1: That the game won't have an "enouge" appealing story. This was a real killer in WoW. So a retarded farmer wants me to travel half the game world to deliver a stupid magic ring, because he cut his leg while chopping wood. WOW!!! That is so epic! OMFG amazing quest storyline, omg!1111! Enouge with the WoW bash, but how can anything in WoW be a quest when nothing changes in the world! Its more linear and straight forward than a Final Fantasy game for gods sake.
Even in mindless grind MMORPG people at least had the possibility to explore, progress and level where, when and how they wanted it too. In WoW people follow and invisible train and do quests here and there and there, and gets the same experiences/rewards/quests/stories/amount of xp/ - And in conclusion experiences everything in such similiar way that it could be compared to a normal single player game. Bah! So much for the golden aspect of MMORPG being "open ended"...
NOW enouge with the WoW bash. But will GW run into similiar problems?
I have to be honorst - The missions I have done(in the october event) was pretty crappy. I mean - Great cut scenes and map layout, but the stories and characters itself was not really.. "interesting". Im quite affraid about this, because while Guild Wars will without a doubt have a cool PvP system, a new IP/Licenes needs a cool world with memorable characters.
The enviorment and characters are beautiful. But I hope that Arenanet just wont forget to make a cool story.
Diablo had a dark and gloomy story with impressive CGI cut scenes, in an all raged war between heaven and hell. Since some of the guys where on the Diablo staff, I hope they will put their experience to good use.
But Arenanet is not a high profile company. I can not imgine NCsoft giving them fundings to make their own crazy quality beautiful opening trailers like WoW has.
At least its a positive thought that Guild Wars has been spared the syndrome of stupid Tolkien/Dungeons and Dragons/High fantasy rip offs. No elfs, no orcs and so on.
Hopefully it will open room for a more uniqe world.
2: Content. Im a PvP fan, mainly. Trust me I am! But seriously - I seriously think that even though PvP in GW rules, that im gonna go cold at some point.
Im scared that people wont go back and fight in the PvE structures when they have completed the games 25 missions! I seriously dont think that GW will have tons of rare and cool looking equipment, things to collect and so on.
We must remember that the game has no crafting and so on. Its pretty much limited to combat. And we wont have weekly content like other MMORPGs. That has been the cost of no fee! So people are pretty much stuck with what the game has until an expansion comes out 6-12 months later!
Diablo 2 still has a hugh chunk of players that still enjoys the game, and Diablo 2 have been out for so many years. Diablo 2 is a living proof that you dont need long crappy lvl grinds like WoW, EQ2 and so on to keep players hooked!
I just hope that items, wise their will be things that will take years to obtain. Of course not godly items that will imbalance PvP, but just cool looking, and trophy items.
But as a PvP game I think it sounds amazing.
The War of the Worlds concept is simply going to kill anything else if you ask me. Its genius to let the European community fight against the americans and Koreans, but we will probably get our butts kicked by the Koreans;)
I just like to do PvE once and a while.
otherwise I think it might have been a fuse.
Other online RPGs, like NWN just has godly Role playing nazi communities. No doubt their open ended module system also has kept players hooked.
But more simply slashers like Dungeon Siege simply died. I know DS has a little cool and hardcore community, but still. I think GW is meant for much bigger things.
And then you had Diablo 2 which is still being sold allot, in the year of 2005. 18 Million copies sold and still going strong with breaking all similiar competition! And that is amazing considering all that has happened to D2 through the years with hacks and so on!
There are so many thousands(probably more) of uniqe builds to try in GW, just like in D2, so there will probably be tons of template ideas upon release. The depth here is amazing.
But as far as hard and near impossible PvE content im affraid that GW might be lacking. I hope their will be special raid bosses in GW, or bosses that simply wont be able to be killed in years due to the required tactics and skill needed. Just like WoW, even though thats a bad example, considering that that games hardest boss has already been beaten by a group of korean gamers.
It seems crazy that GW is already comming out in April. I seriously dont think there will be enouge content to keep players interested.

1 things 4 sure, it will OVERKILL WoW, in gameplay, Graphs (TOTALY) and in quest/story-line, the quests are serious, not about a farmers leg

They are going to have a team dedicated to adding content on a regular basis. I know lots of games promise this and only a few deliver, so we will just have to see how well ArenaNet does.
There are 25 missions, but around 70 areas to explore. And I think they're adding lots of gear, so there will be a wide variety of stuff to find.
I'm also very curious to see what the high-end content looks like. We haven't seen any of it yet, so I'm pretty optimistic about it being very challenging for high level characters.

yes we might need a better story and more missions but there are quests in the main cities that offer rewards tho they are simple quest not the missions.
Being an Ac1 junkie destroyed by the community that destroyed that game..*cough decal, ucmers, etc* but i loved how unique Asheron's calls quest were we need some dynamic quest system like that. it could always be the atmosphere set by ac1 rather than gw dark apocolipitc place. i know for a fact the current gw quests are better than wow but they need improvements i can understand balance issues which quests upset but rather than farming til you get a good sword. i can see quest lacking content here tho as much as i love this game

i can't really foresee raids in this game... i would like it but how its set up and in some q's and a's people asked the devs if they could have more thna 8 people for a large epic pvp battle but they said it would be to mind boggling and those on lowerend systems would be left out since that much action would be hard on such a weak computer so they just did 8 so they wont favor high end system (damn i got this awesome pc power but the weak are always holding back the strong)
You And Me Both!
Im used to the free for all after playing Asheron's Call, I was in the PK world were everyone can attack anyone and anything and it was just intensley fun!
This rules is kinda makin me laugh at the whole "this game is PvP based" and it isnt even that great... in my eyes

i thought that the quested were alot more appealing then the quest in WoW. about gear i dont no if i just got lucky but all the rare stuff i found was during a quest/ dye, skill charms, skill rings.
Keep in mind that you guys have only seen a few of the many missions in guildwars. Jeff Strain(one of the head developers of GuildWars), recently announced that GuildWars will support voiceacting.
Expect a lot of cool changes and additions to the storyline. And it will have a lot of plots, side quests and more.
On a side note; WoW has been released for months, GuildWars is still in beta. Is it really fair to compare a complete game with a beta. You haven't even seen the complete world!

There are also lots of secondary/optional quests, which are often more challenging than the primaries.

the only hope is they improve with content drastically in the next month and half seing how this beta the team is concentrating on PvP for the march beta. I mean come on pvp is already good enough how are you going to improve that doesn't need nerfs or tweaks. i don't really want to see new pvp maps... maybe more styles of pvp like a gladiators tourny , 1vs1 (but i dunno about that one), or a full scale war something like that. im kinda baffled for this march beta how are they gonna improve on pvp...
Who ever says that they have a lot to improve on in the next month in a half obviously doesn't realize that what we are seeing in the betas isn't all of what they have right now. They are just giving us some of what they currently have developed.
I think there will be a lot of things left for us all to discover in this game, though only time will tell if it will be interesting enough to keep more than the hardcore fans around.
Who knows, though. Maybe we will all be surprised and will find a much larger and better designed world than the betas have even hinted at. So far, it is staying interesting enough to someone like me that does not like to rush through things, but likes to explore and see what all there is to see before moving on. After being in all of the last several betas, I have yet to make it even halfway through the world map, and even then, have not really explored all of it.
I, for one, really do hope this works out well enough to keep interest high, but if it doesn't, then I guess we will all have to go back to our standby's. AS I have never really been into online gaming much, that means sticking to single player offline games like BG and FF.
Oh well. We will all be finding out in the near future what A-net has top offer us in terms of gameplay and interesting stories.
sorry for post i dont see where to delete it
bored of GW !? IMPOSSIBLE !!!!!
