Differences between the ATI 5850 and 5830 ?

It is a toss up between the 5830 and the 5850 ? Anyone know how much better the 5850 is compared to the 5830 ? Thanks for the help! I currently use the Nvidia 240 GT.

It would be more appropriate to call the HD5830 the HD5790 because thats what it is.  Its performance is on par with the top range of last generation.  Its about 30% lower performance then the HD5850.

General rule of thumb in my book is you never buy the low end of a given generation.  Too much is cut out of the hardware and the midrange product is basically always worth the price for much better performance.  Well, that's how it was a few years ago at least and every year before that.  I don't think it has changed.

Edit:  This principle is one for Graphics Cards.  Other computer components can be very different here (though one should always be careful about the low-end products and research the decision carefully).

You could go to wikipedia.org and type in ATi GPU and nVidia GPU.

All information that you need is there.

Just head for the review sites to get an idea of the speed of the 5830. Guru3d's review shows the 5830 to be scarcely faster than the 5770s, and far below a 5850 in performance. Cleffy is really right when he says it should be called the 5790. It's price is really just too high for what it does, so either save some money and get a 5770, or plop down a little more than the 5830's price tag and get a 5850. Either is a great card for its price, while the 5830 is not, because despite being a good card Ati needs to rethink the pricing.

Isn't this how all low-end cards are?
