mrputtsmrputts Member UncommonPosts: 284
I have been playing for a little bit now and i am looking for some help. It seems i can't get anything done. I only have so many hours playing due to working and having a life outside of games. I mean it takes me hours to get anywhere or do anything. So like i will start a quest and once i am about half way through it i will have to stop anyone have any ideas of what i can do to maximize my game experience with the little time that i get to play?

what you are finding out now is what made many of us FF lovers quit the online version.  you can't do anything unless you have 4 hours to play and a group of people you already know.  The alexander server that i played on never wanted to partner up unless they 'knew' you.  the only real help you'll probably get is from some japanese players or some other foreigner, that's how i got dragoon and ninja.

now for all you haters out there, i love FF, i liked the online game too, but like mrputts, i didn't have 10 hours everyday to play.  and going into the game i had no other RPG friends so it was me against the world, just like Mrputts. so my advice, if you want to stick around the game you really do have to make friends, lots of them, because you never know when someone else will quit, like all the people i met when i first started.  and with the fact that you don't have time to play, that's your downfall.  it takes on average 2hrs to find a party, and dont' waste your time or money synthesising either, it's not worth it.

good luck! sorry if this isn't what you wanted to hear, but that's my experience and the same of everyone i knew who played it.

If you're determined to hang in with the game I suggest you find a good linkshell, try several in the early days and the one that suits you is the one you'll stick with.  Buy the most current game guide.  For higher level help (which you'll certainly need, this game is impossible to solo) hang out in Jeuno.  You can either /shout for help there or wait to read a /shout for particularly what you want to do (if you're lucky)  The final resource you can use is look online for guides that will help you step by step through quests.  Good luck gamer!

this is not true at all....more false information on these forums...thats exactly whats needed ><

anyway, questing early is tough...you may want to wait til later on for most quests...best advice i can give you is level alot and get to a decent lvl with one job...then you can quest/farm for gil more efficiently....i dont suggest crafting early unless you find an easy way to make gil, but crafting is deffinitly not a waste of time when you have the gil to spend on it to take it high....its the #1 best way to make gil in the game that i can promise you.......

so do this, pick a job that you want as your main job...do some research to find out what role you want to play in and out of parties....remember this, the less lvling you have to do the more likely youll continue to play this game...so, make up your mind early and stick with your decision....the higher you get a job, the easier and more fun ffxi is =)

after you know what you want for your main job, do some more research to find out what support jobs go well with it...then decide which sub-job you want to go with....some things to remember..

    1. you can have a subjob at lvl 18, so lvl one job to 18 then do the subjob quest..
    2. at 30 you can start doing quests to open up all the advanced jobs..
    3. whatever your subjob is gonna be you only have to take it to 37 then you can lvl your main job all the way to 75.

after youve decided your main job, your subjob, and made a plan for what jobs you need to lvl up, then youre ready to start lvling...stick with whatever plan you make...when you get to lvl 25 find a linkshell with other ppl around your lvl and hopefully some higher lvls....

main thing you need to remember is there is alot of information you can find on your own on the internet....research research research!!  its always better if youre the guy that knows what hes doing then you being the guy that always asks for someone else to tell him whats going on ya know what i mean? =)

also, you can easily find lvling charts that tell you what lvls can fight at what places and what mobs to fight as well....i may make a starting out thread for this forum soon so come back in a few days and read through it if you want a more in depth explanation of anything i said here..GL man and  hope you stick around..this is a really great game!!

I totally agree with the finding friends thing. I found a linkshell in about 2 days of playing and it was awesome they always helped and all that. Also if you are trying to get money i recommend fishing image thats how i got almost all my money and i was able to afford pretty good armor, unfortunatly i stopped playing FFXI after about lvl 30 cuz i got bored with it and lack of money lol but it was a pretty good game.
