Yeah I would also hate if that happened in eve, but it's not really what I was saying. I ment that skill gaining is way too sloooow on some parts of the game. Train months just be able fly one race HAC which they might next month nerf to death. Train week or two for skill is no problem or even one month, but training over month and multiple skills to make it take months is just too slow.

But there's very few things that take that level of skill training, frankly. Part of the deal in EVE is that you have to pick your poisons in terms of skills you want to focus on. Technically you can train them all up to level 5, but that will take forever, so instead of blocking you from training certain skills (like other MMORPGs do, where you can only train skills for your "class"), EVE's design makes you focus on a particular set of skills or sets of skills to get to very high levels unless you want to take forever training all of them to high levels.
Heavy Assault Ships are an elite ship. They are designed to take uber levels of training. It's much less time consuming, for example, to train a Battlecruiser or even a Battleship (although that takes time as well) than it is to train a Heavy Assault Ship because the latter is an elite ship and is supposed to be hard to fly and limited to an elite group of pilots. Same thing for assault ships, interceptors, etc. EVE's system basically says if you really want to fly an elite ship, you're going to have to be an elite pilot and take the time to train as an elite pilot (which most people won't do, due to the time, meaning that those who do take the time to do so are a less common "elite" group of pilots).
It's not just that. I sort of woke up one day and reliased how boring eve actually was. Might be just that I need break from it, but for now my account is going off after current billing cycle.
I liked eve, but one should be able to play a whole bunch, then be "high level". But in this, it does not mattter how much you play, cause you have to wait 30-45 days for the higher level skills..
So if you dont want to have to log on often, this is a good game for you, but if your a heavy gamer, and this is the only game you are playing, you will have WAY to much money for your skill level, and you will wander around alot waiting for your skills.
For me it wasn't the training time. Eh, 45 days while I sleep and do other things or 45 days of grinding away is still 45 days. I know which of the two I'd prefer *eyes stacks of unread books*.
The problem I had was those same books. I played EVE and after figuring out the autopilot I ended up running all over the galaxy on auto pilot just staring at the screen. 5-6m at a time of no interactivity. All the eye candy in the world won't going to be interesting for days, much less weeks. So in the end I was reading books while the game played itself. I'd get to the destination, deliver, pick up, set autopilot and then off it went while I finished the chapter. Hardly a game I'd consider paying for. Best to not pay for it and funnel that money into what was keeping me entertained, books.

You were just doing the wrong activity then. Maybe you should have tried a little PvP or mining in 0.0 space. If you're flying down in 0.0, you won't be reading any books, you will be constantly looking at local and map to make sure that you aren't warping into a camped system. You can't really expect the game to be fun if the only thing you are doing is mining or running trade runs in secure Empire space.

No, but I do expect, reasonably I feel, that the activities that a newbie was going to be engaged in might be reflective of the game at large. I mean I certainly wasn't spending 5-6m doing nothing in CoH a few hours after I started playing that MMORPG. Or in AC. Or AO. Or SB. Or Horizons.... In each of those games at least it was fun and engaging from the get go. What many of them lacked was fun and engaging things to do for weeks and years to come. I didn't see even that in Eve.
PvP? Ok, that's something a newbie wants to actively seek out and engage in before getting a handle on the game.
running through 0.0 space? I think I did that getting from where I was to the corp that I ended up joining about a week in. I say think because it was a rather long trip, I was in a particularly interesting part of my book and decided the couch was a better place to read until chapter end.
i dont use AP anymore .. as it takes too long, i use bookmarks which have to be done manualy, but make a 25 jump trip take about 20 min.
Gang mining and reading / writing work well, as long as you are a miner or tank.
CoH was fun for the first week, then i saw the endless grind ahead.. now i only play a couple time os of week for an hour or so, usualt just fly around and heal noobs. With abosolutely no pvp (combat or economic), no crafting, no trading there really aint much to the game, depth wise, although i will freely admit it was alot of fun, and i can see some people loving it more than most other mmo's.
EvE aint CoH though obvioulsy, completely diferent type of game. EvE is not an action packed adventure, unless you make it such. IF you place yourself in danger in eve, then you will have fun, although as the death penalty is somewhat prohibitive unless your smart about it, danger can be a game killer for some people.
As for training, there is no time when you have too much isk and not enough skills imho. Always the other way around. There are scores of skills to buy (not just the uber ship piloting skills), all the named eq, all the ships, POS, capital for trade endeavours, money for a rainy day, money to be lent to m8s, money for the sake of having a fat wallet that will cushion a bad week sometime in the future when you lose an indy full of minerals etc..
As for being an engaging game in the first weeks, and 2 years later, i can again say that i am as busy now, as i was in the first weeks. I think you perhaps needed a good corp to show you all the game has to offer, to support you in you chosen pursuits and provide the social inteaction that sets moo's aside from single player games.
PvP is not as scarry as everyone thinks, just dont take your only ship, with your best eq, and fly alone somewhere. Get with a corp, use Teamspeak or Ventrilo, use a frig with basic eq, fit warp corp stabilisers, and go have fun. An established corp can get you several frigs, laoded with eq, insurance and a clone without batting an eye, and they will be happy to have another ship in the fleet for a variety of reasons. I pvp daily in frigs, (cause im an industrial player mostly), i lose alot, but i have just as much fun as the guys sitting in BS, without any of the huge money loss.
Most importantly EvE will not tell you what to do, thats up to you, and if you cant figure out what to do and when etc.. on your own, or with a corp, then eve WILL bore you. The same way CoH bored me cause there was no choice, or diversity in things to do.
