Imo its bad very very bad.Warner Brothers has no real experience in the mmog market the only thing they ever did do was Matrix Online and we seen how that turned out they dumped it to SOE after not even 6 months.More than likely I would expect them to shut down Ac1 completly they are like EA they won't run games that aren't making good profits.Either way it's very sad for us as gamers as one of the very few indie mmog game devlopers is no more.

Does this mean subscriber numbers will now be released?

    Also I just read this:

"Warner Bros is buying North America’s largest independent online gaming studio in an effort to spread its social networking and micro-payments technology across its video games and home video business"

That right there is what stuck out to me the most. My gut feeling tells me Asheron's Call is going to be the only title out of turbine that I will have ever enjoyed. If there is one thing I'd bet on is that the big wigs at WB have visions of WoW inspired subscription numbers and won't let Turbine off that chain. That said Turbine has done a fine job of staying on that chain all by themselves.

Well, here's hoping I'm wrong and if not, thanks Turbine for my past AC experiences!

Nice quote. I've always preferred von Moltke the Elder's:

"No plan of operations extends with certainty beyond the first encounter with the enemy's main strength"

Military wise the man was ahead of his times for sure.

Well...guess that's the final nail in Asheron's Call's coffin. Too bad, I had my hopes up that they would make a 3rd one...:(

Yea I was thinking that. All LOTRO under one roof now.

Cool. Maybe they can clean up the lore and get rid of the out of place elements Turbine introduced....like runekeepers.

Awe.. that would suck, as the Rune-Keeper class is the only reason I even still play LOTRO. :D

Which is why they won't cut it. Not because of Dameonk but because of, as listed in the post by Xondar above, those shareholders want their money. Axing Runekeepers would make people bail (and start the NGE Part 2 outcry) and Turbine doesn't want that to happen. They want those share holders to be happy. It they make the players happy along the way, well, that's good too. image

Highly doubt WB will overly affect any MMOs that Turbine is currently running. Though all things on the outside, Cash Shop, Customer Service and future MMO direction will be affected. If this is good or bad is beyond me at the moment. Only time and the news will deterimine that.

Why am I suddenly reminded of the movie Demolition Man?

In the future all restaurants are Taco Bell.

Something like this must have been the way it started.

Big companies fighting over one particular demographic, boiling games down to their basic components and having focus groups to see what today's gamer wants and in the end we end up with 6 different flavors of vanilla. Soon, who cares, it's all Taco Bell.

I don't know whether I consider it bad or good. It's really to early to tell. Though they do seem to have very high expectations as far as this investment is concerned.

It seems MMO's are about to be blown up even more than they have been, that company who purchased G&H's is another company striving for cross-media titles, seems WB is as well. It does raise the question of what comes next for the genre.

God we can only hope so. Also I hope one of the big wigs has a kid that wants to play AC2 again ( a better game) and they restart it after they close the other crap.

Maybe MMO is not your genre, go play Modern Warfare...or something you can be all twitchy...and rank up all night. This is seriously getting tired. -Ranyr

The way I read that is: we're buying you, but you need to keep running your business. Which, if done correctly could mean very good news for players as now those bonuses will be based on performance. This is a good opportunity for players to excise pressure on the devs to get shit done. Now players have the upper hand.
