AoC vs WAR

awsomeguyawsomeguy Member Posts: 5

Hey everyone,

Im currently looking into both of these games to play, and I have a few questions...

In each of the games how is the player base? Are they empty?

I know WAR is all pvp, but is the AoC pvp comparable?

Does it take very long to make it to lvl cap in each?

Any personal oppinions of each game, or any other game suggestions?

Thanks alot!

AoC had some server merges recently and the server that I'm playing on (Fury PvP) is basically pretty crowded. It's the only pure PvP server left on the EU servers. So everyone that is picking a PvP server will go for it. There are quite some resubbers, including me. So the playerbase is definitely growing, most resubbers like AoC now, it has been polished really well.

I haven't played WAR for like 6 months and even then I couldn't last longer then 1 day. Basically I only played that game actively at release when it was pretty popular. From the recent things I read about WAR it seems like it's a graveyard and a sinking ship.

Besides, AoC is still a pvp orientated game aswell. Biggest difference is the faction warfare in WAR and the FFA pvp in AoC. Both has it cons and pros but I would pick AoC over WAR anytime. AoC has also a expansion coming in a few months and the game is far from death while I get the impression WAR is dying slowly. So I would say AoC is a better investment and less of a waste.

I disagree.  Sure, I've never played AoC, but I do play WAR, and it is far from dying.  The world may not be crowded, but it is certainly full enough to be active.  I heard that since the staff cuts and endless trial, WAR is actually making money again.  I know little to nothing about AoC, but I do definitely enjoy WAR.  It's worth a try.

AoC has some of the most beautiful graphics I've seen, decent grind, the quests need more work, as for the PvP it's open PvP as in gank fest.

WAR graphics are decent, not as real and polished as AoC, but much better and refined than EQ2 and WoW, the grind is ok, asides from the Public Quests all the other mobs are few and scarce, quests are worded well but they are mostly kill x amount or fedex quests, the PvP depends on the server you pick, the open RvR is like AoC, a gank fest, the core RvR there's designated areas in the map where you go to pvp, there's no pvp outside of them unless you flag yourself.

From personal experience unless I was in a large group I couldn't really enjoy PvP or even PvE in AoC due to getting constantly jumped by a crowd or higher levels, in WAR you level at your your own pace and if you want to PvP just jump into the designated area or queue for a scenario while doing your PvE.

It all falls on your playstyle.

What I can suggest to you right now is to get free trial of both and try it out.  At least you will find out if the games work on your PC.

Both Trials do not represent the real game tho.  Tortage first 20 levels are very much diffrent from the rest of the game.  First 10 levels in WAR are good - for many the best part of the game.

I really can't recomend these games to anyone tho.  Both these games failed misserably in what they aimed for and both have suffered badly because of it.  Personally I still play WAR free trial now and again for some fun.  But both games still have massive issues they will probably never sort out.

Played last month AoC seemed dead in the type of PVP. About warhammer you will find insane pvp in T1,T2 sometimes T3 and when you reach T4 you will get your ass wiped. You can lvl from lvl 1 to 40 in 48 hours in warhammer but in AoC it will take you more time. WAR is pvp grind for AoC i can not tell. If you want  pure pvp play WAR.
