Final Fantasy XI: March Update Media Tour

StraddenStradden Managing EditorMember CommonPosts: 6,696

MMORPG.com's Carolyn Koh recently took part in a media tour of Final Fantasy XI, showcasing the game's March updates and discussing briefly its future in the face of FFXIV.

The fears of Final Fantasy XI fans with years invested in their characters that Square Enix would no longer support FFXI with the announcement of Final Fantasy XIV were put to bed at VanaFest - the international Final Fantasy Fan Festival in Japan, in late February. The show stayed focused on FFXI, with only mention that invitations to a closed FFXIV alpha test would be extended only to FFXI players.

The future of FFXI was laid out for the fans for the year, which included raising the level cap from 75 to 99 in three stages, beginning in the summer. Three new add-ons were also unveiled to the participants: Vision of Abyssea, Heroes of Abyssea and Scars of Abyssea with the first one slated to launch this summer. Abyssea is a parallel world to Vana'diel with all new Mobs, and Mobs of notorious and high notorious levels.

Level 99 huh, now that will take some serious grinding....seems to me that they want to keep veterans happy and invision new players going to XIV.

Lots of content for little work.. it's a win/win for the players and SE.

Using LOL is like saying "my argument sucks but I still want to disagree".

I wish I had kept playing this game instead of quitting at level 28 to try something new, when this game had first came out.  I really would love to start playing again, but reading around I see there really isn't many people around to group/talk to in the lower level stages.

I remember having a 28 red mage, but do not remember my ID, so would probably have to buy a new set of copies and play.  I just am tired of being mmo-less!  Anyways, it is good to see they are still giving this game attention, especially with the new one comming out.

I definetly enjoy the "class system" in FFXI more than any other mmo.  The idea of one character able to switch classes/combine them is amazingly cool.  Still, I wish I had not abandoned it.

I am entitled to my opinions, misspellings, and grammatical errors.

FFXI still has a lot of life left in it :P It may be underpopulated in the lower levels before, but since it went up on Steam there has been a steady stream coming on.

    Playing - EVE, Wurm

Retired - Final Fantasy XI, Anarchy Online, Mabinogi

    Waiting - ArcheAge, Salem

What they should do is consolidate the Server into 2-3 and remove the rest, that way the servers being played on would be a bit more populated then spread out.

Im on a serious vacation from that game. I took a redmage to 85 and some other jobs to 80. Its alot of hard work and bullshit. Why dont they just make another expansion instead of making these bogus abessya addons.  As far as the updated spells, i think Red Mage got royallly screwed. But thats water under the bridge im looking forward the new.

I think the North American population has declined. Ive noticed when i was on during Japanese and european times there were more  Players on. I dont think you should contract servers. I remeber when Eq2 extended became free to play, there was only one server and 4 starting points. So if that starting point was crowed you could not start there. I think se is just stalling until they can fix 14 and rerelease the game. If it was me, i would have released another Expansion, not some bogus as addon. there is a  difference.
