Looking for a new game to play. I played this a couple years ago but had trouble with it because I never found anyone else to play with, huge learning curve.. soooo much to figure out and I felt really alone O_O.
I assume if I were to start it up again i'd experience the same thing so i'm not sure what i'm really getting at except curious of how the game has progressed in the past few years.
Current MMO: WoW/GW2

I started in 2008 so wasn't around when you first played, but I can tell you that you'll probably experience the same learning curve. However once you climb it, EVE has more to offer than nearly any other MMO in existence. Read through the threads here about the Dominion expansion (currently live), as well as Tyrannis (coming soon, introduces planetary control and exploitation, which will tie in to the FPS game set in the same consistent EVE universe called DUST 514), and some loose information on Incarna (station walking with some social features probably, and again a tie-over space into the DUST 514 player base). EVE has a lot to offer even as it is today. I'd recommend sticking through the learning curve, applying to join EVE University if you're having trouble, and get excited about what New Eden has to offer you
Currently playing: LOTRO, Guild Wars 2.
Have played: EVE Online; Champions Online; Age of Conan; City of Heroes/Villains; Star Wars Galaxies (pre-CU, pre-NGE); World of Warcraft (Vanilla to Cataclysm); Hellgate: London; Warhammer Online; Lord of the Rings Online; Vanguard: Saga of Heroes; Star Wars: The Old Republic
Wishlist: Mass Effect Online
Well 14-day trials are still free - why dont you check out the new and expanded New Playre Experience for yourself?
And yeah, it's changed just a little in the past 3.5 years I've been playing...
Give me liberty or give me lasers
nobody to play with? dang im getting tired for people bugging me all the time to do anoms or to FC a fleet. wish i had your problem hahah.
Oh you prolly have no idea what im talking about. people want me to help them kill npcs that are very profitable, or take out a grp of people for PVP.
I started playing with my main a few months before you and at that time it was like that.
A lot of advice people give to you is that you MUST find a corp, so you look at the recruitment forums or the recruitment channel and theres alot of spam and nothing which is noobie friendly at first.
Give it a little time to look around to see if theres any nice corps around doing things that interest you.
Some corps will say no, and thats just eve you can't make them or otherwise they don't want to go through the steps of teaching people how to play the game.
The npc corp you're in can be good for conversations and getting help. It may lead to someone suggesting a corp etc you may want to join, or you could just go form one yourself. Either way take a bit of initiative ingame or the forums and you'll probably have people convoing you to join in with them. There may some poor corps as suggested above but thats like
most games with guild structures.
Couple corps people suggest often here, are EVE UNI and Red vs Blue. First one is a teaching corp for new guys second is actually two corps Red Federation and Blue Republic and they are more about having on tap pvp.
Have a chat with either or some other group you like the look of and take it from there.
Hope you find what you're looking for.
Thanks for the informative posts . I'll have to download the trial and give the game a go. I think steam has a 14 day trial or something along those lines. What kind of playstyles does this game cater to? Will I be PVP'ing a lot or are there other fun things to do?
Current MMO: WoW/GW2
The eve website itself has a 14 day trial, it's always been there and probably always will be. You could also ask any EVE player on this forum to send you a 21 day free trial. You get an extra week free and if you sub with that account they get credited a free month.
As for playstyles...any, really. Just depends what you want to do. Small gang pvp, large fleet warfare, pirates, miners, haulers, traders, crafters of thousands of different types of items, exploration, mission runner, wormhole explorer, etc.
Basically if you can imagine doing something in the game, there's probably a good chance you can find a way to do it. Just play it as you like. The most important thing in this game is to find out what you like, find some people who also like it, and do it. Anyone who says you have to play a specific way is a moron and you should ignore them.
The tutorial has also been VASTLY upgraded since you last played and the new player experience should be a lot smoother and more helpful.
See, I dont get it really, when people say its hard to find anyone to play with.
My main attraction to MMO's is the 'massive' amounts of people available to play with. I was asking questions and chatting to people about advice within a few days of doing the trial - I think the main difference is I chatted to people in the starting CORP! I never spoke in the rookie channel.
Remember that once you leave the starting corp you can NEVER go back! - Therefore the majority of people in that corp are just like you!.. new to the game and just like you looking for advice and people to do things with.
I've made more friends, who I still know today than in any other mmo.
