L4D2 boycott - how did that go?

expressoexpresso Member UncommonPosts: 2,218

With the release of the New DLC for L4D2 today (april 22nd) and the promised DLC for L4D1 to follow shortly, I was wondering if there are still people who have not bought L4D2.

I didnt, and neither did most of my friends.

We were originally hesitant to buy the original l4d as...well it just didnt seem to be 50 buck material, but when they released survival mode it sold us. When they decided to release a new game that is so similar to the original it should have just been dlc instead of dlcing it, well that just put the fork in it for me.

Im sure its a decent game, and if it ever gets cheap I may just pick it up, but till then its going in the same category as MW2, a game some people like that Im not buying based on my principles.

Sure Im not "hurting" them persay, L4D2 is a successful game, but just imagine how successful it could have been...all Im saying.

I wasn't even aware there was a boycott untill recently. I bought L4D2 a while back but regretted it instantly, played it for 2 days then uninstalled. After playing the the life out of the first one there just wasn't anything new enough in #2 to get me hooked.

I checked the boycott groups a few weeks after the L4D2 release and was shocked when i saw 50% of them playing L4D2 lol.

L4D and L4D2 are great games as long as you play with friends imo.

Loved L4D1 and love L4D2 even more. Waiting on the DLC, steam is known for being late with such things...

As for boycotting L4D2, I heard about it, I thought about it, and personally I felt that L4D2 was enough of an upgrade from L4D1 to warrent it being a seperate title. There is a definite difference in atmosphere between the two games, and the new undead types are fun and add a whole new dimension to versus gameplay.

I am still waiting for it to be dirt cheap then I might buy it. I tried the demo and it just did not appeal to me, liked the first one more.

The 'boycott' went nowhere. Most people in said group picked up the game almost straight away. Anyone who still stands by that mentality is simply denying themself of playing an awesome game, and the only one suffering is themselves.

haven't bought it and probably won't ever...

Only reason I bought L4D in the first place was that they promised to release lots of content patches like they are doing with TF2... that was basically their marketing strategy after the first reactions of players...

they didn't ---> they lied ---> they wanted 50 more bucks for stuff that could have been DLC ---> screw them...

There's dozens of custom campaigns and maps out there for L4D though... so who cares

oh yeah and boycotts never work because most people have the strength of will of half a slice of moldy pizza

  • Didn't buy it, neither have i touched modern warfare 2, or any ubisoft games lately. And now I don't play wow because of that retarded horse. I feel pretty good about it. Vote with your money people.

I bought l4d2 on release, people should do more research about comparing it to the first 1. It is similar in the sense that the game flow is the same. However with new guns, randomized levels and new infected as well as new game modes like the mutations, its worth it. Even if you aren't a fan of paying $50 for it, valve runs deals all the time getting people to buy it for cheaper. Black friday it was like $20 , I think, in retailers and $30 on steam as of recent. If its not your game thats cool I understand that. If you have a good group of friends that all played the first one and you think it is too similar...you should get one of your friends to buy the game so you can actually play it through. Melee weapons add a nice feel to the game as well.

They stated why they didn't put it as DLC, but I am sure those boycotting also decided not to read the article on that. :(

I am sorry if you don't feel it is worth it, however please do more research on the game before saying it is similar. Valve isn't there to rape you of your money. Either way try L4D2, the full version, pitch in with your friends to check it out. The feel is a lot different and if you don't see it then I am sorry. I noticed a difference when I picked it up and with them now bridging the 2 games plus more DLC to follow, it is truely a shame so many people are still trying to boycott it.
