Aika Community Manager Christina Kelly answered a number of our own Garrett Fuller's questions about the five nations in the upcoming MMO.
MMORPG.com:
Tell us the history behind the five nations in the game?
Christina Kelly:
Aika's five nations are the keystones of our massive PvP. They're politically autonomous entities with separate populations, and the web of alliances and rivalries between them is a large part of what makes Aika's PvP - and, really, the game as a whole - so compelling. The nations are five separate but identical instances of the world of the game - imagine if different countries on Earth had the same geography, major cities, landmarks, and so on but their own collective identities, military leadership, and domestic intrigue.
We decided from the start to give each nation a distinct personality-based description, one that's also reflected in each nation's name and flag, in the hopes that players and guilds would find something that resonated with them and fostered a sense of pride and community (see below). New players can try out life in different nations as they please, and then starting at level 10 they are encouraged to apply for citizenship in a particular nation, which then becomes the one that all characters on their account are bound to upon login. Choosing a nation is a distinct rite of passage in Aika, since you can't join a guild or participate in any of the major PvP systems until you have a nationality. Additionally, acquiring citizenship status opens up another social world within the Aika community where players can find friends and feel at home. On the Aika website there are forums for each nation, where citizens or would-be citizens discuss the latest relic raids or the actions of the ruling regime, participate in guild recruitment, and generally find common ground as people who share a specific environment within the game.

Shoulda posed the question. "So do you think Gala will go through with the enforcment of blocking NON-NA IP's"
Should ask why Asian MMOs keep releasing and failing in global markets
I've been ignoring the huge ads on this site for this game, but this is nation system sounds interesting. I will check it out.
DONT try to play this game, walk away. Aika fail us all! they DONT fix the major problem. Goldspammer have control teh entire game. NO one can chat easily no more. You have to block them every HOUR. gpotato told us "we're working on it" for like one and half month now. still the same. they also lock ppl's posts from dicussing gold spammer but they dont lock the goldspammer in game.
Now they try to kick players outside NA but they DONT kick gold spammers. the other major problem is quests. The information is WRONG. example: the quest siad kill A but actually you should kill B in order to finish the quest.
Don't want make devil's advocacy, but recently I had no spamming ingame, forum posts went blocked because the trolling, and the few quests with mob name wrong were corrected. This game was translated recently, so the mob and npc name errors. The non-NA ip block is due to contract terms with the developer, who licensed to GPotato the NA area, it is not an intentionally wanted discrimination. If you in NA area, and wanna try the game, just get the client and give it a try. So if you like it or don't, will be your judgement, not someone else's.
Cheers^^
Another day, another F2P review, another thread with posts telling tales of woe. You can’t have a free lunch or a free MMO, you either end up paying of leave the other diners to pick up the bill.
Well said.
But nothing new. In my opinion today´s curse is not if it is cash shop OR P2P (ok, the pricing maybe). Imo the gamers worries today should be about monthly fee AND item shop. Or DLC.

On topic: I hope, their community is big enough to be succesfully divided into 5 parts. If so, then it would sound interesting - the rest of the gameplay aside.
I have to say they fixed the spammers and botters...in any mmo you will still see this in some capacity unfortunately tho...
As far as the IP block, this was never supposed to be or advertised as, a global version...it was always entended as NA only...shrug...I hate to loose players but in all honesty...they should have been blocked from the start...
I am enjoying the game, could it be better...yes...with some simple UI fixes too...but I am still liking it so far...
One thing you should have asked is why they do not have more of a population cap or balancing system...main complaint is out of 5 nations most are flocking to the one that has the most relics...which in turn makes them with the larger player base...which in turn makes them more powerful and the nation with the most relics...this is creating an inbalance in game and it may be the death of it for me...I don't like winning easily and I don't like 'not having' a fighting chance...so what nation should I play with?? I am willing to give it more time though to see what they do about this problem...
lol they dont thats the problem this game is facing like all the other title using same model.
asian and the allies want to milk the cow ,so lawyer tell them why release 1 version when you can licence and release more version more money to you and almost no cost
they adopt this thinking its a great idea since they dont have money to open server for 200 k plus concurrent user per day
even at say 4000 per server that still means they ll need 50 server lot of those game dev never thot about that part till the last second.
then they face bankrupcy or deal with the galanet style of business since last i check most publisher dont dont global
world wide can be a bitch because of legal issue of different country.
so they buy these small time liicence and often in the process killing potentially great game
most of full global game do very well .in fact i wonder the one global licenced or not that dont do well.
some have adopted hybrid thoses do fair but they dont pull in the number global game do
like perfect world they do hybrid they have one part global and one part asia ,i can understand this model since just in asia alone it beats pretty much all market alone.350 million gamer in chaina alone thats just one small part of asia lol india is right beside them lol.
Is it still on CBT?

I was looking for something F2P with interesting PvP, where Runes of Magic utterly disappointed me. Aika looked worth exploration.
I admit disappointment when I understood that the "five nations" are literally all living in the same map/zones, they just can't see each other. Clever tech to solve a problem of content... and a really cheap solution. Boring for players, though; at least in DAoC, each realm had unique characterization and new topography to explore.
I may still poke around before making a decision - "free" has the advantage that there's no cost to TRY a game, except your valuable time.
They havnt stoped the spammer or the botters on my nation. The spammers are not as plentifull since the restricted shouting to lvl 10 but the high end areas are full of bots. I just logged on 15 mins ago and Ruins of Algon has so many bots there is no way to finish quests. This is dispite the fact that I have been following Gpots instructions and reporting the bots every day for 2 weeks THATS 14 DAYS STRAGHT!!!. At this moment the EXACT same bots are still in Ruins of Algon and they have been there all month. This game could have been enjoyable and I would stay despit loosing my guild to the IP block. But after lvl 40 it gets near impossable to lvl due to the bots.

I read this and got interested untill I saw gpotatoe. My interest waned and I dont plan on looking into this game. A few other things stood out for me in the interview such as one nation getting powerhouse status and everyone ends up loading into that nation making the game completely lopsided. I have played games like that and they just are not fun in the long run. The whole reason to play such a game is the nation to nation pvp aspect and when that is gone in any meaningfull way what is left? Grind and not much else.
A game like that needs to have some form of balancing mechanism to keep one nation from getting out of control such as population limits etc. Without it they ultimately fail as all the disheartened players leave or everyone joins the one good faction.
Looks like there are a few people here that never played before.
Any new game will have some growing problems..including Gold Spammers/Bots. The complaints about both will continue long after the problem has been addressed.
This was especialy true of AIon who took about a month or so to clear up most gold spam.
The spammers/Bots will not go away completly unless there is no business to be had. Unfortunatly any decent game doesn't have this problem because of a large enough player base willing to buy services.
Well I have to say they were able to lessen the gold spammers and the bot infestation. I haven't played for awhile but when I logged in again I was surprised to see that it is improving so far. I hope they can continue in maintaning this healthy in-game environment.... Anyway, do you guys think Aika Global will be worth playing when it launches? I'm kind of waiting to try it out once it's out in the market already.
if it was global and accesssable i would play it in a heartbeat its a great game!but not great enough to be american only
the worst!it will be global but american will be ipblocked from t3fun end.so no global for america
one big reason why most of the pvp player left .no use playing a game that isnt global!global mmo avail everywhere are still relativly rare so those that do have the market all to themselves!
hehe, also should ask : "Will the item in the item mall price jacked up high to a ridiculous level in the first couple of weeks? Much like other gpototo games? *cough* Allods *cough*"
