Rift: Planes of Telara is also another MMOG announced using a dynamic system. Without a lot of official evidence to see just how dynamic they are taking these MMOGs, we'll just have to wait and see. I have my hopes up for sure on both of these titles. GW2 to me sounds the most interesting based on their design manifesto.

To the above, next time just post a link to the official Flickr page (http://www.flickr.com/photos/arenanet/4558240121/) instead of breaking the page with an oversized image.

And now for image analysis: judging from the higest resolution, thats the DX9 version with aniostropic filtering turned off.  So for the full game, I would expect better graphics with the DX10 and with better options turned on.

Its really good, IMO, to see that the Air ele is getting more respect this time around whereas in GW1 you were laughted at if you tried to PvE with one (Hard mode kinda evened this out though).

Also, its probably good to note that the other character in the screen is dual wielding; looks to be a short-sword held reverse grip in his left hand, and some kind of mace in his right hand.  That would be an exciting prospect if true; not only might we get the otpion to dual wield, but might we also get the option to choose a combat style/grip?

Nope, to me he looks like a sin/thief with natural dual wielding daggers that look like swords although there definitely is dual wielding. If you didn't read it in the blog you can definitely see it repeatedly in the 4 art videos that have been put out.

    This is not a game.

this is the most exctiting mmo news ive read all year

i love how players can just play together and help each other without being formally grouped

    and without penalty

so we can all finally just play together

    and enjoy one another

    and help one another

im also glad they dont have quest text npcs

we can just see the situation with our own eyes and react to it

that seems like a more ergonomic method

Guild Wars 2 is my religion

A-Net seems to be announcing classes via facebook. They have a messy image uploaded that they're gradually 'cleaning up' to reveal the classes.

Elementalist was fully uncovered today and there are 7 more silhouettes remaining to uncover... so that's eight confirmed classes at least. :)

EDIT: Here's a link to the current image - http://yfrog.com/j0img4unj

Well we can speculate that based upon the revelation of the elementalist class and the fact that Anet wouldn't just completely throw away their classes, we can assume that we'll see warriors, a sin type of class, mesmers, and a monk type of class.

And here I was thinking I would never get excited for an MMO again. Hot damn.

It's really getting hard to contain the hype. I want to, but I don't know anymore. It just sounds so promising!

  • Shan_ReaperShan_Reaper Member Posts: 20

That seems to be awesome! Can't wait to play beta. I only pray to be the same as they describe it. God bless AN!

  • illyanaillyana Member UncommonPosts: 614

i got a good feeling that they got those things Mike Obrien talked about nailed down in the actual game

the main reason why ANET hadnt release alot of GW2 info till now is that they want to be sure that they can deliver what they promise their fans before they talk about it

they're already playing GW2 in their office

i believe priority for Beta will be given to current GW1 owners ;)

This is why I have a lot of respect for the way Anet deliver their information, they give us the info when they know they can deliver.

It is exciting news and I'm looking forward to more. The emphasis on dynamic content gets me very excited and the social aspects just as much, they are hitting all the right buttons for me.
GW was my first online game, played it solidly for almost 4 years, I'm aware that your first game is the one that can cloud your judgement, as such I was ready to be disappointed by GW2, I am so relieved I'm not so far.

Looking forward to that in-depth look at combat and can't wait to see what other classes are going to be in the game, there's a lot of silhouettes there!

About the graphics - it looks a lot like GW1, it's the same engine so there should be no surprises there, even if they are just a slight improvement on the first game, everything that GW2 offers is easily enough to make me forgive any lack of GFX advancement.

I have wanted this game since they announced it! Sounds like they are really taking it in a good direction.

I have 1 concern, looking at the (very stylish) available trailers I notice that the character models look very much like those of Guild Wars which back then in 2005 was one of the best and certainly most beautiful. But not we have examples as character models and facial animations of AoC and Aion (among others) that set the bar.

So I'm hoping they will refine and polish char design, detail and animation some more before release, and not that they've reached the limit of what can be done with the engine they're using.

Hot damn that's just the info I needed to keep me interested

For me, GW still looks and sounds very good compared to many other MMO's but it's an instanced world. If they can deliver atleast the same quality using a persistant world i'll be happy. It all depends on how well it will be coded and optimized.

I'm also very excited with GW2 and it's hard to hold it ^_^

My first venture into the MMO genre was 7 years ago with EvE Online and i played it almost exclusively for 2 years or so, until i decided to take a break from the sci-fi genre and GW  just popped up and i was pretty much hooked from then on buying every episode that followed up. Although not considered a "true" MMO by many, i was addicted to it's immersive worlds and gameplay and it's great PvE and awesome PvP set my standard on quality gaming when it comes to searching for other MMORPG's.

But it has been vey hard to find other games that can match GW quality. Where most use unoriginal game settings lacking good art direction, repetitive and limited gameplay with little rewards and unbalanced/limited PvP makes it feel like a bad deja vu on a different name. Most games seem like a grindy rush to high lvl until you can start having fun and in between there are billions of monsters "entertaining" the player with promises of end game rewards which normally fall short on deliver.

I just hope more players start recognizing quality and demand better gaming rather than just accepting whatever is thrown at them thus raising the bar on the MMO genre - let's evolve :)

Yeah, because that attitude has worked so well for other MMOs, right?

Always release when it is DONE.*

*Done here means polished, stable, has the full feature set, and is relatively bug free.  Obviously more will be added later, but rushing a game out is ALWAYS a bad idea.

Amazing.. by this arcticle alone it will be the most exciting MMO in years or the biggest disaster if they don't live up to all this talk.  But GW was a lot of fun... I do have some faith in them.
