---SHOE: What the hell are you talking about. Look at Vanguard SoH, the release of that game left such a bad taste in people's mouths they left and never came back even though many of the problems that they originally complained about were fixed.
Frankly, I don't see the validity in the OPs point. Many people bought the game in summer 2009. It is now almost summer 2010, almost an entire year later. It's no wonder people are antsy for a patch, they want to get the game they paid for.
---Tazaterra (moderator): I see the point you are making, although I don't agree with it. Many people may feel cheated on the fact that they purchased the game almost a year before they will be able to play. However, if those very people had understood exactly what they were buying, and why, they wouldn't feel as cheated.

Pathetic that they want to blame us customers for being pissed of for paying a game almost a year ago and not seeing it released.
THEY marketed the game by implying that the game would be released last summer in their very first trailer.
THEY said that a limited number of copies would be released for launch thus implying that either one needs to pre-order it or chance not being able to get a copy for launch.
THEY are refusing pre-order refunds even though the game havent been released almost a full year after the marketed it to be.
And they have the nerve to blame us for being pissed since we didnt know what we are buying?
The more I listen the StarVault the more they disgust me.

They started preorders last summer. They didn't do so while stating that they were also launching last summer. To my recollection, they said they might start shipping game boxes in September (which they missed), but the stated intent at the time they started preorders was to launch in the 4th quarter of 2009 (not the summer of 2009).
Additionally, they were going to limit the number of preorders to get into the closed beta, not into launch. I think you might be thinking of another game (Xsyon is doing that, I believe).

Actually that is untrue. Mats stated that the only way to insure that you would be able to play the game on day one of launch was to pre-order. It's been quoted on these forums and linked multiple times from the official MO forums.

Yes it's your fault for buying a pre-order to a game made by a small independant studio and expecting them to meet a fairly vague release date. Heck none of the big studios can meet their first guestimate on launch date why would you think a smaller dev team with a fairly ambitious project be able to?
But they said if I didn't pre order I wouldn't get to play on day one.
Sure that may be true but patience grasshopper WOW didn't get good till at least 12 months after launch. Nothing released after got good till at least 12 months after and most take longer than that. Heck most stuff that was pre WOW was buggy crash happy piles of crud that only seriously patient people could bother to put up with for years. So who cares if you miss launch day when they open it up for more people to be able to play after they eventually launch you'll get a smoother starting experiance than those who started at day one.
I guess what I'm saying is this. If evan the big boys can't release an MMO project on time, on budget and relativly bug free it's incredibly naive to think that a small studio with as I said before a pretty ambitious project and not much if any previous MMO experiance to be able to. Secondly (while it is your money and not mine) you took a risk and a fairly big one betting on the little guy 12 months down the road you have nothing much to show for it. Now the support of the little guy is applaudable, complaining about not getting what you naivly thought you should have when all previous examples should of at least shown you what you were getting into isn't. On a positive note at least it's only $50 your out of pocket for now and not the couple hundred dollars lifetime subbers of STO got relieved of.
The lesser of two evils is still evil.
There is nothing more dangerous than a true believer.
Pathetic that they want to blame us customers for being pissed of for paying a game almost a year ago and not seeing it released. I don't see them (I presume you mean Starvault) blaming anyone.
THEY marketed the game by implying that the game would be released last summer in their very first trailer. By the time they made preorders available, they had already made it clear that they wereshooting for a Q4 2009 release
THEY said that a limited number of copies would be released for launch thus implying that either one needs to pre-order it or chance not being able to get a copy for launch. I'll address that shortly
THEY are refusing pre-order refunds even though the game havent been released almost a full year after the marketed it to be. 4 1/2 months != 1 year
And they have the nerve to blame us for being pissed since we didnt know what we are buying?
The more I listen the StarVault the more they disgust me. Then don't listen to them (unless you like getting disgusted)
I enjoy reading about people making a HUGE stink over a small indie company trying their best to get a quality product out when StarTrek Online: The Slaughtering of My Childhood is allowed to EVER BE PRODUCED.
What's wrong with you people >:(, stop blaming Starvault for things they CLEARLY stated before you EVER touched that pre-order button. You KNEW it was going to be awhile, and that you probably wouldn't see the game for a bit being a small indie company (they even forwarned about this saying "it'll launch when it's ready").

I did not know that they would release well into 2010. In their first trailer it said: Summer 2009. Then when pre-ordered started they said septembre, then decembre, then Q1 2010 and now it is Q2 2010.
I did not know they would take my money, and 8 months later, refuse any refunds. Any respectable company would allow a refund after such a delay yet Starvault are stonewalling any such request.
I did not know that the game would be in such a dreadful state, one which cannot be anything more than early beta at this point. I assumed that with a scheduled release date of septembre 2009 it would be in decent state, it was not.
In any case Starvault should not expect to release any other games after MO because they have alienated a good proportion of their potential playerbase and by you guys blaming (and the mod as quoted in the OPs post) us for it, changes nothing.
The word of mouth has spread and it is saying quite clearly that MO is a game to avoid. A couple of die-hard fans here and there wont change that. You guys may not care but if you look at the MMORPG genre and the lack of decent sandbox games out there this game is not going to change that. If anything it will just show to potential devs that sandbox games arent very successful, which is wrong, it is indy-produced sandbox games that arent successful.
They NEVER planned on releasing in September. Here is a quote from Mats in June (before preorders were made available). We are not planning a release in September. We are planning to release the game in Q4. That's Oct-Nov-Dec. http://www.mortalonline.com/forums/299414-post146.html
The Moderator is not blaming anyone, he is warning people not to flame the OP.

However, if those very people had understood exactly what they were buying, and why, they wouldn't feel as cheated.
That sounds to me that they are blaming their customers for feeling cheated since they obviously did not understand what they were buying.
Also I distinctly remember a post saying that they expect to release in September/Q3. But really, does it matter? We are in Q2 2010 now and they had already announced a release date, which was withdrawn, due to "sync-issues".
If that is ok for you, then fine, it is not for alot of others who are abandoning the game in drows.
IIRC, beta was suppose to start in Sept., and release was suppose to be December. I was going to pre-order, but I saw that they wanted the full price. To most people that screams "SCAM!!". The game as it stands today, 8 months after "beta" released is still clearly in alpha stage.
To the poster comparing this to STO. Are you serious? One game is at least playable(enjoyable is another arguement) the other one is a hot mess. Also, in my consumer eyes it makes no difference if its EA or Starvault. I pay for something I want it. I'm not investing. I'm buying a product. I could care less if they are an indie studio or work under a big publisher.
Another reason, btw, I didn't "buy" the pre-order. It was clearly an investment, but I wasn't getting any return. Only the "promise" of a product to play at some point. Why invest, but get no monetary return? You think Starvault's investors aren't going to get some return if the game makes money?
You guys really buy this stuff, it's hilarious. You also buy that argument of "Oh, we have to tell our investors first before we tell the community!" That's a bunch of BS for most things they announce. Release dates I can understand, but making a comment on whether or not the auto-subscribe being turned on is unethical? LOL
Anyway, to the point -- SV announced they would release in Summer of 2009 on their own website. You can search through the old press releases. That date got moved several times before being Q4, and again -- was on their website. The original press release is still out there with the Summer 2009 release date, but the unofficial simple announcements they made on the forums and IRC are LONG GONE. Ninja edited, just as the rest of their website has been for some time.
As Yamota said -- you can try to change the path MO is on, but you won't be able to. It's headed for the toilet. This isn't something I need to speculate about, or even charge SV with incompetence. All you need to do is look at the last 8 months of their development and look at what has actually changed. The game has gotten LESS stable over time (because they kept adding features without testing), the game has gotten worse to play, and the only real visible improvement has been crafting. Nobody is going to stick around for crafting. And now if they run over to Epic Games they think they are going to fix a systemic issue like desync with a few weeks worth of work? Give me a break.
I know they like to tout that "Epic has a vested interest" but no, they don't. They have other folks using ATLAS and it's working. Look at Global Agenda. Look at APB (I am playing the beta, runs great). There are others in the pipe. Do you think they need some niche company to show that ATLAS works? No, they don't. And the problems in the game go beyond ATLAS, so if anybody came to Epic and said "well look at MO, it shows ATLAS doesn't work", all they have to say is "Have you tried playing the REST of the game?"
I rarely stop in here any more, only to see a few new posts on occasion -- heck, the MO forums are even more dead than here. The game is dead. It burnt all its good will with folks and now it's on to the burial grounds with the likes of Dark and Light and Mourning. And the train wreck is one we have seen coming for 8 months.
IIRC, beta was suppose to start in Sept., and release was suppose to be December. I was going to pre-order, but I saw that they wanted the full price. To most people that screams "SCAM!!".
most gaming companies do this these days. Bad Company 2 preorder was the same, you had to pay the full price upfront. Its normal now.

Well I do blame you (not you as in you, but those who pre-ordered), and it wasn't exactly as you put it either. They stated up front when they started up their pre-orders, that they weren't really pre-orders at all. These were investments the company was trying to secure, as no one else would give them a dime.
Yet people still paid, those who are happy, good for them... but, those who are sour? After things like Age of Mourning and D&L taking place? Come on now...
As for the topic, who can blame them, it's the norm in the business today. Everyone else gets away with it, why shouldn't they?

Why would they "ninja edit" references to a planned summer 2009 release, when the information is generally available? Or are you just making baseless accusations?
If they are really trying to ninja-edit this they did a very poor job:
I'd have to say I think the accusation of ninja editing is no more valid than the accusation that they delete all negative posts. whats so bad about mortal online content? why can't it be the best game in its small pvp market where only xyson, darkfall and mortal online reside in?
Because everything is broken, lags out / desync issues and is either a place-holder or disabled.
desync is fixed, do you have any proof to claim that it is around?, im sure desync was a ploblem of the past due to lose of packets and im sure everything is not broken and well i played the game i have not lagged out? maybe its just your connection? have you ever thought of upgrading your internet? maybe you need a faster connection to be able to play in a twitch based mmo? and i swear only 3 features now are disabled? guilds, theivey and 1 more feature i can't think of the top of my head.
