I wonder how many people in that thread that ripped the OP are still playing, or if they got in beta and even bought the game at all.
There were plenty of threads before launch where people pronounced the game would fail. It was actually fairly obvious once people lost their Star Trek fanboi glasses.
Many of those ripping the OP have blue tags on their names.
i just didn't get it, so now im playing another mmo. if someone could please post a link from cryptic as to what it was i missed, cause i feel like i missed out.
IF THE ONLY DEFENCE FOR CRITICISM OF A GAME IS CALLING SOMEONE A TROLL OR HATER, THAT SAYS A LOT ABOUT THE QUALITY OF THE GAME
If this game retains more than 50K active players (lifetime or otherwise) it will be a real surprise.
When that happens they could easily lump CO and STO into one sub package. They both share the same authentication server and they could get more box sells. My bill even said Champions Online for a STO sub. I've never subbed to CO.
WOOWWW!!!.. Is this guy an insider under an alias? lmaoo Great prediction, I"m surprised STO didn't see the truth there and delete the post.. TY for the read
Its possible it could have been a friend of a friend of someone with inside info. Or if not he saw right through the BS really well.

It's mostly about people noticing the drop off of players in game and speculating about sub numbers.

Credit to the guy for posting ahead of time an inciteful prediction; however, that said - was this hard to see coming? 2 years development for a supposed AAA MMO where most take 5 years, using the Champions Online engine which is arguably, incapable of true MMORPG world and features, and all the work Cryptic did pushing pre orders with all the in game item bonuses coupled with the limited character slots and hard sale of lifetime subs? This one was about as hard to predict as rain on a cloudy day.

It's funny seeing all the people who ripped into the guy that turned out to be blue names.
the population isnt dropping, it is just boldly going where millions have gone before.
the missing link in a chain of destruction.
All spelling and typographical errors are based soely on the fact that i just dont care. If you must point out my lack of atention to detail, please do it with a smile.

Will someone please make a thread on STO with this link so we can see the CDF come out and flame?
Well, that was an astonishingly accurate prediction IMO, the guy really knows what he's talking about, seeing so many of the 'Blues' arguing about it with him (not all the blues did though i noticed) still, even drawing parallels from other games, i have to wonder exactly how he did predict some of those things, the timeline is.. scarily accurate..
Someone should go through the white names and check them against the captains database and see how many of the white defenders from that thread are still in the game.

it wasn't too hard really, as there were quite a few of us that were saying the same things as he did; anyone who paid attention and had any experience with MMOs were making the same predictions. I just remember that poster being the one to put all of the predictions together in a timeline. Another one who was making a lot of threads and (as it turned out) accurately predicting things was Hagon.

I'm guessng right now they have below 20,000. Just like CO. I'll be surprised if we don't see Cryptic shut down soon. Two flops in a row has to be devastating. Not only in lost revenue, but in the future even less people will buy from them. STO and CO showed me why Atari can't get itself out of the red. Nice knowing you Atari. Thanks for NWN.
Does anyone know how many copies STO sold? I'm betting its under 300K. I wouldn't be surprised if its under 150K. I think most people know Cryptic's shtick, thus people stayed away.

"I'm not sure where you got that number [a player speculating 20k subs], and I can't tell you the actual number of subs we have. However, I do want to correct you on one thing:
Our actual number of subscribers is significantly higher than you have been led to believe. "
So the number of Champions Online subscribers is significantly higher than 20k subs, not below as you falsely stated.

Also, I'd estimate they are somewhere between 30K and 70K subscribers, 20K sounds far too low.
I'm guessing around 50,000 or so for CO, and between 70,000 and 100,000 now for STO.

40K-50K then? That's "significantly higher" than 20K, in fact it's double (or more!)
Let's say for a moment STO has 100k subs, just for the sake of argument.
The pre-order boxes that effectively had 90 days of game time included for the box price and no subscription due until May 4th 2010. Even if those customers have abandoned the game unless they cancelled the free time then they'd be included in the 100k (and may be would still be even if they had cancelled time remaining).
I was recalling that STO was #1 seller in some countries that sold the 90 day boxes.
I think it fair to say that 100k was a hyped up number because of those boxes and for the benefit of pretending everything was fine and going on course and "be confident in buying our game". Seems like a pretty clever confidence trickster strategy which is coming to an end.
Edit: And the target of the strategy was mainly LTS and multi-month package sales revenue and whatever additional box sales they could pick up plus random month worth of subscriptions.

If he doesn't know the actual number how does he know whether it's above or below 20k? The fact they can't give us an actual figure says it all really.

There is a difference between "can't = will not, not allowed" and "can't = I do not know, therefore I can not tell you."
not knowing the "actual" figure is not "telling". I do not know the actual population of the UK off the top of my head, but I CAN tell you its over 60 million ------ see how it works?

Anymore it's just sad over there. It would be like picking on the special kid back in jr high.

Oh that's amazing, and oh shock! the very next post beneath his; "I disagree, we don't have enough information."
Fun,Community,Graphics,immersion. Is that so hard?

My bet is not many.

I think Cryptic sold around 190K boxes of the game: http://www.mmorpg.com/discussion2.cfm/thread/275330/What-Speculation-Sub-numbers-.html.
Also, I'd estimate they are somewhere between 30K and 70K subscribers, 20K sounds far too low.
Where are you getting the idea that CO has below 20k subs?
Maybe you misread the quote from community manager Stormshade:
"I'm not sure where you got that number [a player speculating 20k subs], and I can't tell you the actual number of subs we have. However, I do want to correct you on one thing:

Cryptic is trying a Customer Development approach to MMO creation.
I'm guessing around 50,000 or so for CO, and between 70,000 and 100,000 now for STO.

I wouldn't worry about arguing over "SHIT" or "SHITIER" subscription numbers.. BOTH sides should result in people getting FIRED..
Where did it all go wrong for Cryptic, weren't COH and COV moderate successes?
