Just wait till you want to reset your password - you'll need to remember stuff from 5 years ago because there is no friggin' automatic process for it.

Wow, sounds like you have the same problem you WOULD HAVE HAD if you had taken over someone else's account.  How is it possible you cannot remember the name of ONE of your characters?  You realize, of course, that they put that feature in so people who tried to steal other people's accounts could not get into the account without knowing the name of at least one character (so the password alone would not be sufficient.)   Sounds like your injuries here are self-inflicted.

I could see how it would be a problem though. I mean, I don't remember any of my chars names from guildwars. Doesn't bother me though, I didn't plan on playing it anymore anyways.

I know exactly how you feel, OP.  I tried to log back in to GW after a few years from playing, about a week ago.  I wanted to see and remember what made me give it up.  So, I try to log in and they ask me for my character name.  Now, for the poeple that are thinking; "Why can't you remember your character name?," please realize that some people, myself included, haven't played this game in over three years.  With the internet and online games becoming more and more commonplace, so does the use of different character and user names.  When you play more than one game, and you haven't played for years, it's easy to forget your character's name.  That said, I needed to go through NCsoft support, as someone mentioned.  If you've ever had to go through NC support, you should consider yourself better off.  First, you log in to NC.  Then, you click on "support."  It moves you to the support area, but at the same time, it logs you out NCsoft homepage, even though you're clearly still on the same website.  Silly, I know.  Anyway, I then had to dig up my access code for the game, give my NC account name &  email address, and explain my problem.  Now, here's what really irked me:  When I put my email and account name in, it said that I'd have to set up a new email account if they didn't recognize the address.  Fine.  I've been playing NCsoft games for years and have had the same email for years, as well, so my email is there, right?.  Wrong.  I was moved to another page that asked me to register my email, because the database didn't recognize it.  However, when I tried to register my email, it said, "that email already exists in the database," and wouldn't let me go any further through support.

Anyway, I hate to bore with such a long description, but I eventually had to just send an email directly from my yahoo account, and I got a response about 36 hours later.  I was able to log in, and I quickly remembered why this game couldn't keep me in the first place: practically zero story; a cookie cutter-like, non-complex battle system (damage given and taken is way too predictable, even for an mmorpg), and a community that largely consists of players that aren't interested in helping or communicating with you, unless you can help them.

I know, my anectdote turned in to a little bit of a rant, but it's true.

You had me until you said zero story. The game has an amazing storyline with cut scenes.

Are we talking about the same Guild Wars here? Because they Guild Wars I've been playing for over 4 years is the same Guild Wars that despite its age is still teeming with people compared to practically every other MMO out there, and still manages to hold the number 14 spot on Xfire, at the very least (above Eve Online).

Why, by the way, can't you remember a character name? I can remember the names of characters in almost every MMO I've played, and I've played many!

Yeah, I had the same issue. Haven't played in quite a while and that "feature" wasn't there the last time I played. I also couldn't remember any character names.

It was horrible. I had to -- with great effort -- drag my hand over to the mouse and close GuildWars. After wiping the sweat from my brow, there was the equally tiring series of mouse-clicks to get to their website. I was so tired and angry at this point, I almost broke down.

Then there was the 100 words I had to type in a support ticket and send it off to the company. For God's sake, they made me type! Such an unreasonable requirement just to get back into the game.

After all this work, I had to wait a whole 45 minutes just to get a response. 45 minutes! What kind of shoddy customer service takes that long! What a bunch of incompetent people at NCSoft. Their response to me should be instantaneous. Don't they know I am the ONLY important customer here.

I wasted a total of 60-70 minutes trying to get this fixed. Can you believe that?

lol no need to be an ass about it, he could've been like me, i have 3 different accounts just because I was THAT into the game back then; furthermore, it was somewhat a necessity back then since you could not increase the number of character slots you have on an account so after a while it gets too filled up. (also max gold you can hold is 1.6 mil... so some ppl had to get another account to hold more gold) so its easy to forget when theres the requirement of a first and last name.

either way i had the same rpbolem coming back like 2 months ago but after i troubleshooted their help they asked me a few questions and they actually gave me my names back so i was able to recover like 2 of my accounts ( i actually remembered the name of my 3rd account suprisingly)

Same prob here.  I haven't been so lucky as to have someone from support get back to me in less then two hours though.  Working on two days right now...

Blizz had a much better idea for account security.  Then again with 1.whatever billion players at $14/mo I guess they can afford to hire people with good ideas.

Right, because having the number of hacked accounts increase after forcing everyone over to the Battle.net logins using their emails shows how good of an idea that was . . .
