They haven't released all the information on the Shadows yet, they said any day now they will (and as always I will repost the info here for no one to read :-) ).
But they have basically said that the shadows will have the same strengths and weaknesses as humans and that they want it to be a mostly cosmetic decision on which you want to play. But like other races they will have different free trained skills and they have mentioned the new races will start with an augment (you can run a couple quests once a month to get an augment that costs lots of your xp to use, these augments forever improve your character).
But it sounds like there should be more information soon. They also said a tentative April patch day of the 13th.
If you want to take that route then I could argue that if they spent their time fixing network code, more new players would actually be able to connect to the game. Right now a decent percentage of people can't even play AC because of incompatible routers, modes, or ISPs.
Or maybe the game would be better off if they spent time adding an auction house, mail system, better map, a real quest tracker, or some other kind of functionality that Decal has to provide. Adding what is now common basic game functionality in other MMOs would help retain new and current players.
How about rubber banding? That still drives me crazy after all these years. It's not normal and I'm sure new players are bothered by it especially.
You do realize that it's a separate group of people working on each issue right?
I'm sure the people modeling new races aren't the same that would work on compatibility issues and rubber-banding.
On another note, I hope they never add auction houses / quest tracker / mail system etc. yes that is what new games have, but it isn't what makes AC great.
There's a difference between refreshing the AC experience and changing what AC is.
Auction house would be great, or like i've read about having some sort of store that is built into the client that you could run. rather than having to get a 2nd account to run a bot.
As for the quest tracker they do have a journal that should be in-game now...
i wanted to check it out when i read about it but sadly my system is way to advanced and i have lots of graphical glitches now. Seems i would need to find some old computer parts and build a low-end system just to play again :-/
I just can't wait for something new with a new client and newer mechanics to come out, but hopefully retain most of the aspects that make Asheron's call great.

Not true, I have a brand new system and AC runs without any issue at all. You don't need an old system to run it.
If you go with an ATI card (why?) over NVidia, you might get a card where you have to uncheck the landscape detail texture box because some ATI cards will cause the ground to be grey with it checked.

Signed. The game works perfectly even on my Netbook (Samsung NC10) with its crappy onboard Intel graphics. Not a high-end machine (1,6 GHz CPU) but yet pretty new. Most "modern" games won't run anymore on this weak box that clearly isn't made for playing (high-end) games. But I'm thankful for each single minute I don't have to boot my main PC that is just too loud (I guess my Tinitus stems from that cruel machine).
I think it's rather lame that some shadows have no legs yet they equip leggings and solls. I understand why, it would be imbalanced otherwise (Shadows would have less area to take damage) and they wouldn't be able to equip as many majors/epics. Still it seems very game-ish. And by game-ish I mean it doesn't seem logical. It's only the result of having to address a flaw in the way the game was originally designed. I haven't tested it, but I'm sure it also says in combat "You hit Shadow Person in the foot for 50 damage" even though they don't really have any feet. It doesn't make sense.

Shadows are the new race.
Will they have the same vulnerability to fire?

Sev just said on the official forums that fixing the networking problems are on his todo list! Just made my day.
Now if only they could fix rubber banding.

If they added Tumeroks(sp) from AC2 I would give AC1 a shot personally.
They have 3 more races to go, a lot of the rumor/buzz has been lugian, tumeroks, empyreans so I will see you in game in a few months :-) .

Should have only added the ones with legs IMO.
Yah, if the rumors are true then yah you will see me in-game for sure, lol. Question, does AC1 have instrument playing like they did in AC2 by chance?
