild Wars 2 will have an event system.
Guild Wars 2 will have underwater content like dungeons.
Guild Wars 2 like the original will be mission based and not quest grinding all day like other mmos.
These are just 4 good reasons why Guild Wars 2 will not be like other mmos including WoW.
