Who wants a fallout mmorpg???

The fallout series is the best for a post apocolyptic sci fi mmorpg. Bethesda got the rights to the single player game but the original company (acitvision?) still has the mmo rights!!! So there has to be a fallout mmo coming out, not soon but it will....Hopefully.

Maybe if the community makes a big deal they wll think about it more.

I mean think about. The way the game is made you dont choose a class. It's all  based on skills and you can make your own charecter. Cool name. Unique world based in the "former USA". It would be like the ultima online of sci fi mmorpgs but hopefully in 3d. I mean it would also kind of be like SWG as well (SWGs best parts anyway).

I'd say no. I was and still am not a fan of the Fallout games. I know there's a LARGE fan base for them, but I'm not one of them. But because I have an open mind about these things, I would give it a try. :)

Actually its funny theres only one guy working on the fallout MMO. I forgot his name but he has the rights to it. I saw a picture of him in my magazine in a superman outfit lol. Theres no way he can make an MMO all by himself.

I, for one, never cared much for the post-apocalyptic mileu. Give me Planescape: Torment any day.

is it just me or are people afraid of something different? Im not just talking about fallout... some people seem to think fantasy/sci fi has to be defined by a strict set of rules. Look at Saga of ryzom for example that IS sci fi. Why does sci fi always have to be defined by space ships, guns, etc etc, and why does fantasy always have to stick with a medevil theme and some people think that the only thing worthy of being called fantasy is if it has mages and LOTR races in it. I havent seen one fantasy/sci fi book or movie at all yet that hasnt tried to create their own ideas instead of basing them off of something else that has already been done. Anyone get where im coming from with this rant???

i understand what you mean but how else are they going to make sci fi mmorpgs. what are they going to base the theme on ... do you see what im trying to say?
with the fantasy thing there are games out there trying to define themselves as a different style of fantasy...
but generally alll mmorpgs are based on those two things

ya but look at whos being considered one of the better sci fi authors, Roger Zelazney(dont know if i spelled it right), where he was much more of a fantasy author, where i dont distinguise fantasy, from sci fi as much just cus one thing.

    Fiction=Fiction
Science Fiction= Fiction based on science.

so in my mind they are both one genre, or sci fi is a subtype of fiction. at least in books.

as far as Sci Fi MMORPG's i dont know why the hell all sci fi MMORPG's SEEM to happen in outer space, with ships. where there is so much more to the literature. in my mind this problem is because teh developers are BIG BIG TREKKIES. this is my view on the whole situation.

I would love MMO Fallout, considering that Fallout 2 is my favourite game :).

Although Fallout world is not actually Sci-Fi wolrd. It's more like a Cyber Punk.

Also, they made certain to note that Interplay retained the rights to develop a Fallout MMORPG...

Damnit it - Elder Scrolls 4 and Fallout 3 are games i'm really looking forward to. Bethesda have IMO kept the single player rpg alive through their efforts. Shame they don't have the rights to develop the Fallout MMO - would be interesting to see what they come up with.

Fallout was a great game and a great story but I never really liked the environment all that much, I also hate playing pointy-clicky games online (love them single player but don't like them online for some reason.) so if it was just a new version of the old Fallout style I wouldn't like it I don't think.

There are though a load of post-apoc MMOs in development and although they will not be able to be too similar to Fallout due to licensing issues it is inconceivable that they won't bare at least some similarity.

A fallout/gammaworld mmo would rock!!!! Especially if they did it EQ/WoW styleimage

No no no... Im not syaing keep the game 2d like the originals. Hell, Bethesda is going to make the new one with the engine they used for oblivion. This game WILL be 3d dont worry lol when i compared it to Uo I met the gameplay in itself I dont mean the Isometric look to it.

You know what though in a way it cant be called a sci fi...but what about "future Fiction" i dunno.

  • Dantes77Dantes77 Member Posts: 106
Oh yeh...i really dobt it would ever be like eq 2 or wow. The gameplay is similar to ultima series but it has its own system called S.P.E.C.I.A.L. There is no classes you just make your own by the set skills that are available IE Ultima... Cookie cutter classes will die out soon hopefully. One thing i would agree with though is that making game based just on picking skills like in UO is a bit harder for balancing the game but it is worth it because you can be whatever the hell you want and make up the name of your own classes.

Fallen Earth styles itself as a Fallout-esque MMO.

But a real, actual, genuine, kosher, official Fallout MMO?

I think it would rule if done right, but suck if done like most MMOs are done. And as far as I know, Interplay no longer exists. So who should be on the development team to make such a game? Maybe Steve Jackson Games can get in on the act, since the original Fallout games turned out to not be GURPS. SJG seems to be getting into online games now, and maybe they can get the license to Fallout from whoever currently possesses it.
