I started to write this as a reply in the "Why don't you liek so far?" thread, but decided to break it off into its own, complete with correctly spelled title.
Originally posted by WSIMikeSeriously, though... I got about 1 hour into playing and, same as you, I kept saying to myself "Where the hell is this going? I'm level 15 and have no flipping clue what is going on." The whole game feels like a disjointed, schizophrenic mess to me.
Schizophrenic is absolutely the word for it. This game just feels like the developers took every element of every culture which they thought seemed cool, and jumbled it together. Maybe there was some thread that caused it to make sense in the original version, but the English translation is so poor (probably the poorest I've ever seen from a translated Asian title) that it certainly doesn't any more.
You're in Atlantis.. then you get sent to Egypt.. where a plane has crashed (I thought this was a fantasy game?) , and we need to pursue an ancient Egyptian priest with the ancient Egyptian name of.. Emerton. Then after defeating him inside an (admittedly very pretty) Egyptian tomb, you go downstairs - or at least you think you're going downstairs? - and now you're in some ancient Chinese fantasy with terracotta warriors and ramblings about Dragon Emperors.
I muddled through this nonsense and found myself back in Atlantis, where I was sent out into the sea into the middle of a brawl between Pompeiians and Spartans??!? And giant crabs, of course, which is fair enough for the bottom of the sea. This was just getting ridiculous, and at this point (level 24 iirc) I stopped.
Unfortunately, the rest of the game seems as messy and incoherent as the story. I see a lot of people on the forums coming to grief because they didn't realize you had to spend a lot of your xp upgrading skills, not just levelling up. There are about a million ways to upgrade gear, none of which are particularly clearly explained, ditto pets. Vendors selling items for endless types of currencies.
I guess I could have forgiven the messy story and made the effort to understand the complicated mechanics, if the game had been a load of fun. But it isn't. The look and feel of the game is a nod to classic action RPGs like the Diablo franchise, but as I said elsewhere, it lacks one thing: action. The combat is slow and almost entirely lacking in interaction. I had three skills on medium-length cooldowns, apart from that, it was click on a target and autoattack until he died. With mana being limited and slow to regen, I was reluctant to hammer my cooldowns too heavily, especially since there was no need to: combat was the easiest I have ever encountered in an MMO. In my journey to level 24 I never died, never once even found myself in a situation where it seemed possible that I might be at risk of dying.
When I compare this to the early stages of Diablo II .. the sluggish zombies giving way to fast moving lancers, the boss mobs with their random attacks, the Smith chasing you down with his hammer, and then frantically kiting Andariel around her room while dodging poison bolts - it's just depressing how much worse a 2010 game can be than a ten-year-old title.
I can't see myself spending any more time in this beta and certainly can't see myself bothering to play once it releases. If I'm in the mood for something of this nature, I'll just play some more Diablo II - this attempt at taking that gameplay from multiplayer to massively multiplayer is just a colossal failure.
Comments
I tried this game because i was hoping it would be a diablo clone MMO. Since it was free, the client was small, my internet was fast and i was bored, i downloaded it without really reading anything about it. It certainly is not a diablo clone MMO that is for sure. It just feels like a normal grind'm'out asian style MMO. Which is fine....just not what i was expecting. I got to level 20 and deleted the game. The game was very simple and very confusing at the same time which is certainly not what i wanted when i downloaded the game.
Anyways try it out for your self since its free.......IMO DDO is way more action packed and fun so I will stick to that when i want to hack some mobs for fun and for free.
Playing: PO, EVE
Waiting for: WoD
Favourite MMOs: VG, EVE, FE and DDO
Any person who expresses rage and loathing for an MMO is preposterous. He or she is like a person who has put on full armor and attacked a hot fudge sundae.
I just uninstalled when i realized it was click-to-move.
Yeah it seems that's a deal-breaker for a lot of people (the official forums are groaning under the weight of "we want WASD!" threads).
Not a problem for me, though, since what I was expecting/hoping for was somethin akin to Diablo II.
The games failure isnt just in the WASD its in the game dynamic itself. I personally was expecting so much more from PWI that I felt like I was taking a 5 year step back in game design and dynamics. I havent played in 3 days sadly and will probably uninstall tomorrow.
Just not for me
mm!did you at least reach half way true?nope !your point of view isnt gona be taken very seriously when i coment about agame about external factor like cant install etc not issue !but saying the game is lame when you havent even bothered to press on the pvp button to know the level req even i did this
its lvl 31 !
so for me i cannot say frankly if the game is good or bad because the pvp van turn this game around in a dime
lot of game were easy mode!hell aika you go there its easy mode
till you reach high enough to be in pvp mode then you discover why everything was so easy
my take on this reach the minimum needed for the pvp event(this will not be 31 i bet)
but reach that when you have then you can say how the game truelly is
no game are good from 1 to 20 not a single one be it wow eq2 star wars
they re all the same lvling up thats it!
lol!you should have wrote on the other tread lol!
The game is quite simply bad: slow and boring. I don't believe that a slow and boring game is magically going to become good in PvP - I think it's much more likely that it will get worse.
And even if there is a chance that it will get better - so what? There are games I could be enjoying right now. Games that are fast-paced. Games that give you interesting options in combat. Games where the text is written in decent English, not broken translations (although, thankfully, not as bad as a drbaltazar post).
And finally, it's simply not true that no game is good in the early levels. If that were true, I would never have stuck with an MMO in my life. But I've played plenty past the early levels because they were fun from the start. I'm not saying that they didn't get more interesting at high levels, just that they were fun even at level 1.
For this style of game: re-read what I wrote about Diablo II. That was fun at level 1-20. It was awesome even in act 1, read what I wrote about the Smith and Andariel. BoI is not in any way awesome, it's click on a monster and fall asleep. No movement. No dodging. No kiting. No meaningful decision-making. Just nothing.
If you think all MMOs are boring to level up, and your main interest is PvP, serious question: why are you playing MMOs? Go play an FPS or RTS, get straight into PvP instantly without any boring levelling, and the actual gameplay is generally better than any MMO.
Mmkay i don't play it cos decided to try it when OB starts since i don't feel like leveling character which is going to be deleted, but my brother does and he's hooked, he's bout lvl 55 atm (playing in other room), I spectaded him playing few times, game looks interesting with lots of different stuff, i've seen him killing bosses in group which wasn't just hack and slash and boss is down u need bit teamplay, i've also seen him fail in some event (he said events happens often) they failed because they didn't killed totems in time when they appear so mobs get's summoned. He also explained u get mark or smt (like in wow) for every killed boss and u use em for upgrading ur gear, what i like in game is that ppl looks unique and armors looks really good. I'll really try it when ob starts.
banq is suggest you try diable again for fun !i dont think you have played it in a long time!memory play trick on all of us often!
ps:sorry for my yankey, sudist speach from texas accent!
I don't know why anyone can't just make a decent free MMO and put ads in the load screens? Makes sense doesn't it?
Whether a game succeeds in keeping you playing or not is usually decided within the first hour of play or even earlier (in my case, about 1 minute, but I continued a bit because it was beta).
Most reknown devs agree on that, as do I.
A game has to grab you by the throat and suck you in, if you have to spend hours or even days doing boring activities in a messy and nonsensical world, the game is not worth playing.
Feel free to use my referral link for SW:TOR if you want to test out the game. You'll get some special unlocks!
Its just far too weird for me. Im level 21, and I still have no clue what the hells going on unless Im willing to click through poorly translated walls of text written in bad font.
Uh, how is this game confusing? You got yourself confused cuz quite apparently you expect everything to be handed to you on a silver platter? It is easy enough with so many things such as links on quest tracker to take you to the specific questgivers/turn in's.. also takes you to a different location by just clicking on the links as well >.>
I'm level 60 in the game as a Bezerker and it's a fabulous class. I can even tank most things better than the champion.
It has a story line and it's even in the chronicles.. You just have to pay attention to quests and they're mostly chained somehow. I learned from the previous mmo's is not to miss out a quest and it's simply common sense not to. I don't see why you skipped them and be like, shit.. what the fuck am I supposed to do now? Im so lost? Well, that's your problem.
It even has tutorial right at the beginning and a help guide. It also has F9 for specific keys on the keyboard photo >.>
If you want to auto-target, it's the (~) grave key >.>
When you get to level 20+ Do an event called Knight's Jail (Its an instance) and you'll get stamps (good enough for 5 runs for 25 stamps) to buy your gear at your class armor vendor that's right next to the instance teleporter.
All of this isn't exactly rocket science.
I personally think the graphics are great! It gives me the Atlantica Online feel. This game is also fantasy-based so of course there will be off-the wall countries and a variety of seas thrown in together.. Just like Atlantica Online lol. I love it! I don't mind the click to move thing. It's perfect for the game.. and you'll find out later that WASD isn't really compatible for it. Trust me. It's easier with click to move.. and all you had to do is press the left down without letting go and move in some direction without (click, click, click, turn, click) >.>
They also give you a gift pack for every 5 levels and it's really helpful - It makes the game interesting, and there's something to look forward to. I just got Deity wings at level 60.. after wearing the cape from Level 10 or 20 (Not sure which one)
Also wouldn't you like the fact that mobs are put together instead of putting out all over the place? To be honest, I don't think I've ever walked so far for something like this. They're zoned, but damn the screen loads so quick before I even blink. That's impressive. There's teleporters to take you to places as welll. I mean seriously, everything is at our convienence lol.
You're able to tame a variety of mobs at your own choosing. I'm sporting a bermuda banshee with a superb quality and Excited Mood and about 1700 growth. The pet taming system is a bit complicated, I'd admit.. but it's truly a learning experience.. and you should give it a try. The mobs have a variety of stats of their own - Mine's a dexeterity pet. If you want a strength one, go out and find one! Well the funny thing is that my boyfriend's pet is a pharoh squire with an amazing quality and he's a killing machine with so much more hp than me at 60. The pet is only at level 40.
You should try the events (The button is on the bottom of the minimap) It gives you decent xp and money. Sometimes good drops.
Ah, there's so much to do in this game. This would be more than a novel, so just really give the game a try. Keep going with an open mind
Thanks!
If wanting a game to be translated into English by a translator who actually speaks English is "expecting everything to be handed to me on a silver platter," then yes, I expect everything handed to me on a silver platter.
Ultimately, though, you should probably skip to the end of my post. The thing that genuinely matters is that this game has extremely slow, poor and non-interactive gameplay. It wouldn't matter if the storyline made sense (explain to me again why walking downstairs in an Egyptian tomb takes you to ancient China? and why are Pompeiians and Spartans fighting under the sea next to Atlantis?). It wouldn't even matter that much if the chat text from NPCs was written in English instead of semi-coherent nonsense. The game still wouldn't be fun.
And what's this WASD nonsense? I'm not one of the whining masses asking for WASD. I'm asking for Diablo made massively multiplayer.
1) Maybe it's you that doesn't comprehend english properly? If I understand it, then you could too. Maybe you want lazy, abbreviated text? Play Hello Kitty Online or something.
2) It's not slow for me. I got to 60 within 2 days. It's frankly too easy. Poor? How so? Do explain. Non-interactive? You gotta be kidding me? Most of the events require people in a group for an extreme amount of experience and interaction. I think you never had gotten far past level 5 - so don't judge on the game til you get past my level then you can. You absolutely need a group for bosses and you imply this game is non-interactive? What a weirdo.
3) It's for the developers to decide if they want giant crabs to be next to spartan warriors or a gator lord to be next to Naga Royal Guards. It's not for you to decide or prefer. It's their game and they invest their money into it, therefore they can do whatever they please. I honestly am amused with their creativity and off-the wall humor with the monsters in the game. Seeing a waterfall flowing in the Sea of Atlantis? That give me a giggle. Good enough to be pleased to stay.
4) This game is really similiar to Diablo in a way - and that's what I've been told and I believed them. It really doesn't matter what you or other people say.. because everyone is entitled to their opinion as they have different point of views. Make yourself a Diablo mmo if you can't be pleased with others.
I think part of the problem here stems from the fact that English is not your first language and you are misreading a bit of what the previous poster is trying to say. Just because you can understand English doesn't mean you can /understand/ English. You're missing the nuances of what is being said vs. the literal translation. Hopefully I'm not getting above your head.
When he was referring to the game being slow, he was referring to the animations and overall feel. People play games differently and I am probably one of the slowest levellers in existence as I like to explore the game and look around, finding things others miss in their mad rush to get to the top. It's like drinking a wine, either to get drunk or to enjoy the flavors and smells of the wine. But the point is, not how fast you can get to point B from point A, but how does the game play between the points. As to interactive, he is not talking about the social interaction of the game, but the ability to interact with the game itself. You can't change anything and nothing you do has any effect within the game, so it feels like a hamster wheel basically.
Yes, it is up to the developers as to what they want in their games, but it's the players who they are making it for. If they can't make a game that makes sense or follows some sort of logic, either by being totally illogical as a whole or following a logical sequence of events, not by mixing up the two, then they're not going to have many players, which leads to a dead game and lost money.. As to the egypt tomb to china, one could argue that you went through the center of the Earth, as it was believed at one time that if you dug deep enough, you would reach China. The point is, yes, they can do what they want, but you look back at other people who have done that and they aren't around any more. You have to follow what the players want to a degree, otherwise you're not going to have a game.
Your last paragraph is what prompted me to post a reply to this, as I've never played this game and honestly probably won't. I can see just from the type of game through people's statements that it will not be for me. No big deal and I'm certainly not going to miss out on it. Anyway, you state that everyone is entitled to their opinion, all the while bashing the previous poster for his, exacerbated by the fact that you don't fully comprehend what he is trying to say, which is painfully obvious in your reply. You say the game is similar to Diablo but from the way you state that, I don't believe you've actually played Diablo. You're relying on what other people have told you which kinda invalidates your opinion on its similarity to Diablo.
Everyone /is/ entitled to their opinion. Some people like the games, some don't. You can put forth reasons of why their points might be invalid, but you might want to make sure you're replying to the right point.
Ok a few things here.
1. She makes valid points. The game is one of the best translated F2P games I've ever seen. They explain that the pompeiians and spartans are having a tournament.
2. I've played Diablo 1 and 2, and she knows that, and since she has absolutely no reason to doubt my statement that they are similar to this game, she say that. Plus she even implies in her statement she hasn't played it. Doesn't mean she hasn't seen a video of it.
3. The main storyline (which is in the cronical book as you unlock chapters in it by doing quests) is that the world is going out of wack, there is a darkness corrupting various mythological creatures and such.
4.The game play is far faster then the person she was replying to says, its not slow and if you aren't paying attention you can die in an instant.
5. The interaction statement the person made made me LOL, and make me wonder how much he actually did in the game. Almost every event give huge bonuses for being part of a party and doing it, wither better drops, higher exp rewards, more money, higher chance of getting a special pet, and w/e else. Oh and if he means by interaction meaning he is just clicking and meleeing and not using skills, that's his problem. Everyone else I see playing in the game uses them. He obviously isn't 31+ where pvp can start to happen. Also at 45+ you can start doing the battlegrounds. If you happen to be part of a guild you can participate in the guild castle battles.
6.Yes everyone is entitled to their own opinion, but if you come to a public forum like this and state it, there is going to be someone that is going to have a different one, so there is bound to be some confrontations.
Thanks, I will play this game as it seems from what I read the game is like MU Online. I don't care if those who don't like it, I'm sure that I will because it seems like the game for me. I've tried 75 MMORPG's and even made a top 20 list on youtube, also please read the description. Sorry I was off topic but so what. LOL
And for those who are playing, please let me know your player name. send me the name on youtube thanks.
I have to say, you sound like a fanboy who will argue with any negative statement, and never accept differences of opinion. Having said that, you have misunderstood several of my complaints, so I'd like to clarify.
1) Sorry, I understand English perfectly well. Look, unfortunately I'm not at home right now, so I can't fire up BoI and provide some examples, but my memory of the game is that virtually every piece of conversation (and this includes the instructions provided by NPCs responsible for e.g. fortifying gear) has very clearly been translated by a translator who does not have a solid grasp of standard written English.
2) You misunderstand me here. I wasn't complaining about levelling speed - that's actually quite fast, no doubt about it. I was talking about speed of gameplay - right from the start, killing anything took a painfully long time of standing there autoattacking. Am I too impatient? Perhaps. But as I said several times, I was looking for an action MMORPG, in the manner that the Diablo games are action RPGs.
And by "non-interactive", I wasn't talking about interaction with other players - I was talking about interaction with the game. By the time I got too bored to continue (which, by the way, was at level 24), I had an attack with a moderate cooldown which put a mild debuff on my target; a short stun with a long cooldown; and a strike that did extra damage, also with a long cooldown. This basically meant that combat ran like this: click on target, maybe use one ability (depending on cooldowns), autoattack for a while, he dies, having done minimal damage to me in the process.
I did not find this entertaining.
3) Of course it's their game and they are free to engage in whatever cross-cultural mash-ups they favour. But if you want to talk off-the-wall humour, I certainly laughed loudly at your claim that it's not for me to prefer whether they do this or not! Of course it is for every gamer to decide what they prefer, and vote with their wallets.
4) That's what you've been told, and believed? So I take it you haven't played the Diablo games? Look, if you don't have that background in gaming, of course, BoI may look fresh and original to you, and may feel fun to play. But seriously, you'd be doing yourself a favour by trying Diablo II. It's not just standard MMO combat with an isometric perspective. It is a genuine action RPG game. Combat actually involves moving, and dodging, avoiding missile and spell attacks from mobs, hitting them with ranged attacks of your own - all combined with RPG-style character development, customization and gearing. The graphics (800x600 resolution) are hard to deal with, it's true, but the action I have honestly not seen matched since.
I'm glad you concluded by saying that everyone is entitled to their opinion, because the rest of your post gave the impression that I was not entitled to the opinion that BoI is a poor game.
they re bringing wasd,they re bringing tab targeting,they re bringing the font of the in game(the good looking one not the horrible default
with these 3 mod alone this game will be the thing to play for months went it goes open beta .i dont advise for now for the simple fact that pw is in bug mode right now .they havent tweaked anything they re just on the hunt for bug and true problem
as for the difficulty yes it will but tuned but if pw want to see something they have to make it easy in close beta other wise
in 3 year the close beta wont be finish lol.
right now its silly easy ,my take on this they ll up the difficulty lvl by 20% at open beta!
try the slayer... 2shot everything and crazy abilities.
It sucks being a hardcore player at heart but a casual player in availability. ~NightCloak
THIS is just another PWE game. Not going into details about game GUI, translations, quests, etc. It is just in a early testing phase and these PWE guys will fix most of the problems the community is facing before setting it up for the final launch. But what I can tell you is what will happen after the game has been tweaked and tinkered and made into a flashy F2P grindfest, sugarcoated with anything from wicked looking cash shop mounts to lingerie for your female toons.
Its...Same old, same old...
You can easily hit a certain milestone level in a span of a few days (i.e. from level 1 to level 60~90).
You can hit another benchmark level in a span of a few months (somewhere around lvl 60 to 90) if you show some mild interest in focusing on the usual grinding/dungeon farming routine on a daily and/or hourly basis.
You then need a few years to hit anything above a third benchmark level (level 100 to 105 or somesuch), only possible if you decide to kill your social life (if you ever had one) and show such a level of dedication on playing the game and leveling up that even a doormat would feel envious of.
However, if they decide to keep that garbage botting program in game or recall it at a later stage, then as long as you use the cash shop at some given time (to purchase the juice required for botting past a certain time limit, whatever they decide to name it as) you, as well as any mildly intelligent chimpanzee who got its macro setup by someone, can hit the upper level cap in anytime between a few days to a few weeks or a few months. You wouldnt even need to personally interact much with the game to level up your toon as long as you refill your potions and empty your inventory atleast once a day.
Also, get ready to spend.
Whether you purchase cash shop money directly with your real life currency or you purchase cash shop money, via the auction house, with game coins you WILL have to spend at a later stage. Unless of course your one of those hardcore e-masochist gamers who voluntarily force themselves to play a F2P with a massively gimped gameplay minus any fun factor just for the sole reason that its FREE(not).
It goes without saying that, to be used as anything other than cannon food or crash test dummies on the PvP scene you WILL have to purchase cash shop refinement items/charms among other things, directly or indirectly.
TL;DR version? Its a PAY to WIN grindfest.
I dont want my post to come out as if I am bashing this game, hater style. And me getting flamed for just expressing my opinion of PWE games all in all in one of the footnotes about their new game. But its a just another asian F2P and if anyone was "trying it for the new features" and "blahblah and blah" I am just plainly stating how this game will be for you in a few months from a completely unbiased POV, in case you dont know.
Chances of finding a person who already doesnt know about asian F2Ps are zero to none, its like someone not knowing that Pluto is no longer considered a planet, but hey there might atleast be one person who is uninformed out there.
If anyone wants to give it a try, go ahead. Even spend some money on it if you plan on staying a while. Better to see the game for yourselves IMO. Nonetheless, understanding what your really in for on the long run doesnt come in with a few week's worth gaming...but PWE atleast keep their games' graphics and eye candy up to date, even if their games are either a AFK bot fest or a grindfest that...that...err has anyone seen the .gif image where a doodle sitting in front of a pc starts out typing normally and then gradually nerdrages and goes on to bash its hand onto the keyboard into a red bloody pulp and...yep, hope you guys reading get the clue.
Its a so/so game to try out while your taking a break from your regular P2P game(s). Other than that you need to become one hell of a fanboi or just make so many friends in here that they outnumber your RL-Real friends to keep playing these kind of games after a few months, at most.
~~~
EDIT:two typos corrected
Thank you very much for spending your time to write such a long paragraph. Let me just summarize what you just stated: 1) It's an Asian F2P game. 2) It's a grind fest. 3) It's from perfect world International. So based on those three points, your conclusion is not to play this game. Am I right?
You also stated that you don't want people think that you are bashing this game, the hater style. But your comments just proved to us that you are the basher. You ate your own poop, you are a fool.
Diablo was click to move, I didn't mind.
Click to move is a fine option to have in a game, but never should be the only option.
Let me have the numpad, or WASD, or arrows, ANYTHING but just click to move.
I have been playing FFXI since release (for us round eyes that is) and have been dieing to see the next chapter for the entire time (FFXIV) if tomorrow I saw that FFXIV was click to move only, I wouldn't play it. Despite, what like.... 8 years of looking forward to it?
It's just that bad of a mechanic.
The fact that I could get to level 20 in an hour, without reading a single quest is what bothered me. Completing the quests required me clicking a link, going AFK while I ran there and then mindlessly killing XX mobs and then clicking on another link to run back and turn it in, AFK again. It's mindless, boring and trivial. This game might be entertaining if I played completely stoned, but I don't do that kind of thing.
If you enjoy this game, great, congratulations, have fun. But I wholly agree with the OP, this game is NOT for me.
