Great news Tasos! I'll be checkinjg thegame out again and this time maybe there's hope for non-cheaters and non-exploiters. Good sense finally arrives! Now the "regulars" will find out that they have to actually have skill to win in PVP.

if you are the type of person who assumes everyone who has a  better char than you or is better than you is a cheater and exploiter and you quit the game b/c of grind, Darkfall isn't for you.

it seems you made a typo, you said "regulars" isntead of "whiney babies who blame the game for why they suck".  DF wasn't supposed to be made for the masses but seems like AV is continually dumbing things down.  Its too bad for those players who actually put forth the effort and played legit, but what do the whiners care about them?  they only care about having more hp so they can't blame that particular thing anymore for why they suck, they will have to blame something else and quit again.

Oh well another carebear exactly what this game needs. Hoping Tasos is rethinking this BS cause it will kill the game for lots of players.

I'm glad you're giving it another shot yourhead. I too am very happy they have started making changes in favor of balancing PvP.

The vets who are whining about this are pathetic. The grind has not been reduced at all. They are just upset that noobs are going to have more of a chance against them when they grief. It is beyond pathetic and I have absolutely no sympathy for them whatsoever. This game was always advertised as a hardcore PvP game... now that the PvP is becoming more hardcore, they're getting scared. I hope every single player with that mentality quits now... the game will only benefit without them.

Any word on the PVE servers and if they are going to allow free Transfers?

I've always thought the whole "<insert game here> isn't for you" thing was just crazy talk, I may not agree with the way a person plays but I certainly want them to play and enjoy the same game as me if possible.  And why are pvp players so down on "carebears" to me it's like the lions trying to drive away the wildabeast.  What's going to continue to hurt DF I think is the reclusive and sometimes elitist attitude of this part of the pvp population.

but yeah, to call this game Fantastic is like calling Twilight the Godfather of vampire movies....

Lol the game doesn't HAVE lots of players. And if the progression curve is changed in the way indicated, I'll also re-sub.

I like the game very much but spending months of not being able to scratch my ass without some jerk two shotting me, well, it's just not fun.

Trash if you're scared then you can do something about it and still enjoy PVP. Just practice more. You don't have to have better stuff than everyone else to enjoy what was supposed to be a PVP game...you just have to fight people insttead of walls is all. Have fun!

It doesn't need to have tons of players Darkfall IS NICHE its a game for people with a different mindset all this chance will do is pissing off those that put in the effort payed Tasos $ AND enjoyed the game.

Cmon, you really believe that adding more players to the game is a bad thing in the long run?  EVE's a niche game with about 30X the subs of DFO and yet we still welcome more players.

Sure, we don't need millions, but don't object when CCP makes changes that improve the player experience for a greater number of subscribers and while I'm sure some have rage quit over one change or another, overall the games sub base keeps slowly growing, so its good for EVE and us players overall.

You can't really fear this change that much, it just means that other people will have HP numbers closer to you sooner, which should be good overall for a PVP game based on 'player skill' and not due to gear or PVE grinding.

I don't think Aventurine worked for over 8 years having in mind to create a "niche" game, they thought to make a revolutionary game which would compete with the biggest ones and they did, however they did not foresee the many things that today makes Darkfall a niche game and the most important of them is the human desire of always winning and never lose. Although I like the game and don't complaint for many things I understand that it is not funny for most people lose all their gatherings to a red or to be in a siege with their clan mates to be only cannon fodder; most people would not support this sort of game for long.

However I am still here because I really think the game has potential and Aventurine far from hearing criers, they are really interested in fixing wrong things. And one of the unavoidable things to happen (if Aventurine wanna attract new gamers) are safe zones to people to develope their characters in peace.

Some hardcore players will protest because their possibilities to farm easy loot get far from them but this move would attract a lot of players who enjoy others aspects of the game besides PVP.

These safe zones could have (for example) more powerful towers or just cities or areas where no weapon can get in or no harmful spells can be casted and when players feel confident enough to PVP they can leave these zones and fight other players in the clans warfare or in the raid of racial enemies.

Myself never got to the game for the PVP aspect but only because living in sandbox game world with rich aspects and traveling in a continent where I would not be safe from player bandits and player racial enemies seemed attractive and realistic to me.

Today, 4 months later, I have 290 hps and my fighting skills are near the surging but I still act like a newbie, I never take out reagents with me or never take the finest armors and weapons unless I am pretty sure I will not lose it (travel with clan mates or little visited spawns, etc.), still today for me, finding a red represents death, so no many people would stay in a game where 4 months later still others can kick your butt in three hits. That is the reason why Darkfall is a niche game.

I only can say that Aventurine is in the right road and that future changes will standarize the game to open it to some people that gives a cucumber for PVP and want enjoy other aspects of the richness of Agon.

10,000 players? I must be doing something wrong because darkfall has always felt like a single-player game for me. Oh, and anyone that says the game is "niche" in response to someone saying that the pop is low probably doesnt understand basic math. Nobody spends millions on a video game and then claims to be satisfied with barely a couple thousand subs. Why do you think they are going to change the way HP increases? they need more players. niche, lol plz...

I am excited for the changes because hopefully many people will resub .. . just think of how much funner this game will be when the population booms!!

I do not think that they should make the grind easier because it is pretty good how it is if you are a mage killer/destroyer spec. Hopefully these new prestige classes will make it so that people are not all trying to grind for everything.

The HP is definitely a huge change though that will allow brand new players to put much more of their player skill to use! I think that a character will be able to take on vents now within their first month if they have the proper training and configure their UI/controls better than the average DFO player (aka gaming keyboard or autohotkey macros) if the HP formula is changed enough.

Even more exciting is the possibility of a large population increase!

That they are. It seems like many people are starting to resub and with Adventurine inviting people back tomorrow we should see a population increase.

I too will resub if the change is indeed substantial.  I haven't seen specifics yet, so I can't tell if this change will be enough on its own to make me not feel like a helpless whipping boy for 3 months.  Maybe combined with prestige classes or some sort of specialization where you didn't have to grind up every single thing to be competative, it would be enough.  Hopefully that's how it ends up but I don't see both the HP thing and prestige classes being implemented for a few months.  AV is slow.

That being said I'm really glad they finally addressed the grind seriously at least in words if not action yet.

Guys, I don't mean to burst you all's bubble, but remember who we are dealing with here. Tasos, the same dude who claimed so many features, yet maybe a third were incorporated into the final product. Now, with that in context, don't hope for anything worthwhile (see skill decay and/or skill cap, which the community overwhelming wants a hard skill cap. See the forums for more information, preferably Korn Kob's posts. He has outlined so many polls that overwhelming vote "yes" to a hard skill cap, not to mention this was an original feature slated for incorporation into the release product, but that's for another discussion.)

With that being said, I'll admit that I am timidly excited about these two major updates (HP recalculation and Prestige Classes). From what I understand, these classes seem to be AV's fix to a hard skill cap. The HP recalculation is something the game has needed for quite a while now. As you can see, the vocal few over at the forums don't like this change. Hell, this is the same vocal minority who screamed "Trammel" in regards to the newbie protection. Don't ask me why these so-called "vets" want ganking as a newbie experience, all I have to say is I'm really getting sick and tired of people saying "we had it hard, newbies should have to experience what we did." That is probably the weakest/dumbest argument I've heard yet. This isn't real life people, and no, this game should cater to what it originally was going to cater to: FPS players wanting the RPG experience.

If this game is going to stay afloat (judging by the thread with rough numbers on population on EU/NA servers), the game is going to HAVE to cater more towards the newbie experience. In my honest opinion, there isn't really a grind in this game anymore, but groups are encouraged for faster skill gains. This isn't a single player game people.

    Will be updated later.

You dont wanna have this discussion again, do you. Game launched with almost any of the promised features and those that wasn't in release were announced that they will not make to the launch.

Doesn't this destroy Tasos's credibility though? Why do people continue to give this company money with all of this in respect? He blatantly lied to the playerbase, saying specifically that the game was "feature complete". How can you justify that, I don't care how long ago it was, a liar is a liar. I won't believe anything he says until I see it working in the game as it was intented to work.

    Who cares?

The game is very fun how it is now . .. I will gladly continue to pay and keep playing even if there was not going to be another patch.

I understand how frustrating it can be to be new where your HP is low and your skills/stats are several month behind the top clans, but keep in mind that there are many ways to have an advantage over the average DFO player outside of your skills/stats . .. most people do not duel or PVP very often and most people have an awkward UI/control setup. If someone were to start the game focusing on these things first, than I doubt that the kill vs death ratio would ever be bad (even during the first month).

I was working on making a video on what it is like to PVP on a 24 hr fresh toon to encourage new players and to show how player-skill does immediately come into play. I may wait until the new HP changes come into effect . ... increases the chances of frapsing a brand new person soling a group of other newer players!  heh
