Hey, at the moment i havent played any MMORPG for some months. I'm looking for something new at the moment, i noticed LOTRO was voted as best game on the rankings here, so is it really that good? I also heard it's mainly for people that like to play solo, is this also true because i prefer playing in group most of the time.
If anyone can give me some more info or can recommend me some other game it would help me a lot. (MMOs i played are wow, war, aion, aoc, darkfall. I enjoyed wow and war the most but i'm looking for something a bit different now)

It is indeed mostly solo. It's about as good as a WoW based solo heavy/instanced game can get. If you don't like that kind of game, then need not apply!
there's a free 10 day trial...best judge is yourself
Yep the trial is your friend. Personally I cannot understand why people play this but maybe it´s just not for me.
All statements I make is from my point of view unless stated otherwise.
Yea i'm downloading the trial right now, but it's 10GB so it will take a while. That's why i came here asking why this game is ranked so high
LotRO has probably the largest amount of solo content of any mmorpg game there is at lower levels. That's because they have been adding huge amounts of content, both free and paid for since the game was launched.
The established players have long since moved on to higher levels, so Turbine have made it easy and enjoyable for new players to level their characters. Once you get to higher levels, there is plenty of group content if that's what you want but plenty of solo stuff if not.
Maybe you try EQ2. Heard theres a mentor system so that high lvl characters can get the same lvl as a lowlvl to be able to do the same quests etc for a reward. In that case grouping shouldn´t be any problem. Dont know about the pvp though (saw u liked WAR). Just tried it a little myself and if my memory doesnt fail me there is some group special abilities that triggers between different classes. Maybe some1 else can fill you in better or another thread about the game if it sounds interesting.
Hmm, I seem to recall a streaming trial that let you start as soon as core files were downloaded.
Yeah, it's very good.
I remember reading something about that as well... I also read a lot of people were griping about the play quality lacking. I'd recommend just letting the entire client download... sure it'll take a while but then you get the complete experience from the beginning.
Never argue with an idiot. He will drag you down to his level, then beat you with experience.
The truth is you are the only one who can answer that question for yourself, but for me it is my favorite mmo I've ever played. I've played games with better pvp, I've played games with a larger community but when taking all factors into consideration LOTRO rates very high on every scale I see as important. The pvp is pretty weak as I remember it though I admittedly never fought another player just entered the zone a few times but the community is above all others and I don't really see it as a "solo" game, while alot of the game can be soloed the community is good enough you should have no problem finding a good kin just stick to one of the two most populated servers Brandywine I was always told is the most populated and Landrover is not far behind it as far as population goes and is additionally looked upon as the unofficial rp server.
but yeah, to call this game Fantastic is like calling Twilight the Godfather of vampire movies....
Well i thought there would be a specific reason why it's ranked first but i guess it's just overall a very good MMO.
I'll start the trial in about an hour and see if i like it
I was a WoW refugee. I came to LOTRO for the content of the Tolkien story interwoven throughout. I've been playing for over two years now, and it really is a game with something for just about every style of gamer. As already mentioned, there is a lot of solo-able material. I like PvE myself but there's a whole area devoted to Player versus Monster Player (PvMP).
With the Mines of Moria expansion, legendary weapons are introduced that can be named, socketed with stat-boosting relics, and that level when equipped.
And starting at level 30, with the Siege of Mirkwood expansion, there is a unique skirmish system that allows for objective-based, scalable instances for solo, duo, trio (small fellowship size), six person (normal fellowship size), 12-person, and 24 person parties.
There's also an Adventurer's Pack that gives you special in-game items--including a mount that will let you ride through the Mines of Moria (since horses aren't allowed there), and the ability to play up to 9 characters per server, so you can mix and match classes and races to find the "perfect hero" for you.
I know I sound like an ad, but I just really enjoy the game.
Good Luck in your search for the perfect MMO...
