How will this game hold up in the long term?

Well, this is not a flame on this game at all--just something I started thinking about the other day.

Ok, pretty much everyone knows how one of the biggest gripes with WoW right now is that once you get to 60, BAM! there's really not much else to do (as of right now) besides PvP. Now the way I see it (and it's just my opinion of course), GW is going to be an amplified version of this.

With only 20 levels to start, and with (i'm just guessing here) not as much PvE content as WoW, I have a feeling that many people will chew that content up even faster than is done in WoW, leaving people simply at that PvP stage, griping to ArenaNet that they want more.

Am I overlooking things here? Just curious...

Well, ( i agree with you on most parts) the leveling isn't "that" important, seeing as you can only take 8 skills into any given fight with you. Being a higher level only gives you more choices. theoretically, a low level charachter could kill a higher level, in a one on one fight, and thats if the low-level picked a good skill set, and played better. But yes... i can see people "doing it all" and then griping to ArenaNet for more content.

this game has alot of content but by the time someone unravails the mysteries with gw get all the rare skill the best class runes so on. but for someone quickly doing that all in the first month would be impressive. there has only been once i have ever been bored with gw which was about 2 years ago when i first played their first beta where you started on shipwreck... ooo boy that was hard but this is still in beta this one ocming up is suppose to include alot more pvp addition and work and maybe a few extra things, and then theres that beta after that too which they will improve on alot more. i do see players griping in the future about more stuff probally 2-3 months after release if they aren't a casual gamer. Also including the updates that gw often adds in. then there is the expansion that will sport a new race new land and so on

Yeah its um, its pretty simple actually. They put in plenty of free-roam PvE mixed with missions for those looking for that sword with just a tad more damage to give them the slight edge (which is pretty much just an EQ-esqe gameplay style that's been stripped of the penalties/gripes that have plagued the MMO genre in the first place). That will cater to the thousands of item-junkies that try to have/sell the best of the best equiment. Personally not my cup of tea, but good for them. To try and answer your main question, however, the game will hold up for years if they include some of the little, yet most crucial aspects of competitive gameplay: ladders, tournaments, ranking, etc. And low and behold, they will and already have that underway.

If a guy can sit at his computer and whack a kobold over the head with an automated attack 24/7, then why the hell wouldnt he have a more enjoyable time against opponents using the most-challenging tactics of all, that is, real AI. It's simple phsycology really; MMO's work because they give the player a goal to achieve, to basically get everything/see everything/be everything, to be the best. Unfortunately, with that comes a generally awful grind that most of us find ourselves getting locked into, addicted to just get that one point of strength etc. This will still be possible in Guildwars, in beautiful environments that you'll have to complete missions to reach. With expected expansion packs coming, more missions/classes etc, I'm undoubtably sure that, if the devs continue to pump out content on a fairly frequent basis, and keep guild status/ladders/ranking and the like enabled and functioning, this game will be a household word. If you want an example, take a look at Warcraft 3. It's been out since what, mid 2001, and it's still alive and kicking for two reasons- updates and ladders. Competition gives headway to greater levels of enjoyment and excitement, and Guildwars is simply a new sport to add to the list. This is why, in a nutshell, it will hold up in the long term.

Well im only a Beta tester so i have only seen like 30% of the game (according to an Alpha tester) when it comes to missions. and i know that if u don't have a decent party at the last missions on the beta world ...well then u get stuck. (Even if u r lvl 20)

And the same is with the HoH. Wrong team and u r Smoked in 4min flat. but with the right team and a Good Tactic u may complete missions easy... BUT then you allways have the one thing I love the most in this game...EXPLORE... try to walk solo from one place to an other just to explore that is fun, and some times Hard to image, Example. I met 2 Necrid Horsemen and 2 damned Clerics and 4 Hellhound at the same place in the "Cursed lands" and i can tell you that That isn't funny and im a lvl 19 fullplate (with runes) War/Mo.

So i guess there will allways be a Challenge out there if u like one. and also i have my Faith in that Arena will make an effort in "keeping" their customers by making Interesting "addons"...

So basicly Hell Yes GW have aa Bright Future :D

While the PvE in Guild Wars is excellent (imo), the game really is made for PvP players. It won't take nearly as long time to go through all there is of PvE content in GW as it would in WoW (for example). Having said that, GW will come with 25 missions and 60-70 explorable areas, and it's not like you play a mission once and then never come back. I'm certain AN are supporting those that enjoy PvE over PvP and will keep making content for them aswell :)
