New Update Seemingly Confirms April Release

Slapshot1188Slapshot1188 Member LegendaryPosts: 17,694

http://www.mortalonline.com/content/under-development

Currently under development

April build and release content:

This is not a patch note, more an overall list of what to expect from the coming updates. This list, especially the later updates, may change depending on priority and feedback from the community.

• Update of Unreal Engine 3 and Atlas to latest build

• New network structure (fix for desync)

• Large optimization on server

• New monitoring tools (anyone using any hacking program or similar not allowed third party program or tools will be instantly permanently banned, anyone altering or hacking game files in any way will be instantly permanently banned)

• AI update

• Weapon & armor balancing

• MassiveLOD and sublevel optimization on many areas for better client performance

New content:

• Lore, a short description for each race

• New creatures added

• Creature population better adjusted to the environment

• New horse mounts (each with their own stats)

• Several new locations (caves) in Myrland

• City optimization where it’s most needed, most buildings now accessible

• Tower in Fabernum now accessible

• All new dungeons/caves have gotten a face lift to show the capability of future graphics in MO (still no high res textures yet)

Small patch shortly after April patch:

• Murder Count system updated with a short term and long term counter, one for Red Flag status and one for Stat Loss status

• Several updates to Thievery

• Bug fixes

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Take note of the two sections I highlighted.  One clearly is titled: April build and release content. The bottom one is titled : Small patch shortly after April patch.

So it seems to confirm it will release in April and then have a small patch sometime in May to add the rest...

Like all things SV though.. it needs more clarification.

Hmm, I do not think it need more clarification. They summed it up pretty good imo. What did you clarify that they did not with that text?

I like the news, I cannot wait to try it with the lates Atlas build and new UE! And even more content, get it out already for us to try please! =)

Somehow I anticipate the game will not launch within the next week and that May 1st will see people posting threads about this announcement being a lie.

In a (possibly vain) attempt to forstall that thread, I would like to point out that at most this announcement from Starvault implies an April launch.  "Release" may well refer to the release of the April build, not to the release/launch of the game.

Well at least you agree that on April 23rd they are IMPLYING that they will release by the end of the month.  Obviously at this point they KNOW what they are doing next week... so either they are IMPLYING something they know isn't true.. or they are releasing next week...

Guess we see in a few days.

I would agree - and so far, they haven't.  The release date is still TBD.

I may be speaking too soon but it seems like SV are starting to get MO back on track (has it been on track?). They still haven't convinced me to buy the game yet, but I'm really hoping some flowers grow out of this promising bowl of dirt.

"AT MOST" ---At the most; at a maximum or upper limit   imply--To express in a suggestive manner rather than as a direct statement

I.E. The greatest signifigance you can draw from the statement is that it was suggested that the game may launch this month.

I do not agree that they are implying the launch of the game.  I agree that one interpretation of the statement is hinting at an April release.  A strictly literal imterpretation is that they intend to release an April patch with the features listed (with the usual caveat that delays are a fairly common issue in MMOs)

One more thing to consider when "analyzing" posts from MO devs:  English isn't their primary language.  While they generally do a very good job with English, they have been and will be imprecise with its use.  That should not be a surprise.

With this system, they've started giving out a little more information.  That's a good thing.  No need to make assumptions, or read into it.

I am simply amazed that all the fans have been trained to expect the worst.   One month ago the company issued a release saying they were delaying the game for another month.  That is the last we heard from them until this.  Since they have not stated that there will be a further delay (longer than the month), why would you say we are maklng assumptions when SV hasn't posted anything contradicting a release in April?  It seems like the assumptions are being made by the people assuming the delay will be extended again...  This could of course be correct, but I have never before seen a community that more frequently assumes that they know what the company will do as opposed to what the company has said they will do...

And yes Osmunda I know they said they would publish an actual DATE at a later time... still, a month is a month and they should simply tell folks if it's going to be longer...

As I said.. at this point they 100% know if they are releasing in April.  Why not simply post if there is a futher delay?  Why wait until April 30th?

Then again.. we are still waiting for that announcement the Dev said would be coming in a day or two regarding the billing/subscription issues and that was 16 days ago...

There is a long post about this on the MO forum.  I do not believe the post suggests an April release. . all material so far in the game is going to be in release. . the ESL thing though. . hard to say what they mean sometime.  I just find it difficult to believe they would "announce" release through a dev blog etc.

I think it is just poor wording - mind you I think that what they have in that patch will be what we see on release. . .just that it didn't mean they are releasing in april. . so . . last "content" patch before release.

Again, when they said "another", did they mean it as "one more", or did they mean it as "a month other than March"?

I don't know, and I'm not going to read into it.

When they put out an exact date - something they haven't done yet - then I'll go with that.  Until that time, knowing full well how often MMOs get delayed, I'm not going to get freaky about it.

One thing I'm sure about - I don't want them to release the game until they've fixed some of the bigger problems it has.  If that takes longer than "another" month, I'll be glad.  I know that'll piss off the forum lawyers who hyper-analyze verbage, and who are looking for ammo to slam SV for breaking a "promise", but if we get a better game at launch because of it, that's fine with me.

You guys REALLY crack me up.... This sounds like Clinton debating the what the meaning of "is" is, but that's OK.   As long as you are happy that's all you really need to worry about.

I did see that thread.  What is most curious though is that I am sure that the developers and the Community Manager did as well.  Why not simply clarify it?

As for the ESL thing... OK.. if you are going to market to a predominantly English speaking community AND make English the primary form of communication perhaps their Community Manager should be up to the task of properly communicating in that language?

Whatever though.. it's all about having fun and as long as YOU are having fun, by all means proceed!  I just personally see a pattern of deception an questionable ethics that pervade everything they have done since they opened Pre-Orders.  But that's just my opinion.

Similar to the billing issue that has not been answered despite a MOD and a DEV saying they would get an answer.  I get that . . and their not responding to the release date question could be the same thing. .  .BUT. . the april release date I think is questionalbe to get from that. . should it be though. . not at all.  I agree.

I agree, they could be more savvy with their communications.  They are obviously not the most experienced or professional organization around.  Still, if they can't nail down something like their release date with some certainty, I'm not surprised they don't put one out.  The MMO community as a whole isn't homogeneous, and as such, is a pretty crappy group.  There are people who are demanding a date, simply with the hope that they can't meet it, and therefore can use that to continue to bash them.  Happens in every game.  Those types aren't really interested in the game, or information, just in continuing their obsessive negative word of mouth campaign.

How pathetic is that?  Over a game.

As I said above.  As long as YOU are happy you don't need to worry about anyone 'continuing their obsessive negative word of mouth campaign'.  Just go enjoy your game!

Liking MO doesn't make you a bad person.  Nor do I feel compelled to belittle you, or the MMO community in general by calling us all part of a "crappy group".  Nor will I ever call you "pathetic" .  My beef is 100% with the company and their (in my opinion) continued unethical behavior.  So again.. enjoy the game!

If misinformation campaigns had no possible ill effects on an MMO, it'd make sense to ignore them.

    But, they do.

Keep following your beliefs, and shining your light of truth.  I'll do the same.

There's inexperience and incompetence, then there's malicious intent.  It's hard to tell the two apart, sometimes.  I don't believe that SV has habitually engaged in actual unethical behavior, but that they are indeed inefficient and inexperienced, which hasn't allowed them to predict very well, or to produce the best product to date.

As a followup.. some guy posts 3 questions on the main forum.  The main one was pretty much just asking if the Update was in fact confirming release of the game in April. #2 was if there would be a wipe.. (of course there will be) and #3 was just him saying he wanted to buy the game...

Henrick the CEO actually responds a few posts down and totally ignores the guys question.  Why would he do that?  Why wouldn't he just say "No it's not releasing this weeK" or "Yes we still plan on releasing this week unless the patch blows up..."
