Trial Isle, what happened to all the cool spells???

ValhalidValhalid Member UncommonPosts: 25

Hey, quick background, played an enchanter in EQ 1 as main after trying several other classes. Hit top levels and got bored, started playing other MMORPGs.

Have checked about EQ2 since release but noticed allot of my more fav spells didnt exist in EQ2 so never went and bought it.

The whole issue with illusions and transformations in EQ was some sort of global file size restrictions. Well it seams they solved that by elminating the ability? Anyone know anything else about this? If they ever plan to bring the illusions, etc back?

Charms, aka mind controls were always a big issue in EQ because MOBs were way over powered compared to the players in order to support the whole grouping thing. It looks like they elminated this issue as well. Anyone know if they are ever planning on adding it back in?

Thanks in advanced for your answers/feedback

Thats cool I appreciate the response.

I understand the whole level 6 stuck on the isle thing.

What I was referring to was the spell listings and the fact that none of them identified any illusions. The ones I could find indicated that they gave others see invisible, but they dont transform the caster or alter their appearance from one thing into another. If you are familiar with EQ 1, the enchanters could cast all of the racial illusions which made them appear as trolls, humans, etc etc. They also had the ability to make themselves appear as a chair, tent, bed, pretty much any near by small item. Druids could turn into trees and wolves. From the spell listing I didnt see anything like this..

In regards to mezzing, that pretty much makes the target sit in one place unless attacked. What I was talking about was 'charming' kind of like mind control in which you have a chance to 'charm' a Monster/npc/mob making it your pet to command like any other pet except that the 'charm' only lasts so long. Again I did not see any of these type of spells in game.

They come later in the game. You become an enchanter at lvl 10 (if thats your path). A list of spells gained up to 20 for that class here: http://eq2.ogaming.com/db/list/abilities_enchanter.php

At 20 you get another choice, and can chose the path of Illusioner: http://eq2.ogaming.com/db/list/abilities_coercer.php

Or you can become a Coercer: http://eq2.ogaming.com/db/list/abilities_coercer.php

I dont have firsthand experience with those classes, but enchanters are very welcome in groups.

When it comes to druids, 4 of the 6 priest classes can morph into animals. Again its lvl 20 thats the key level.

Excellent, thank you. For some reason I never saw all of the other spells listed on any of the sites I visited. It seems that there is one charm '37.6 Beguile(This is only effective against lesser opponents.), and two illusions which are only castable on others Ratunga and Troll, is this essentially it?

I dont mean to bash EQ2 at all, IM just not certain if I am correct in my assumption.
If I am, heres a link to enchanter spells in EQ:
    Enchanters Spell List

At level one you can use an illusion that transforms you into an inanimate object.
    Minor Illusion

At Fourth Level you can use the Human or Half Elf illusion on yourself:
    Half Elf
    Human

The illusions continue throughout the profession. In regards to the Charm or Beguile type spells, in EQ you get a charm at level 12 that does not have the same limitation identified in the EQ2 version:
    Charm

The charm type spells are added as you level up, allowing you to charm higher ranges as you advance.

Can EQ2 compare at all to the old EQ in this regard? From what I can see, it looks like EQ2 is a watered down version of the original but with much better graphics and Melee skills.

I dont mean to sound so synical, its just that the links you provided, while excellent news, dont seem to compare to EQ in any way shape or form.

Well guys, EQ2 is not a copy of EQ1 nor is it intended to be ... that would be a bit pointless since we still have EQ1, and it's still being expanded.  If you want a chanter which is exactly like your chanter in EQ1, you're not going to get it.  However, the chanter class is still generally the same (with some differences between illusionist and coercer).

My main is a templar, and my main in EQ1 was a cleric also.  In a certain sense, it's like playing the same class, since, well in the last analysis a healer is a healer.  But it really feels a lot different due to the toolbox of spells being quite different.  E.g., I have a few debuffs and what amounts to a translocate spell, and most importantly, the healing scheme is simply quite different.  I like having my character be similar, but with enough differences to break the monotony from EQ1 ... it's a nice change, and if I feel like playing the EQ1 version, it ain't like he's going anywhere.  But people who just came for EQ Chapter 2 are not going to find it.

I supposed it's all personal taste but spells sure don't seem "watered down" to me.  Obviously the power of a spell changes quite a bit from when you start with Apprentice I level to Master II (or whatever the final version is, I forget at the moment).  I honestly don't know what the Beguile spell is going to be able to accomplish, since I am not a chanter.  Maybe find this in a chanter forum somewhere?

And also, this game is structured to go to 200 levels, so *just like EQ1* they're not going to give everyone all the toys immediately.  EQ1 at the 4 month mark really didn't many toys ... a hell of a lot less than EQ2 does.
