wow ground mounts

with the release of cataclysm will come the ability to ride flying mounts anywhere, so what will come of land mounts? is there any incentive to keep using them at times or are they pretty much obsolete?

If they are obsolete, they are obsolete. Games change and we just have to live with them.

I would imagine the ability to use a flying mount will still be reserved to high level players.

If not, I would replace the land based mounts you buy from NPCs at levels 20 and 40 with flying mounts, and I would create a quest or series of quests for low level players to complete in order to obtain a land based mount to use until they have the necessary funds to purchase a flying mount.

I don't think that you will be able to fly in all areas. So they will be still useful.

Like it is now on outlands and northrend  flying mounts will only be usable outdoors, indoors in cities and such, only ground mounts can be used.

This is already what we are used since BC so I dont understand why this stupd questions about obsolete ground mounts are always popping, why didnt they get obsolete in BC and WOTLK? Besides, the fly skill its still only availabe after lvl 60

Now the point of ground mounts which WAS the question the OP asked (note that the question was not, is blizzards evil cash shop really evil, which by the way, it is), will be that you can use them..... wait for it..... untill your high enough level to buy a flying mount.

They may make ground mounts obsolete for high level players, new players will still have to ride around on a tiger or a wolf from level 20 to level 60.

PS the steed might be Bind TO account (Bind on account what does this yoda speak mean blizzard?) but the riding skills are not.

Perhaps the cities will be no-fly zones (like Dalaran). Considering they said the reason they made Dalaran no-fly was to make it feel more like a city.. which Shattrath fell down on since everyone was just flying around.

We'll have to wait and see.

We don't really know anything about how flying mounts will work in Cataclysm yet except that at some point we will be able to fly in at least parts of old Azeroth. I imagine that there will be a level limit, a significant gold amount and some other restrictions as to where you can fly similar to Dalaran... It's all speculation at this point though until they actually give us all the details.

I have never been a fan of flying mount.. it was the final nail in the coffin in regards to WoW world PvP and I think also reduces what blizzard can do with the world, no longer can they wall off an area so players all wonder what is behind.

A compromise would be limited flight time, your flying mount has to rest so you'll get say 10mins of fly time an hour there will ofc be pots etc to allow longer flying.  Wont happen but would be nice.. for me anyway.

They will just turn all mounts into flying mounts.

Let's play Fallen Earth (blind, 300 episodes)

Let's play Guild Wars 2 (blind, 45 episodes)

limiting the flying time is not really practical (and biggest problem i had with aion tbh) and its not really necessary, its not like it gives you a tactical advantage in pvp - you can't call a mount if i your in combat after all, and your mount has a tendency to dissappear if you take significant enough damage anyway, as has already been stated, if your not level 60, you won't be able to use a flying mount anyway - in northrend you need cold weather flying (level 77) to be able to use one, and im sure they could do something similar in the cataclysm expansion - which meant that you need to be level 82 or something before you can use a flying mount in the 'new' areas...Blizzard are good at what they do so i don't think they'll mess this one up somehow.
